Abstract

A method and apparatus are provided that allow a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) to search and add one or more closed subscriber group (CSG) identities (IDs) in the WTRU white list while in connected mode. Such method and apparatus include but are not limited to WTRU autonomous search or a manual search, WTRU initiated procedures, or network initiated procedures. Additionally, methods that allow the network and/or the non-access stratum (NAS) to add CSG IDs are also described.

Claims

1. A method implemented in a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), the method comprising:

detecting a trigger for starting an autonomous closed subscriber group (CSG) cell search for neighboring CSG cells;

sending a message to a network indicating that the autonomous CSG cell search in connected mode has began;

receiving a message from the network indicating a request for detecting, measuring, and reporting the neighboring CSG cells; and

detecting and measuring the neighboring CSG cells.

2. The method as in claim 1, further comprising:

sending a message to the network indicating primary scrambling code (PSC) and measurement of the neighboring CSG cells; and

autonomously begin reading system information (SI) of a best cell detected.

3. The method as in claim 2, further comprising:

sending a non-access stratum (NAS) message to request a network to become a member of a new CSG cell identity (ID).

4. The method as in claim 3, further comprising:

on a condition that the WTRU receives an acceptance for becoming a member of the new CSG cell ID, performing a handover to the new CSG cell ID.

5. The method as in claim 4, further comprising:

adding the new CSG cell ID to a white list.

6. The method as in claim 3, further comprising:

on a condition that the WTRU receives a rejection for becoming a member of the new CSG cell ID, using a new reject cause to indicate the rejection.

7. A method implemented in a mobility management entity (MME), the method comprising:

determining a status of a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) relative to a target closed subscriber group (CSG) cell;

determining whether the WTRU has transferred from a source home NodeB (HNB) to the target CSG cell; and

on a condition that the WTRU has transferred from a source HNB to the target CSG cell, updating the source HNB with a current identification of the target CSG cell.

8. The method as in claim 7 wherein on a condition that the WTRU has not transferred from the source HNB to the target CSG cell, initiating a second transfer of the WTRU from the source HNB to the target CSG cell.

9. The method as in claim 7 wherein the source HNB receives an indication of a failed first transfer of the WTRU from the source HNB to the target CSG cell.

10. The method as in claim 7 wherein the source HNB receives the current identification of the target CSG cell and updates the WTRU with the current identification of the target CSG cell.

11. The method as in claim 7 wherein the source HNB initiates a second transfer of the WTRU from the source HNB to the target CSG cell.

12. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), the WTRU comprising:

a processor configured to detect a trigger for starting an autonomous closed subscriber group (CSG) cell search for neighboring CSG cells;

a transmitter configured to send a message to a network indicating that the autonomous CSG cell search in connected mode has began;

a receiver configured to receive a message from the network indicating a request for detecting, measuring, and reporting the neighboring CSG cells; and

the processor configured to detect and measuring the neighboring CSG cells.

13. The WTRU as in claim 12, further comprising:

the transmitter configured to send a message to the network indicating primary scrambling code (PSC) and measurement of the neighboring CSG cells, and autonomously begin to read system information (SI) of a best cell detected.

14. The WTRU as in claim 13, further comprising:

the transmitter configured to send a non-access stratum (NAS) message to request a network to become a member of a new CSG cell identity (ID).

15. The WTRU as in claim 14, further comprising:

on a condition that the WTRU is configured to receive an acceptance for becoming a member of the new CSG cell ID, the processor is configured to perform a handover to the new CSG cell ID.

16. The WTRU as in claim 15, further comprising:

the processor is configured to add the new CSG cell ID to a white list.

17. The WTRU as in claim 14, further comprising:

on a condition that the WTRU is configured to receive a rejection for becoming a member of the new CSG cell ID, the processor is configured to use a new reject cause to indicate the rejection.

18. A mobility management entity (MME), the MME comprising:

a processor configured to determine a status of a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) relative to a target closed subscriber group (CSG) cell, determine whether the WTRU has transferred from a source home NodeB (HNB) to the target CSG cell, and on a condition that the WTRU has transferred from a source HNB to the target CSG cell, update the source HNB with a current identification of the target CSG cell.

19. The MME as in claim 18 wherein on a condition that the WTRU has not transferred from the source HNB to the target CSG cell, the processor is further configured to initiate a second transfer of the WTRU from the source HNB to the target CSG cell.

The MME as in claim 18 wherein the source HNB is configured to receive an indication of a failed first transfer of the WTRU from the source HNB to the target CSG cell, the source HNB is configured to receive the current identification of the target CSG cell and update the WTRU with the current identification of the target CSG cell, and the source HNB is configured to initiate a second transfer of the WTRU from the source HNB to the target CSG cell.
