Abstract

A method and apparatus for secure access to data, to application and to systems and for providing an alarm to users upon detecting that a monitored device is not within a desired proximity using a multi-function BLUETOOTH apparatus are described. The multi-function BLUETOOTH apparatus can also provide voice and location functionality.

Claims

1. A unitary apparatus, comprising:

a single transceiver selected from the set comprising a BLUETOOTH or Wibree transceiver,

a power input;

wherein said single transceiver can pair with a second apparatus in a first range,

wherein on event selected from the set comprising;

user activates said unitary apparatus,

a message is received wirelessly from said second apparatus,

said single transceiver establishes a secure two-way wireless connection with said second apparatus,

wherein upon said single transceiver detecting a connection drop from said second apparatus to which said single transceiver has formed a pair,

said single transceiver periodically attempts to reconnect to said second apparatus.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising:

a logo,

said logo illuminates periodically.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein:

said apparatus fits into a space having a volume selected from the group consisting of;

less than 25 cubic centimeters,

less than 22.5 cubic centimeters,

less than 18 cubic centimeters,

less than 10 cubic centimeters,

and wherein said apparatus has a weight selected from the group consisting of;

less than about 50 grams,

less than about 10 grams,

and wherein said apparatus has power consumption selected from the group consisting of;

less than 200 mA,

less than 100 mA,

less than 40 mA.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, comprising:

an alarm;

wherein said alarm is audible and when activated produces an alarm signal of at least 60 decibels at 10 cm,

wherein said alarm is activated within a predetermined time after a connection drop between said single transceiver and said second apparatus to which said single transceiver has formed a pair.

5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein:

said apparatus is capable of connecting simultaneously to a Bluetooth headset device and to a portable electronic device, and to transfer voice streams between said Bluetooth headset device and said portable electronic device when said headset is active.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 comprising:

an earpiece and a microphone.

7. The apparatus of claim 6 comprising:

a bearing whereby;

said earpiece can rotate around said bearing.

8. The apparatus of claim 7 wherein:

when folded, said apparatus automatically operates as a Bluetooth headset.

9. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising:

a key selected from the set comprising;

a metal key,

a digital key whereby;

on receipt of a wireless message from said second apparatus,

said digital key is wirelessly transmitted to said second apparatus.

10. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising:

a Flash memory, a USB Flash drive,

an MP3/MP4 player, a recording apparatus,

a metal key, a home key, a car key,

a bio sensor, a comb, a flash light, a lighter, a Swiss knife.

11. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:

a second Bluetooth transceiver wherein;

voice input channels of said single transceiver are connected to voice output channels of said second Bluetooth transceiver and voice output channels of said single transceiver are connected to the voice input channels of said second Bluetooth transceiver.

12. A method for wirelessly monitoring a personal electronic device using a unitary apparatus comprising a single transceiver, comprising:

pairing said unitary apparatus with said personal electronic device in a first range,

said single transceiver onboard said unitary apparatus is selected

from the set comprising a BLUETOOTH and a Wibree transceiver, establishing a secure two-way wireless connection with said personal electronic device,

upon said unitary apparatus detecting a connection drop from said personal electronic device to which said unitary apparatus has formed a pair,

said unitary apparatus periodically attempts to reconnect to said personal electronic device.

13. The method of claim 12, comprising:

upon detecting a connection drop for said secure two-way wireless connection,

producing an alarm signal of at least 60 decibels at 10 cm within a predetermined time after said connection drop.

14. The method of claim 13 whereby:

on user indication selected from the set comprised of;

single button press, multiple button press, switch activation,

voice command, sound command, shaking an apparatus,

removing cover from apparatus, folding an apparatus;

said unitary apparatus ceases reconnect attempts and ceases producing alarm signals for a predetermined time,

and after said predetermined time has elapsed,

said unitary apparatus automatically attempts to reconnect to said personal electronic device.

15. The method of claim 14 whereby:

following pairing with a portable electronic device,

said unitary apparatus automatically wirelessly transmits a file to said portable electronic device.

16. The method of claim 12 whereby:

said unitary apparatus functions as a Bluetooth headset.

17. The method of claim 16 whereby:

on folding an earpiece, said unitary apparatus switches to headset function.

18. The method of claim 12 comprising:

further establishing a wireless connection with a headset and relaying voice streams between said headset and said portable electronic device when said headset is active.

19. The method of claim 12 whereby:

said unitary apparatus stores a digital key, selected from the set comprising;

digital key, public key, private key, encrypted key, password;

and on receipt of a request from said paired personal electronic device,

said unitary apparatus automatically transmits said digital key wirelessly to said paired personal electronic device.

23. The method of claim 12 whereby:

on detection of events selected from the set comprised of;

vehicle is parked, engine is turned off, door is opened,

said personal electronic system automatically

obtains position information from a GPS system onboard said vehicle,

transmits said position information to said unitary apparatus,

on receipt of said position information, said unitary apparatus automatically stores said GPS coordinates.

24. The method of claim 23 whereby:

upon a portable locator apparatus receiving a user request for locating said vehicle,

obtaining first position information from said unitary apparatus,

obtaining second position information for said portable locator from a GPS system onboard said portable locator apparatus,

obtaining the bearing information of said portable locator,

comparing said second position information and bearing with said first position information,

and determining bearing and distance to said first position location with respect to said second position location.

20. A method for authorizing user access comprising:

pairing with a unitary apparatus containing a single transceiver in a first range,

said single transceiver is selected from the set comprising a BLUETOOTH and a Wibree transceiver,

on user performing actions selected from the set comprising;

activate a personal electronic device,

launch an application onboard a personal electronic device,

push a button onboard a personal electronic device,

activate a switch onboard a personal electronic device,

touch a screen onboard a personal electronic device,

open a file onboard a personal electronic device,

access data onboard a personal electronic device,

pull a door handle, push an engine start button,

push a safety lock, push a trigger, pull a trigger,

wirelessly authenticating said unitary apparatus,

whereby said wireless authentication comprises;

establishing a secure two-way wireless connection between

a personal electronic device and said unitary apparatus,

paging said unitary apparatus and receiving a response,

performing a Bluetooth inquiry and verifying said unitary apparatus responds,

verifying said unitary apparatus is within vicinity,

requesting a digital key from said unitary apparatus and verifying said digital key is valid,

requesting a digital key from said unitary apparatus and verifying said digital key matches a private key,

on successful authentication,

performing actions selected from the set comprising;

enable user access, decrypt file, launch application,

unlock phone, unlock screen, unlock file, unlock door,

activate a mechanical apparatus,

unlock a mechanical apparatus,

trigger a mechanical apparatus,

start engine, activate a relay.

21. The method of claim 20 whereby:

on detection of a connection drop,

said personal electronic system automatically performs actions selected from the group comprising;

disable user access, lock phone, lock screen, lock file,

lock door, encrypt file, close application,

deactivate a mechanical apparatus,

lock a mechanical apparatus,

activate a relay, power off.

22. The method of claim 20 whereby:

said personal electronic device automatically relocks after a period of time.
