Abstract

An optical scanner is configured to scan multiple print portions of a body part such as a finger. The optical scanner identifies a first one of the print portions in an area of an optical surface. An event such as launching an application is generated based on identifying the first print portion in the area of the optical surface. In addition, various events can be generated based on different combinations of print portions in different areas of the optical surface.

In a second embodiment, a property detector is configured to identify different properties of a sleeve in different areas of a surface. An event is generated based on the detection of a property of the sleeve in an area of the surface.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

a. getting a plurality of scanned print portions of a body part;

b. identifying a first one of the plurality of scanned print portions in a first area of an optical surface; and

c. generating a first event based on identifying the first one of the plurality of scanned print portions in the first area of the optical surface.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising the steps of scanning the body part to get the plurality of scanned print portions and associating the first scanned print portion with the first area and the first event.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising the steps of:

d. identifying a second one of the plurality of scanned print portions in the first area of the optical surface; and

e. generating a second event based on identifying the second one of the plurality of scanned print portions in the first area of the optical surface, wherein the second event is different from the first event.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the body part comprises a plurality of body parts, and further comprising the step of scanning the plurality of body parts to get the plurality of scanned print portions.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the body part comprises a plurality of body parts, the first one of the plurality of scanned print portions is from a first body part of the plurality of body parts, a second one of the plurality of scanned print portions is from a second body part of the plurality of body parts, and further comprising the steps of:

d. identifying the second one of the plurality of scanned print portions in the first area of the optical surface; and

e. generating a second event based on identifying the second one of the plurality of scanned print portions in the first area of the optical surface, wherein the second event is different from the first event.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the first one of the plurality of scanned print portions is from a first person and the second one of the plurality of scanned print portions is from a second person.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising the steps of:

d. identifying the first one of the plurality of scanned print portions in a second area of the optical surface; and

e. generating a second event based on identifying the first one of the plurality of scanned print portions in the second area of the optical surface, wherein the second event is different from the first event.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the event is one of the following:

generating a capital letter, generating a non-capital letter, generating a first language character, generating a second language character, generating a number, generating a tooltip, selecting a text, providing a menu, moving a cursor, generating a left click event, generating a right click event, and providing a help text.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the body part is a finger and the plurality of scanned print portions comprises at least two of the following:

a tip of the finger, a bottom of the finger, a right side of the finger, and a left side of the finger.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the optical surface is at least one of the following:

a touch screen, a computer screen, a mouse pad, a surface on a mouse, a surface on a joystick, a surface on a gaming controller, an LCD display, and a surface on a button.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the body part is one of the following:

an individual finger, a plurality of fingers, a thumb, a palm, and a toe.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the first one of scanned print portions in the first area of the optical surface comprises at least one of the following:

the first scanned print portion being on the optical surface, the first scanned print portion being above the optical surface, and the first scanned print portion being both above and on the optical surface.

13. A method comprising:

a. identifying a first property of a sleeve on a body part in a first area of a surface, wherein the sleeve contains a plurality of different properties; and

b. generating an event based on identifying the first property of the plurality of different properties in the first area of the surface.

14. The method of claim 13, further comprising the steps of:

c. identifying a second one of the plurality of different properties in the first area of the surface; and

d. generating a second event based on identifying the second one of the plurality of different properties in the first area of the surface, wherein the second event is different from the first event.

15. The method of claim 13, wherein the sleeve comprises a plurality of sleeves on a plurality of body parts, the first one of the plurality of different properties is from a first sleeve of the plurality of sleeves, a second one of the plurality of different properties is from a second sleeve of the plurality of sleeves, and further comprising the steps of:

c. identifying the second one of the plurality of different properties in the first area of the surface; and

d. generating a second event based on identifying the second one of the plurality of different properties in the first area of the surface, wherein the second event is different from the first event.

16. The method of claim 13, further comprising the steps of:

c. identifying the first one of the plurality of different properties in a second area of the surface; and

d. generating a second event based on identifying the first one of the plurality of different properties in the second area of the surface, wherein the second event is different from the first event.

17. The method of claim 13, wherein the event is one of the following:

generating a capital letter, generating a non-capital letter, generating a first language character, generating a second language character, generating a number, generating a tooltip, selecting a text, providing a menu, moving a cursor, generating a left click event, generating a right click event, and providing a help text.

18. The method of claim 13, wherein the surface is at least one of the following:

an optical surface, a touch screen, a computer screen, a mouse pad, a surface on a mouse, a surface on a joystick, a surface on a gaming controller, an LCD display, and a surface on a button.

19. The method of claim 13, wherein the first one of different properties in the first area of the surface comprises at least one of the following:

the first different property being on the optical surface, the first different property being above the optical surface, and the first different property being both above and on the surface.

20. The method of claim 13, wherein the plurality of different electronic properties comprises at least two of the following:

a first capacitance, a second capacitance, a first resistance, a second resistance, a first inductance, a second inductance, a first impedance, a second impedance, a first color, and a second color.

