Abstract

In general, the disclosure describes techniques for storing data corresponding to sensed high-rate non-sustained episodes that occur close in time to detection of a lead integrity condition. A method comprises detecting a first high-rate non-sustained episode, activating a data storage operation for storing data associated with high rate non-sustained episodes in response to detecting the first episode, and storing data associated with the first episode in an episode log in response to activating the data storage operation. Another method comprises detecting a lead integrity condition, and activating a data storage operation for storing data associated with high rate non-sustained episodes in response to detecting the condition.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

detecting a first high rate non-sustained episode;

activating a data storage operation for storing data associated with high rate non-sustained episodes in response to detecting the first episode; and

storing data associated with the first episode in an episode log in response to activating the data storage operation.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

detecting a second high rate non-sustained episode; and

storing data associated with the second episode in the episode log in response to detecting the second episode.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

detecting a lead integrity condition; and

determining whether the episode log contains data associated with a predetermined number of high rate non-sustained episodes.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the episode log contains data associated with the predetermined number of high rate non-sustained episodes, the method further comprising:

turning off the data storage operation; and

preventing data stored in the episode log from being overwritten until the data is accessed for analysis.

5. The method of claim 3, wherein the episode log contains data associated with less than the predetermined number of high rate non-sustained episodes, the method further comprising:

detecting an additional high rate non-sustained episode; and

storing data associated with the additional episode in the episode log in response to detecting the additional episode.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

determining that the data storage operation has been active for a threshold time period; and

turning off the data storage operation in response to determining that the data storage operation has been active for the threshold time period.

7. A method comprising:

detecting a lead integrity condition; and

activating a data storage operation for storing data associated with high rate non-sustained episodes in response to detecting the condition.

8. The method of claim 7, further comprising:

detecting up to a predetermined number of fast rate non-sustained episodes; and

storing data associated with the detected fast rate non-sustained episodes in an episode log.

9. The method of claim 8, further comprising

preventing data stored in the episode log from being overwritten until the data is accessed for analysis;

and

turning off the data storage operation.

10. A system comprising:

a sensing module that monitors a signal indicative of cardiac contractions;

a processor that detects a first high rate non-sustained episode based on the signal sensed by the sensing module and activates a data storage operation for storing data associated with high rate non-sustained episodes in response to detecting the first episode; and

a memory that stores data associated with the first episode in response to the processor activating the data storage operation.

11. The system of claim 10, wherein the processor detects a second high rate non-sustained episode based on the signal sensed by the sensing module and the memory stores data associated with the second episode in response to the processor detecting the second episode.

12. The system of claim 10, wherein the processor detects a lead integrity condition based on the signal sensed by the sensing module and determines whether the memory contains data associated with a predetermined number of high rate non-sustained episodes.

13. The system of claim 12, wherein the processor determines that the memory contains data associated with the predetermined number of high rate non-sustained episodes, turns off the data storage operation in response to the determination, and prevents data stored in the memory from being overwritten until the data is accessed for analysis.

14. The system of claim 12, wherein the processor determines that the memory contains data associated with less than the predetermined number of high rate non-sustained episodes, the processor detects an additional high rate non-sustained episode based on the signal sensed by the sensing module, and the memory stores data associated with the additional episode in response to the processor detecting the additional episode.

15. The system of claim 10, wherein the processor determines that the data storage operation has been active for a threshold time period and turns off the data storage operation in response to determining that the data storage operation has been active for the threshold time period.

16. The system of claim 10, wherein the data associated with the first episode comprises an electrogram signal sensed by the sensing module.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein the data associated with the first episode further comprises a marker channel associated with the electrogram.

18. The system of claim 10, further comprising an implantable medical device that comprises the sensing module.

19. The system of claim 18, wherein the implantable medical device comprises the processor.

20. The system of claim 18, wherein the implantable medical device comprises at least one of a pacemaker, cardioverter, or defibrillator.

21. A system comprising:

a sensing module that monitors a signal indicative of cardiac contractions; and

a processor that detects a lead integrity condition based on the signal sensed by the sensing module and activates a data storage operation for storing data associated with high rate non-sustained episodes in response to detecting the condition.

22. The system of claim 21, wherein the processor detects up to a predetermined number of fast rate non-sustained episodes based on the signal sensed by the sensing module, the system further comprising a memory that stores data associated with the fast rate non-sustained episodes detected by the processor.

23. The system of claim 22, wherein the processor prevents data stored in the memory from being overwritten until the data is accessed for analysis and turns off the data storage operation.

24. The system of claim 21, wherein the processor monitors at least one of lead impedance, a frequency of high rate non-sustained episodes, and a frequency of short cardiac intervals based on the signal sensed by the sensing module and detects the lead integrity condition based on at least one of the lead impedance, the frequency of high rate non-sustained episodes, and the frequency of short cardiac intervals based on the signal sensed by the sensing module.

25. A system comprising:

means for detecting a first high rate non-sustained episode;

means for activating a data storage operation for storing data associated with high rate non-sustained episodes in response to detecting the first episode; and

means for storing data associated with the first episode in an episode log in response to activating the data storage operation.

26. A system comprising:

means for detecting a lead integrity condition; and

means for activating a data storage operation for storing data associated with high rate non-sustained episodes in response to detecting the condition.
