Abstract

A method and system to communicate a plurality of hyperlinks that is associated with text that is contained in a webpage is described. The system comprises at least one processor and at least one software component. The at least one software component is executable by the at least one processor to receive the text, via a network, from a website. The at least one software component further compares a first portion of the text to at least one character string that is stored in a database to identify the first portion of the text as included in both the webpage and the database. The first portion of the text further is associated with a first hyperlink. The at least one software component is further executable by the at least one processor to compare a second portion of the text to at least one character string that is stored in the database to identify the second portion of the text as included in both the webpage and the database. The second portion of the text is further associated with a second hyperlink. The at least one software component to further communicate the plurality of hyperlinks to the website, the plurality of hyperlinks includes at least the first and the second hyperlinks.

Claims

1. A method for automatically communicating a plurality of hyperlinks associated with text that is contained in a webpage, the method comprising:

receiving the text, via a network, from a website;

comparing a first portion of the text to at least one character string that is stored in a database to identify the first portion of the text as being included in both the webpage and the database, the first portion of the text further being associated with a first hyperlink;

comparing a second portion of the text to at least one character string that is stored in the database to identify the second portion of the text as being included in both the webpage and the database, the second portion of the text further being associated with a second hyperlink; and

communicating the plurality of hyperlinks to the website, the plurality of hyperlinks including at least the first and the second hyperlinks.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the first hyperlink is associated with an advertisement about a product that is described by the first portion of the text.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the first hyperlink is selectable to purchase of the product at a fourth website.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the webpage contains an explicit prohibition against modification of the text.

5. The method of claim 2, wherein the advertisement is a banner.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

identifying the third party site as being associated with a topic;

determining the topic of the text based on the identifying; and

identifying the at least one character string in the database from other character strings in the database based on the topic.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one character string stored in the database is limited from the other character strings in stored in the database based on the topic.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the text comprises content of a newsgroup article.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the webpage includes a header, and wherein the header is formatted as an “

X-no-modify”

header.

10. A system to communicate a plurality of hyperlinks that is associated with text that is contained in a webpage, the system comprising:

at least one hardware component including at least one processor; and

at least one software component that is executable by the at least one processor to receive the text, via a network, from a website, the at least one software component to further compare a first portion of the text to at least one character string that is stored in a database to identify the first portion of the text as included in both the webpage and the database, the first portion of the text further is associated with a first hyperlink, the at least one software component to further compare a second portion of the text to at least one character string that is stored in the database to identify the second portion of the text as included in both the webpage and the database, the second portion of the text is further associated with a second hyperlink, the at least one software component to further communicate the plurality of hyperlinks to the website, the plurality of hyperlinks includes at least the first and the second hyperlinks.

11. The system of claim 10, wherein the first hyperlink is associated with an advertisement about a product that is described by the first portion of the text.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the first hyperlink is selectable to purchase the product at a fourth website.

13. The system of claim 10, wherein the webpage contains an explicit prohibition against modification of the text.

14. The system of claim 11, wherein the advertisement is a banner.

15. The system of claim 10, wherein the at least one software component is executable to identify the third party site as associated with the topic, determine a topic of the text, and identify the at least one character string in the database from other character strings in the database based on the topic.

16. The system of claim 10, wherein the at least one character string stored in the database is limited from the other character strings in stored in the database based on the topic.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein the text comprises content of a newsgroup article.

18. The system of claim 10, wherein the webpage includes a header, and wherein the header is formatted as an “

X-no-modify”

header.
