WIRELESS VOIP NETWORK FOR SECURITY SYSTEM MONITORING
First Claim
1. A method for monitoring over the Internet an existing alarm system having an analog telephone interface for outputting alarm signals, said method comprising the steps of:
- connecting the analog telephone interface from the existing alarm system to a dedicated Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) module connected to the Internet through a built-in wireless network connection connecting the VoIP module to an Internet interface, establishing a continuous VoIP connection from the dedicated VoIP module to an alarm monitoring server connected to the Internet through a digital Internet interface, monitoring the existing alarm system at the alarm-monitoring server connected to the Internet through a digital internet interface, andindicating at the alarm monitoring server, when the continuous VoIP connection between the alarm-monitoring server and the existing alarm system is broken.

Abstract
A Voice over IP (VoIP) module is used to connect an alarm system to a monitoring station over the Internet. A built-in wireless or Ethernet over A/C power component is described, such that the Voice-over-IP equipment can be placed at a distance from a router, without the need to run an Ethernet cable from the VoIP equipment to the router. This arrangement is useful, as in many cases, the customer'"'"'s security system is hidden within a closet, or else placed within the home or business at a significant distance from their Internet connection and router. The present invention accomplishes this by adding a built-in WiFi (wireless) radio, or a built-in Ethernet over Power circuit, into the Voice-over-IP equipment installed in the home or business.
