Abstract

Embodiments include an apparatus responsive to an event detected at a glucose monitoring device. The apparatus includes circuitry to select an action to occur remote to the glucose monitoring device in response to the event. Embodiments include a response center responsive to an event at a glucose monitoring device to contact a person in response to the event.

Claims

1. A method, comprising responding to an event detected at a glucose monitoring device by selecting a first action to occur remote from the glucose monitoring device in response to the event.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the first remote action includes communicating information via a communication network to a network server.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the remote action is selected at an apparatus that receives information from the network server and is responsive to the detected event.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the information received from the network server is displayed at a webpage presented at a computer.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein functionality for presenting the webpage resides, at least in part, at the apparatus.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising selecting a second action to occur remote from the glucose monitoring device when a person has not responded to the first remote action by passing a first cognitive reasoning skills test within a first specified period of time.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the first remote action includes activating a strong vibrator and the second remote action includes communicating information to a communication network.

8. A method, comprising:

receiving information at a location via a communication network from a unit responsive to an event detected at a glucose monitoring device that is remote from the location; and

initiating a contact with at least one person in response to the event.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the at least one person is specified by a user of the glucose monitoring device.

10. An apparatus responsive to an event detected at a glucose monitoring device, the apparatus comprising circuitry to select an action to occur remote to the glucose monitoring device in response to the event.

11. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the apparatus is adapted to receive a signal indicative of the event via an accelerometer at the glucose monitoring device.

12. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the apparatus is adapted to receive a signal indicative of the event via a sound detector at the glucose monitoring device.

13. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the apparatus is internal to the glucose monitoring device.

14. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the apparatus is internal to a mobile telephone.

15. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the apparatus is internal to a computer.

16. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the apparatus is adapted to receive data internal to the glucose monitoring device.

17. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the glucose monitoring device includes an insulin delivery device.

18. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the circuitry is to select one or more actions to occur remote to the glucose monitoring device in a specific order until a user at the apparatus demonstrates a cognitive ability to respond to the event.

19. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the specific order is pre-selectable by a user of the alarm unit.

20. An response center, comprising:

a memory to store computer instructions and data;

a processor to execute the computer instructions to communicate with a person in response to an event at a glucose monitoring device that is at a location that is remote to the response center,

21. The response center of claim 20, wherein the processor communicates with the person via at least one of a telephone call, a text message, an email, a page, and an instant message.

22. A machine-readable medium embodying machine-readable instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to select an action to occur remote to a glucose monitoring device in response to an event detected at the glucose monitoring device.