21. A system comprising:

a. an optical scanner configured to get a plurality of scanned print portions of a body part, identify a first one of the plurality of scanned print portions in a first area of an optical surface, and generate a first event based on identifying the first one of the plurality of scanned print portions in the first area of the optical surface.

22. The system of claim 21, wherein the optical scanner is further configured to scan the body part to get the plurality of scanned print portions and associate the first scanned print portion with the first area and the first event.

23. The system of claim 21, wherein the optical scanner is further configured to identify a second one of the plurality of scanned print portions in the first area of the optical surface, and generate a second event based on identifying the second one of the plurality of scanned print portions in the first area of the optical surface, wherein the second event is different from the first event.

24. The system of claim 21, wherein the body part comprises a plurality of body parts, and further comprising the step of scanning the plurality of body parts to get the plurality of scanned print portions.

25. The system of claim 21, wherein the body part comprises a plurality of body parts, the first one of the plurality of scanned print portions is from a first body part of the plurality of body parts, a second one of the plurality of scanned print portions is from a second body part of the plurality of body parts, and the optical scanner is further configured to identify the second one of the plurality of scanned print portions in the first area of the optical surface, and generate a second event based on identifying the second one of the plurality of scanned print portions in the first area of the optical surface, wherein the second event is different from the first event.

26. The system of claim 25, wherein the first one of the plurality of scanned print portions is from a first person and the second one of the plurality of scanned print portions is from a second person.

27. The system of claim 21, wherein the optical scanner is further configured to identify the first one of the plurality of scanned print portions in a second area of the optical surface and generate a second event based on identifying the first one of the plurality of scanned print portions in the second area of the optical surface, wherein the second event is different from the first event.

28. The system of claim 21, wherein the event is one of the following:

generating a capital letter, generating a non-capital letter, generating a first language character, generating a second language character, generating a number, generating a tooltip, selecting a text, providing a menu, moving a cursor, generating a left click event, generating a right click event, and providing a help text.

29. The system of claim 21, wherein the body part is a finger and the plurality of scanned print portions comprises at least two of the following:

a tip of the finger, a bottom of the finger, a right side of the finger, and a left side of the finger.

30. The system of claim 21, wherein the optical surface is at least one of the following:

a touch screen, a computer screen, a mouse pad, a surface on a mouse, a surface on a joystick, a surface on a gaming controller, an LCD display, and a surface on a button.

31. The system of claim 21, wherein the body part is one of the following:

an individual finger, a plurality of fingers, a thumb, a palm, and a toe.

32. The system of claim 21, wherein the first one of scanned print portions in the first area of the optical surface comprises at least one of the following:

the first scanned print portion being on the optical surface, the first scanned print portion being above the optical surface, and the first scanned print portion being both above and on the optical surface.

33. A system comprising:

a property detector configured to identify a first property of a sleeve on a body part in a first area of a surface, wherein the sleeve contains a plurality of different properties, and generate an event based on identifying the first property of the plurality of different properties in the first area of the surface.

34. The system of claim 33, wherein the property detector is further configured to identify a second one of the plurality of different properties in the first area of the surface, and generate a second event based on identifying the second one of the plurality of different properties in the first area of the surface, wherein the second event is different from the first event.

35. The system of claim 33, wherein the sleeve comprises a plurality of sleeves on a plurality of body parts, the first one of the plurality of different properties is from a first sleeve of the plurality of sleeves, a second one of the plurality of different properties is from a second sleeve of the plurality of sleeves, and wherein the property detector is further configured to identify the second one of the plurality of different properties in the first area of the surface and generate a second event based on identifying the second one of the plurality of different properties in the first area of the surface, wherein the second event is different from the first event.

36. The system of claim 33, wherein the property detector is further configured to identify the first one of the plurality of different properties in a second area of the surface and generate a second event based on identifying the first one of the plurality of different properties in the second area of the surface, wherein the second event is different from the first event.

37. The system of claim 33, wherein the event is one of the following:

generating a capital letter, generating a non-capital letter, generating a first language character, generating a second language character, generating a number, generating a tooltip, selecting a text, providing a menu, moving a cursor, generating a left click event, generating a right click event, and providing a help text.

38. The system of claim 33, wherein the surface is at least one of the following:

an optical surface, a touch screen, a computer screen, a mouse pad, a surface on a mouse, a surface on a joystick, a surface on a gaming controller, an LCD display, and a surface on a button.

39. The system of claim 33, wherein the first one of the different properties in the first area of the surface comprises at least one of the following:

the first different property being on the optical surface, the first different property being above the optical surface, and the first different property being both above and on the surface.

40. The system of claim 33, wherein the plurality of different electronic properties comprises at least two of the following:

a first capacitance, a second capacitance, a first resistance, a second resistance, a first inductance, a second inductance, a first impedance, a second impedance, a first color, and a second color.
