Abstract

A data interface for transferring digital data between a host and a client over a communication path using packet structures linked together to form a communication protocol for communicating a pre-selected set of digital control and presentation data. The signal protocol is used by link controllers configured to generate, transmit, and receive packets forming the communications protocol, and to form digital data into one or more types of data packets, with at least one residing in the host device and being coupled to the client through the communications path. The interface provides a cost-effective, low power, bi-directional, high-speed data transfer mechanism over a short-range “serial” type data link, which lends itself to implementation with miniature connectors and thin flexible cables which are especially useful in connecting display elements such as wearable micro-displays to portable computers and wireless communication devices.

Claims

1. A method for revising display attributes in a mobile display digital interface (MDDI) communication system, the method comprising the steps of:

sending a display power state packet comprising the revised display attributes from a host to a client;

acknowledging receipt of the display power packet by the client; and

implementing the revised display attributes by the client.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the display attributes comprise a display power state and a backlight power state.

3. A system for revising display attributes in a mobile display digital interface (MDDI) communication system, the system comprising:

means for sending a display power state packet comprising the revised display attributes from a host to a client;

means for acknowledging receipt of the display power packet by the client; and

means for implementing the revised display attributes by the client.

4. The system of claim 3 wherein the display attributes comprise a display power state and a backlight power state.

5. A computer program product, comprising:

computer readable medium comprising;

code for causing a revision of display attributes in a mobile display digital interface (MDDI) communication system, the computer code comprising;

code for causing a display power state packet comprising the revised display attributes to be sent from a host to a client;

code for causing a receipt of the display power packet to be acknowledged by the client; and

code for causing the revised display attributes to be implemented by the client.

6. The computer program product of claim 5 wherein the display attributes comprise a display power state and a backlight power state.
