Abstract

The present disclosure provides a method of controlling an appliance comprising: profiling at least one appliance including one or more power consuming functions connected with a home energy management system (HEM); defining an energy event corresponding to each of the one or more power consuming functions; developing a home energy profile in the HEM of all the energy events including a calendar of energy events; manipulating the home energy profile by a user wherein the user cancels, delays, reschedules, or enables processing of the calendar of energy events; and, communicating through a translator board wireless communication between the HEM and the at least one appliance.

Claims

1. A home energy management system comprising:

at least one appliance including one or more power consuming functions connected with the home energy management system (HEM) including an associated utility derived energy signal;

the HEM including all the energy events;

each energy event including at least a duration of event; and

,

the energy profile including a calendar of energy events wherein the calendar of energy events is controllable by a user through the HEM.

2. The home energy management system according to claim 1, wherein the user controls are selected from the group consisting of cancel, delay, reschedule, and enable processing of the calendar of energy events.

3. The home energy management system according to claim 1, further comprising:

a translator board for wireless communication between the HEM and the at least one appliance.

4. The home energy management system according to claim 3, wherein the translator board includes duplex serial capability.

5. The home energy management system according to claim 1, wherein each energy event includes information selected from the group consisting of event ID, date of event, time of event, duration of event, functional data of event, energy consumption of event, and event name.

6. The home energy management system according to claim 1, wherein the appliance includes a default control which enables functions in full operational mode in the event the communication between the HEM and appliance is compromised.

7. The home energy management system according to claim 1, further comprising:

a signal from an associated utility to the HEM, wherein the HEM includes a controller in signal communication with the associated utility; and

, the controller receiving and processing the signal from the associated utility.

8. A method of managing energy comprising:

profiling at least one appliance including one or more power consuming functions connected with a home energy management system (HEM);

defining an energy event corresponding to each of the one or more power consuming functions;

developing a home energy profile in the HEM of all the energy events including a calendar of energy events; and

,

manipulating the home energy profile by a user.

9. The method of managing energy according to claim 8, wherein the user cancels, delays, reschedules, or enables processing of the calendar of energy events.

10. The method of managing energy according to claim 8, further comprising:

a translator board for wireless communication between the HEM and the at least one appliance.

11. The method of managing energy according to claim 8, wherein the translator board includes duplex serial capability.

12. The method of managing energy according to claim 8, wherein each energy event includes information selected from the group consisting of event ID, date of event, time of event, duration of event, functional data of event, energy consumption of event, and event name.

13. The method of managing energy according to claim 8, wherein the appliance includes a default control which functions in full operational mode in the event the communication between the HEM and appliance is compromised.

14. The method of managing energy according to claim 8, further comprising:

a signal from an associated utility to the HEM, wherein the HEM includes a controller in signal communication with the associated utility; and

,

the controller receiving and processing the signal from the associated utility.

15. A method of controlling an appliance comprising:

profiling at least one appliance including one or more power consuming functions connected with a home energy management system (HEM);

defining an energy event corresponding to each of the one or more power consuming functions;

developing a home energy profile in the HEM of all the energy events including a calendar of energy events;

manipulating the home energy profile by a user wherein the user cancels, delays, reschedules, or enables processing of the calendar of energy events; and

,

communicating through a translator board wireless communication between the HEM and the at least one appliance.

16. The method of controlling an appliance according to claim 15, wherein the translator board includes duplex serial capability.

17. The method of controlling an appliance according to claim 15, wherein each energy event includes information selected from the group consisting of event ID, date of event, time of event, duration of event, functional data of event, energy consumption of event, and event name.

18. The method of controlling an appliance according to claim 15, wherein the appliance includes a default control which functions in full operational mode in the event the communication between the HEM and appliance is compromised.

19. The method of controlling an appliance according to claim 15, further comprising:

a signal from an associated utility to the HEM, wherein the HEM includes a controller in signal communication with the associated utility; and

,

the controller receiving and processing the signal from the associated utility.
