1. A meter configured to determine an analyte concentration of a fluid sample, the meter comprising:

  • a housing;

    a temperature sensor disposed within the housing;

    a processor configured to predict a temperature value that approximates an ambient temperature outside of the housing, the predicted temperature value based on a preceding predicted temperature value and received prior temperature data that is at least partially associated with the temperature sensor such that the predicted temperature value is set equal to the preceding predicted temperature value if a recently received prior temperature value (i) is within predetermined upper and lower temperature thresholds, and (ii) exceeds the preceding predicted temperature value.
