Abstract

Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate controlling interference in a heterogeneous wireless communication environment. A Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH) transmission from an interfering base station can be punctured based upon a puncturing pattern as a function of a cell identifier (ID) and a transmit time. Puncturing can be effectuated by applying power control. Thus, a punctured symbol or subframe can have a reduced transmit power or a transmit power set to zero. Further, the puncturing pattern can be defined on a subframe basis or on a symbol basis.

Claims

1. A method that facilitates controlling interference in a heterogeneous wireless communication environment, comprising:

determining a transmit power for a transmission symbol from a puncturing pattern as a function of a cell identifier (ID) and a transmit time; and

sending the transmission symbol at the transmit power.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the transmission symbol is a Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH) symbol.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the cell ID is a macro cell ID.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the cell ID is a femto cell ID.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the puncturing pattern hops over time.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the puncturing pattern is defined on a subframe basis.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the puncturing pattern sets a transmit power for a particular set of transmission symbols in a particular subframe from a frame at a first level and sets a transmit power for a disparate set of transmission symbols in a disparate subframe from the frame at a second level that is lower than the first level to puncture the disparate set of transmission symbols in the disparate subframe.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the frame is a Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH) frame.

9. The method of claim 6, wherein the puncturing pattern sets a transmit power for a particular set of transmission symbols in a particular subframe from a frame at a given level and inhibits transmission of a disparate set of transmission symbols in a disparate subframe from the frame by setting a corresponding transmit power to zero to puncture the disparate set of transmission symbols in the disparate subframe.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the frame is a Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH) frame.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the puncturing pattern is defined on a symbol basis.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the puncturing pattern sets a transmit power for a particular transmission symbol from a frame at a first level and sets a transmit power for a disparate transmission symbol from the frame at a second level that is lower than the first level to puncture the disparate transmission symbol.

13. The method of claim 11, wherein the puncturing pattern sets a transmit power for a particular transmission symbol from a frame at a given level and inhibits transmission of a disparate transmission symbol from the frame by setting a corresponding transmit power to zero to puncture the disparate transmission symbol.

14. The method of claim 1, further comprising reducing a transmit power of a Physical Downlink Shared Channel (PDSCH) transmission on a center six resource blocks when the PDSCH transmission collides with Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH) signals from a neighbor base station.

15. The method of claim 1, wherein the puncturing pattern clusters punctured transmission symbols in a frame.

16. The method of claim 1, wherein the puncturing pattern distributes punctured transmission symbols in a frame.

17. The method of claim 1, wherein the punctured pattern distributes punctured transmission symbols across multiple frames.

18. A wireless communications apparatus, comprising:

a memory that retains instructions related to determining a transmit power for a transmission symbol from a puncturing pattern as a function of a cell identifier (ID) and a transmit time, and broadcasting the transmission symbol at the transmit power; and

a processor, coupled to the memory, configured to execute the instructions retained in the memory.

19. The wireless communications apparatus of claim 18, wherein the transmission symbol is a Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH) symbol.

20. The wireless communications apparatus of claim 18, wherein the cell ID is one of a femto cell ID or a macro cell ID.

21. The wireless communications apparatus of claim 18, wherein the puncturing pattern hops over time.

22. The wireless communications apparatus of claim 18, wherein the puncturing pattern is defined on a subframe basis.

23. The wireless communications apparatus of claim 22, wherein the puncturing pattern sets a transmit power for a particular set of transmission symbols in a particular subframe from a frame at a first level and sets a transmit power for a disparate set of transmission symbols in a disparate subframe from the frame at a second level that is lower than the first level to puncture the disparate set of transmission symbols in the disparate subframe.

24. The wireless communications apparatus of claim 22, wherein the puncturing pattern sets a transmit power for a particular set of transmission symbols in a particular subframe from a frame at a given level and inhibits transmission of a disparate set of transmission symbols in a disparate subframe from the frame by setting a corresponding transmit power to zero to puncture the disparate set of transmission symbols in the disparate subframe.

25. The wireless communications apparatus of claim 18, wherein the puncturing pattern is defined on a symbol basis.

The wireless communications apparatus of claim 25, wherein the puncturing pattern sets a transmit power for a particular transmission symbol from a frame at a first level and sets a transmit power for a disparate transmission symbol from the frame at a second level that is lower than the first level to puncture the disparate transmission symbol.

27. The wireless communications apparatus of claim 25, wherein the puncturing pattern sets a transmit power for a particular transmission symbol from a frame at a given level and inhibits transmission of a disparate transmission symbol from the frame by setting a corresponding transmit power to zero to puncture the disparate transmission symbol.

28. The wireless communications apparatus of claim 18, wherein the memory further retains instructions related to reducing a transmit power of a Physical Downlink Shared Channel (PDSCH) transmission on a center six resource blocks when the PDSCH transmission collides with Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH) signals from a neighbor base station.

29. The wireless communications apparatus of claim 18, wherein the puncturing pattern clusters punctured transmission symbols in a frame.

30. The wireless communications apparatus of claim 18, wherein the puncturing pattern distributes punctured transmission symbols in a frame.

31. The wireless communications apparatus of claim 18, wherein the punctured pattern distributes punctured transmission symbols across multiple frames.

