1. An optical system, comprising:

  • a super node and a remote node, each optically coupled to at least one single-mode optical fiber;

    the super node comprising a first subsystem and a second subsystem;

    the first subsystem configured to be capable of performing at least one function, selected from the group consisting of;

    (a) transmitting optical signals, (b) transmitting wavelength on-Demand, (c) delivering bandwidth on-Demand and (d) delivering service on-Demand, selected from one or more wavelengths of a first set of wavelengths; and

    the second subsystem configured to be capable of performing at least one function, selected from the group consisting of;

    (a) receiving optical signals, (b) receiving bursty optical signals, (c) receiving wavelength on-Demand and (d) receiving bandwidth on-Demand, selected from one or more wavelengths of a second set of wavelengths, which are offset in wavelengths with respect to the first set of wavelengths;

    the remote node comprising a subscriber subsystem, wherein the subscriber subsystem is configured to be capable of performing;

    at least one function, selected from the group consisting of;

    (a) receiving optical signals, (b) receiving wavelength on-Demand, (c) receiving bandwidth on-Demand and (d) receiving service on-Demand, selected from one or more wavelengths of a first set of wavelengths;

    at least one function, selected from the group consisting of (a) transmitting optical signals, (b) transmitting bursty optical signals, (c) transmitting wavelength on-Demand and (d) delivering bandwidth on-Demand, selected from one or more wavelengths of a second set of wavelengths, which are offset in wavelengths with respect to the first set of wavelengths; and

    at least one function, selected from the group consisting of;

    (a) optical wavelength processing, (b) optical wavelength reflection and (c) optical wavelength generation, selected from one or more wavelengths of a second set of wavelengths, which are offset in wavelengths with respect to the first set of wavelengths.
