Abstract

A system for enriching document content using enrichment themes includes a directed search service and an import-export service. The directed search service allows users to author documents while querying information providers using the directed searches that are inserted as part of the authored documents. The import-export service enables meta-document exchanges between systems that provide document enrichment by binding imported meta-documents to identical or similar information providers.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

receiving user input specifying (i) search criteria for acquiring search results, (ii) a maximum payment amount that may be paid for document content, and (iii) result parameters that indicate how to enrich a document with document content embodying search results;

defining a machine readable form of the search criteria and the result parameters for insertion into the document to be enriched;

responsive to receipt of the search criteria inserted in the document in the machine readable form, using the search criteria to acquire search results;

the acquired search results being associated with a purchase fee;

providing document content to enrich the document with document content embodying the search results in accordance with the result parameters when the purchase fee does not exceed the maximum payment amount;

wherein at least said receiving, translating, using, and providing are performed using one or more processors.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the machine readable form is a markup language.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the document content provided to enrich the document is provided in the form of a link.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the document content provided to enrich the document is provided in the form of content.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the document content provided to enrich the document is provided in the form of metadata.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein said providing further comprises filtering the search results.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein said providing further comprises summarizing the search results.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein said providing provides content to enrich the document with document content embodying a notice that search results exist for purchase when the purchase fee exceeds the maximum payment amount.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the notice that search results exist for purchase includes a price.

10. The method of claim 9, where said defining further comprises defining a machine readable form of the maximum payment amount for insertion into the document to be enriched.