32. A wireless communications apparatus that enables managing interference in a heterogeneous wireless communication environment, comprising:

means for determining a transmit power for a transmission symbol from a puncturing pattern as a function of a cell identifier (ID) and a transmit time; and

means for sending the transmission symbol at the transmit power.

33. The wireless communications apparatus of claim 32, wherein the transmission symbol is a Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH) symbol.

34. The wireless communications apparatus of claim 32, wherein the cell ID is one of a femto cell ID or a macro cell ID.

35. The wireless communications apparatus of claim 32, further comprising means for reducing a transmit power of a Physical Downlink Shared Channel (PDSCH) transmission on a center six resource blocks when the PDSCH transmission collides with Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH) signals from a neighbor base station.

36. The wireless communications apparatus of claim 32, wherein the puncturing pattern hops over time.

37. The wireless communications apparatus of claim 32, wherein the puncturing pattern is defined on a subframe basis.

38. The wireless communications apparatus of claim 32, wherein the puncturing pattern is defined on a symbol basis.

39. The wireless communications apparatus of claim 32, wherein the puncturing pattern clusters punctured transmission symbols in a frame.

40. The wireless communications apparatus of claim 32, wherein the puncturing pattern distributes punctured transmission symbols at least one of in a frame or across multiple frames.

41. A computer program product, comprising:

a computer-readable medium comprising;

code for determining a transmit power for a transmission symbol from a puncturing pattern as a function of a cell identifier (ID) and a transmit time; and

code for sending the transmission symbol at the transmit power.

42. The computer program product of claim 41, wherein the transmission symbol is a Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH) symbol.

43. The computer program product of claim 41, wherein the computer-readable medium further comprises code for reducing a transmit power of a Physical Downlink Shared Channel (PDSCH) transmission on a center six resource blocks when the PDSCH transmission collides with Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH) signals from a neighbor base station.

44. The computer program product of claim 41, wherein the puncturing pattern is defined on a subframe basis.

45. The computer program product of claim 41, wherein the puncturing pattern is defined on a symbol basis.

46. A wireless communications apparatus, comprising:

a processor configured to;

determine a transmit power for a transmission symbol from a puncturing pattern as a function of a cell identifier (ID) and a transmit time; and

send the transmission symbol at the transmit power.

47. The wireless communications apparatus of claim 46, wherein the puncturing patterns is at least one of defined on a subframe basis or defined on a symbol basis.

48. A method that facilitates detecting system information in a heterogeneous wireless communication environment, comprising:

identifying at least one punctured transmission symbol sent by a base station from a puncturing pattern as a function of a cell identifier (ID) and a transmit time; and

decoding system information from the base station by ignoring log likelihood ratios (LLRs) from the at least one punctured transmission symbol.

49. The method of claim 48, wherein the at least one punctured transmission symbol is at least one punctured Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH) symbol.

50. The method of claim 48, wherein the puncturing pattern hops over time.

51. The method of claim 48, wherein the puncturing pattern is defined on a subframe basis.

52. The method of claim 48, wherein the puncturing pattern is defined on a symbol basis.

53. A wireless communications apparatus, comprising:

a memory that retains instructions related to identifying at least one punctured transmission symbol sent by a base station from a puncturing pattern as a function of a cell identifier (ID) and a transmit time, and decoding system information from the base station by ignoring log likelihood ratios (LLRs) from the at least one punctured transmission symbol; and

a processor, coupled to the memory, configured to execute the instructions retained in the memory.

54. The wireless communications apparatus of claim 53, wherein the puncturing pattern hops over time.

55. The wireless communications apparatus of claim 53, wherein the puncturing pattern is defined on a subframe basis.

56. The wireless communications apparatus of claim 53, wherein the puncturing pattern is defined on a symbol basis.

57. A wireless communications apparatus that enables obtaining system information in a wireless communication environment, comprising:

means for identifying at least one punctured transmission symbol sent by a base station from a puncturing pattern as a function of a cell identifier (ID) and a transmit time; and

means for decoding system information from the base station by ignoring log likelihood ratios (LLRs) from the at least one punctured transmission symbol.

58. The wireless communications apparatus of claim 57, wherein the puncturing pattern hops over time.

59. The wireless communications apparatus of claim 57, wherein the puncturing pattern is at least one of defined on a subframe basis or defined on a symbol basis.

60. A computer program product, comprising:

a computer-readable medium comprising;

code for recognizing at least one punctured transmission symbol sent by a base station from a puncturing pattern as a function of a cell identifier (ID) and a transmit time; and

code for decoding system information from the base station by ignoring log likelihood ratios (LLRs) from the at least one punctured transmission symbol.

61. The computer program product of claim 60, wherein the puncturing pattern hops over time.

62. The computer program product of claim 60, wherein the puncturing pattern is at least one of defined on a subframe basis or defined on a symbol basis.

63. A wireless communications apparatus, comprising:

a processor configured to;

identify at least one punctured transmission symbol sent by a base station from a puncturing pattern as a function of a cell identifier (ID) and a transmit time; and

decode system information from the base station by ignoring log likelihood ratios (LLRs) from the at least one punctured transmission symbol.
