Abstract

A therapeutic or diagnostic device is provided. The device includes a device body which is positionable within a lumen or passageway within a body and a tether which is attachable at a first end to the device body and at a second end to a tissue region not anatomically associated with the lumen or passageway.

Claims

1. A therapeutic or diagnostic device comprising a device body being positionable within a lumen or passageway within a body and a tether being attachable at a first end to said device body and at a second end to a tissue region not anatomically associated with said lumen or passageway.

2. The device of claim 1, wherein said device body is positionable within a GI tract of said body and said tissue is disposed outside of said GI tract.

3. The device of claim 1, wherein said tether is an elastic tether.

4. The device of claim 1, wherein said device body is designed for mechanically interacting with or electrically stimulating GI tissue.

5. The device of claim 1, wherein said tissue disposed outside said lumen or passageway is oropharyngeal or nasopharyngeal tissue.

6. The device of claim 1, wherein said tissue disposed outside said lumen or passageway is the nasal septum.

7. A therapeutic or diagnostic device comprising a device body being positionable within the GI tract of a body and a tether being attachable at a first end to said device body and at a second end to the cricoids cartilage region.

8. The device of claim 7, wherein at a least a portion of said tether is a hollow tether.

9. The device of claim 7, wherein at a least a portion of said tether is electroconductive.

10. The device of claim 7, wherein a cross section of said tether varies over a length thereof.

11. The device of claim 7, wherein said tether is a silicone tether.

12. The device of claim 7, wherein at a least a portion of said tether is fabricated from a material having a Shore A value less than 100.

13. The device of claim 8, wherein a second end of said tether includes a fluid filling port.

14. The device of claim 7, wherein said device body is designed for delivery of a fluid into said lumen or passageway.

15. The device of claim 7, wherein said tether includes radiopaque markings.

16. The device of claim 7, wherein said device body is capable of assuming a collapsed or an expanded state.

17. The device of claim 16, wherein said collapsed state enables nasal delivery of said device body.

18. The device of claim 16, wherein said device body is a balloon or other space occupying object.

19. The device of claim 7, wherein the device includes a mechanism for adjusting said tether length.

20. The device of claim 7, wherein said device body is designed for collecting tissue or fluid from said lumen or passageway.
