Abstract

Light engine modules comprise a support member and a solid state light emitter, in which (1) the emitter is mounted on the support member, (2) a region of the support member has a surface with a curved cross-section, (3) the emitter and a compensation circuit are mounted on the support member, (4) an electrical contact element extends to at least two surfaces of the support member, and/or (5) a substantial entirety of the module is located on one side of a plane and the emitter emits light into another side of the plane. Also, a module comprising means for supporting a light emitter and a light emitter. Also, a lighting device comprising a housing member and a light emitter mounted on a removable support member. Also, a lighting device comprising a module mounted in a lighting device element. Also, a method comprising mounting a module to a lighting device element.

Claims

1. A light engine module, comprising:

at least a first solid state light emitter support member; and

at least a first solid state light emitter,

the first solid state light emitter being mounted on the first solid state light emitter support member,

at least a first region of the first solid state light emitter support member comprising a surface that has a curved cross-section.

2. A light engine module as recited in claim 1, wherein at least a portion of the curved cross-section is substantially arc-shaped.

3. A light engine module as recited in claim 1, wherein the light engine module, when supplied with electricity, emits light that is perceived as white light.

4. A light engine module as recited in claim 1, wherein the light engine module, when supplied with electricity, emits light that is perceived as blue light.

5. A lighting device comprising a light engine module as recited in claim 1 mounted in a lighting device element.

6. A lighting device as recited in claim 2, wherein the lighting device element comprises at least one housing member, at least one lens and at least one electrical connector.

7. A method comprising mounting a light engine module as recited in claim 1 to a lighting device element.

14. A lighting device comprising a light engine module as recited in claim 6 mounted in a lighting device element.

15. A lighting device as recited in claim 14, wherein the lighting device element comprises at least one housing member, at least one lens and at least one electrical connector.

8. A light engine module, comprising:

at least a first solid state light emitter support member;

at least a first solid state light emitter; and

at least a first compensation circuit,

the first solid state light emitter and the first compensation circuit being mounted on the first solid state light emitter support member.

9. A light engine module as recited in claim 8, wherein the first solid state light emitter is mounted on a first surface of the first solid state light emitter support member and the first compensation circuit is mounted on a second surface of the first solid state light emitter support member.

10. A light engine module as recited in claim 8, wherein the first compensation circuit comprises a temperature compensation circuit.

11. A light engine module as recited in claim 8, wherein the first compensation circuit comprises a color emission intensity compensation circuit.

12. A light engine module as recited in claim 8, wherein the light engine module, when supplied with electricity, emits light that is perceived as white light.

13. A light engine module as recited in claim 8, wherein the light engine module, when supplied with electricity, emits light that is perceived as blue light.

16. A method comprising mounting a light engine module as recited in claim 8 to a lighting device element.

17. A light engine module, comprising:

at least a first solid state light emitter support member;

at least a first solid state light emitter; and

at least a first electrical contact element,

the first solid state light emitter being mounted on a first surface of the first solid state light emitter support member,

the first electrical contact element extending at least from the first surface of the solid state light emitter support member to a second surface of the solid state light emitter support member.

18. A light engine module as recited in claim 17, wherein the second surface of the solid state light emitter support member comprises a surface that has a curved cross-section.

19. A light engine module as recited in claim 18, wherein at least a portion of the curved cross-section is substantially arc-shaped.

20. A light engine module as recited in claim 17, wherein the light engine module, when supplied with electricity, emits light that is perceived as white light.

21. A light engine module as recited in claim 17, wherein the light engine module, when supplied with electricity, emits light that is perceived as blue light.

22. A lighting device comprising a light engine module as recited in claim 17 mounted in a lighting device element.

23. A lighting device as recited in claim 22, wherein the lighting device element comprises at least one housing member, at least one lens and at least one electrical connector.

24. A method comprising mounting a light engine module as recited in claim 17 to a lighting device element.

25. A light engine module, comprising:

at least a first solid state light emitter support member; and

at least a first solid state light emitter,

the first solid state light emitter being mounted on the first solid state light emitter support member,

a substantial entirety of the light engine module being located on a second side of an emission plane of the first solid state light emitter, substantially all of the light emitted by the first solid state light emitter being emitted into a first side of the emission plane of the first solid state light emitter.

26. A light engine module as recited in claim 25, wherein:

a first dimension of the light engine module, the first dimension being the largest dimension of the light engine module extending in a first plane parallel to the emission plane of the first solid state light emitter,

is at least as large as the largest dimension of the light engine module extending in any plane that is farther from the emission plane of the first solid state light emitter than the first plane and that is parallel to the emission plane of the first solid state light emitter.

27. A light engine module as recited in claim 26, wherein a second dimension of the light engine module is smaller than the first dimension of the light engine module, the second dimension being the largest dimension of the light engine module extending in a second plane parallel to the emission plane of the first solid state light emitter, the second plane being farther from the emission plane of the first solid state light emitter than the first plane.

28. A light engine module as recited in claim 25, wherein:

a first dimension of the light engine module, the first dimension extending in a first direction in a first plane parallel to the emission plane of the first solid state light emitter,

is at least as large as the dimension of the light engine module extending in any direction that is parallel to the first direction and that is in a second plane, the second plane being farther from the emission plane of the first solid state light emitter than the first plane and the second plane being parallel to the emission plane of the first solid state light emitter.

A light engine module as recited in claim 28, wherein a second dimension of the light engine module is smaller than the first dimension of the light engine module, the second dimension being a dimension of the light engine module extending in a second plane parallel to the emission plane of the first solid state light emitter, the second plane being farther from the emission plane of the first solid state light emitter than the first plane,

A light engine module as recited in claim 25, wherein a plurality of solid state light emitters are mounted on the first solid state light emitter support member, and substantially all of the light emitted by the plurality of solid state light emitters is emitted into the first side of the emission plane of the first solid state light emitter.

31. A light engine module as recited in claim 25, wherein the light engine module, when supplied with electricity, emits light that is perceived as white light.

32. A light engine module as recited in claim 25, wherein the light engine module, when supplied with electricity, emits light that is perceived as blue light.

33. A lighting device comprising a light engine module as recited in claim 25 mounted in a lighting device element.

34. A lighting device as recited in claim 33, wherein the lighting device element comprises at least one housing member, at least one lens and at least one electrical connector.

35. A method comprising mounting a light engine module as recited in claim 25 to a lighting device element.

36. A light engine module, comprising:

means for supporting at least a first solid state light emitter; and

at least a first solid state light emitter.

37. A lighting device, comprising:

at least one housing member;

at least a first solid state light emitter support member; and

at least a first solid state light emitter,

the first solid state light emitter being mounted on the first solid state light emitter support member,

the first solid state light emitter support member being removably supported by the at least one housing member.

38. A lighting device as recited in claim 37, wherein the lighting device occupies substantially the same space as an A lamp.

39. A lighting device as recited in claim 37, wherein the lighting device occupies substantially the same space as an A19 lamp.
