Abstract

Methods, systems, and products acknowledge a reminder in a calendaring application. When an acknowledgement of the reminder is received, a message is communicated to similarly acknowledge a pending reminder in another instance of the calendaring application.

Claims

1. A method of acknowledging a reminder in a calendaring application, comprising:

storing a calendar entry corresponding to an event and the reminder of the event;

displaying a global configuration option in a first graphical user interface that determines whether remote acknowledgement is globally permissible for all instances of the calendaring application operating in different devices;

enabling messaging when a user'"'"'s first response to the global configuration option permits remote acknowledgement;

disabling the messaging when the user'"'"'s first response to the global configuration option denies remote acknowledgement;

presenting an alert of the reminder;

receiving an acknowledgement of the reminder; and

communicating a message to acknowledge a pending reminder that corresponds to the event in another instance of the calendaring application operating in another device when remote acknowledgement is permitted.

2. The method according to claim 1, further comprising displaying a device-level configuration option in a second graphical user interface that determines whether each individual instance of the calendaring application participates in the remote acknowledgement of the reminder.

3. The method according to claim 2, further comprising receiving a selection of the device-level configuration option that permits the remote acknowledgement of an instance of the calendaring application.

4. The method according to claim 2, further comprising denying participation in the remote acknowledgement when the device-level configuration option is not selected.

5. The method according to claim 2, further comprising sending the message according to the global configuration option when the device-level configuration option is unspecified.

6. The method according to claim 1, further comprising periodically polling the another instance of the calendaring application to acknowledge the reminder.

7. The method according to claim 1, further comprising displaying reminder-level configuration option in another graphical user interface that permits the reminder to be remotely acknowledged.

8. A system, comprising:

a processor executing calendaring application stored in memory that causes the processor to;

store a calendar entry corresponding to an event and the reminder of the event;

display a global configuration option in a first graphical user interface that determines whether remote acknowledgement is globally permissible for all instances of the calendaring application operating in different devices;

enable messaging when a user'"'"'s first response to the global configuration option permits remote acknowledgement;

disable the messaging when the user'"'"'s first response to the global configuration option denies remote acknowledgement;

present an alert of the reminder;

receive an acknowledgement of the reminder; and

communicate a message to acknowledge a pending reminder that corresponds to the event in another instance of the calendaring application operating in another device when remote acknowledgement is permitted.

The system according to claim 8, wherein the code further causes the processor to display a device-level configuration option in a second graphical user interface that determines whether each individual instance of the calendaring application participates in the remote acknowledgement of the reminder.

10. The system according to claim 9, wherein the code further causes the processor to receive a selection of the device-level configuration option that permits the remote acknowledgement of an instance of the calendaring application.

11. The system according to claim 9, wherein the code further causes the processor to deny participation in the remote acknowledgement when the device-level configuration option is not selected.

12. The system according to claim 9, wherein the code further causes the processor to send the message according to the global configuration option when the device-level configuration option is unspecified.

13. The system according to claim 8, wherein the code further causes the processor to periodically poll the another instance of the calendaring application to acknowledge the reminder.

14. The system according to claim 8, wherein the code further causes the processor to display reminder-level configuration option in another graphical user interface that permits the reminder to be remotely acknowledged.

15. A computer readable storage medium storing processor executable instructions for performing a method, the method comprising:

storing a calendar entry corresponding to an event and the reminder of the event;

displaying a global configuration option in a first graphical user interface that determines whether remote acknowledgement is globally permissible for all instances of the calendaring application operating in different devices;

enabling messaging when a user'"'"'s first response to the global configuration option permits remote acknowledgement;

disabling the messaging when the user'"'"'s first response to the global configuration option denies remote acknowledgement;

presenting an alert of the reminder;

receiving an acknowledgement of the reminder; and

communicating a message to acknowledge a pending reminder that corresponds to the event in another instance of the calendaring application operating in another device when remote acknowledgement is permitted.

The computer program product according to claim 15, further comprising instructions for displaying a device-level configuration option in a second graphical user interface that determines whether each individual instance of the calendaring application participates in the remote acknowledgement of the reminder.

17. The computer program product according to claim 16, further comprising instructions for receiving a selection of the device-level configuration option that permits the remote acknowledgement of an instance of the calendaring application.

18. The computer program product according to claim 16, further comprising instructions for denying participation in the remote acknowledgement when the device-level configuration option is not selected.

19. The computer program product according to claim 16, further comprising instructions for sending the message according to the global configuration option when the device-level configuration option is unspecified.

20. The computer program product according to claim 15, further comprising instructions for periodically polling the another instance of the calendaring application to acknowledge the reminder.
