1. An assembly for implantation in a living organism comprising:

  • a first article having a mechanical surface configured to be disposed in contact with a material that is not live biological tissue, wherein the mechanical surface has a region of long-range ordered micro-features;

    a second article comprising a bio-interfacial surface configured to be disposed in contact with live biological tissue; and

    adhesive that bonds the region of long-range ordered micro-features of the first article to the second article.
