Abstract

A method for wireless communications is disclosed that includes determining a power operation control feature of a first mode of operation of a user equipment (UE). A channel prioritization is triggered based at least in part on the power operation control feature. A second configuration indicating UE operation in a second mode is received and is based on a UE generated report of a state resulting from the first mode of operation. The second mode of operation is then implemented.

Claims

1. A method for wireless communications, comprising:

receiving a first configuration indicating user equipment (UE) operation in a first mode;

determining a power operation control feature of the first mode of operation;

triggering channel prioritization based at least in part on the power operation control feature;

based on a UE generated report of a state resulting from the first mode of operation, receiving a second configuration indicating UE operation in a second mode; and

implementing the second mode of operation.

2. The method of claim 1, in which the determining comprises determining a power operation control feature of the first mode of operation depending on whether the UE is power limited.

3. The method of claim 1, in which triggering channel prioritization is also based on what channel is being transmitted and whether the UE is configured in single carrier format.

4. The method of claim 1, in which the first mode of operation is 3GPP release 10 and the second mode of operation is 3GPP Release 8/9, and in which each mode of operation includes release specific features.

5. The method of claim 1, in which the report comprises at least one of a power headroom report, a CQI (channel quality indicator) report and a measurement report.

6. The method of claim 1, in which the channel prioritization includes one of single carrier priority rules with power scaling and multicarrier priority rules with power scaling.

7. The method of claim 6, in which the channel prioritization assigns priority for transmissions, in order of highest to lowest, as radio resource control (RRC) signaling and medium access control (MAC) signaling on a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH);

physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) transmissions, and non RRC/MAC physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) transmissions.

The method of claim 7, in which a hierarchy of priority rules is configured within the physical uplink control channel (PUCCH), from highest to lowest priority, as error correction feedback signals, scheduling requests, rank indicators, channel quality indicator (CQI) report/precoding matrix indicator (PMI) signals, and sounding reference signals.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising reconfiguring a mode of operation from the first mode to the second mode, when a power headroom report exceeds a predetermined threshold.

10. A method for wireless communications, comprising:

determining a power operation control feature of a first mode of operation of a User Equipment (UE);

triggering channel prioritization based at least in part on the power operation control feature;

based on a UE generated report of a state resulting from the first mode of operation, receiving a second configuration indicating UE operation in a second mode; and

implementing the second mode of operation.

11. The method of claim 10, in which the determining comprises determining a power operation control feature of the first mode of operation depending on whether the UE is power limited.

12. The method of claim 10, in which triggering channel prioritization is also based on what channel is being transmitted and whether the UE is configured in single carrier format.

13. The method of claim 10, in which the first mode of operation is 3GPP release 10 and the second mode of operation is 3GPP Release 8/9, and in which each mode of operation includes release specific features.

14. The method of claim 10, in which the report comprises at least one of a power headroom report, a CQI (channel quality indicator) report and a measurement report.

15. The method of claim 10, in which the channel prioritization includes one of single carrier priority rules with power scaling and multicarrier priority rules with power scaling.

16. The method of claim 15, in which the channel prioritization assigns priority for transmissions, in order of highest to lowest, as:

radio resource control (RRC) signaling and medium access control (MAC) signaling on a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH);

physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) transmissions, and non RRC/MAC physical uplink shared channel (PUS CH) transmissions.

17. The method of claim 16, in which a hierarchy of priority rules is configured within the physical uplink control channel (PUCCH), from highest to lowest priority, as error correction feedback signals, scheduling requests, rank indicators, channel quality indicator (CQI) report/precoding matrix indicator (PMI) signals, and sounding reference signals.

18. The method of claim 10, further comprising reconfiguring a mode of operation from the first mode to the second mode, when a power headroom report exceeds a predetermined threshold.

19. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

means for determining a power operation control feature of a first mode of operation;

means for triggering channel prioritization based at least in part on the power operation control feature;

based on a UE generated report of a state resulting from the first mode of operation, means for receiving a second configuration indicating UE operation in a second mode; and

means for implementing the second mode of operation.

20. The apparatus of claim 19, further comprising a means for receiving a first configuration indicating User Equipment (UE) operation in the first mode.

21. The apparatus of claim 19, in which the determining means comprises determining a power operation control feature of the first mode of operation depending on whether the UE is power limited.

22. The apparatus of claim 19, in which the means for triggering channel prioritization also triggers based on what channel is being transmitted and whether the UE is configured in single carrier format.

23. The apparatus of claim 19, in which the first mode of operation is 3GPP release 10 and the second mode of operation is 3GPP Release 8/9, and in which each mode of operation includes release specific features.

24. The apparatus of claim 19, in which the report comprises at least one of a power headroom report, a CQI (channel quality indicator) report and a measurement report.

25. The apparatus of claim 19, in which the channel prioritization includes one of single carrier priority rules with power scaling and multicarrier priority rules with power scaling.

26. The apparatus of claim 25, in which the channel prioritization assigns priority for transmissions, in order of highest to lowest, as radio resource control (RRC) signaling and medium access control (MAC) signaling on a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH);

physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) transmissions, and non RRC/MAC physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) transmissions.

The apparatus of claim 26, in which a hierarchy of priority rules is configured within the physical uplink control channel (PUCCH), from highest to lowest priority, as error correction feedback signals, scheduling requests, rank indicators, channel quality indicator (CQI) report/precoding matrix indicator (PMI) signals, and sounding reference signals.

28. The apparatus of claim 19, further comprising means for reconfiguring a mode of operation from the first mode to the second mode, when a power headroom report exceeds a predetermined threshold.

29. A computer program product for wireless communication in a wireless network, comprising:

a computer-readable medium having a program code recorded thereon, the program code comprising;

program code to determine a power operation control feature of a first mode of operation;

program code to trigger channel prioritization based at least in part on the power operation control feature;

program code to receive a second configuration based on a UE generated report of a state resulting from the first mode of operation, the second configuration indicating UE operation in a second mode; and

program code to implement the second mode of operation.

30. The computer program product of claim 29, in which the program code further comprises program code to receive a first configuration indicating User Equipment (UE) operation in the first mode.

31. The computer program product of claim 29, in which the program code to trigger channel prioritization is also based on what channel is being transmitted and whether the UE is configured in single carrier format.

32. The computer program product of claim 29, in which the program code to determine a power operation control feature of the first mode of operation depends on whether the UE is power limited.

33. The computer program product of claim 29, in which the first mode of operation is 3GPP release 10 and the second mode of operation is 3GPP Release 8/9, and in which each mode of operation includes release specific features.

34. The computer program product of claim 29, in which the channel prioritization includes one of single carrier priority rules with power scaling and multicarrier priority rules with power scaling.

35. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

a memory; and

at least one processor coupled to the memory, the at least one processor being configured;

to determine a power operation control feature of a first mode of operation;

to trigger channel prioritization based at least in part on the power operation control feature;

to receive a second configuration based on a UE generated report of a state resulting from the first mode of operation, the second configuration indicating UE operation in a second mode; and

to implement the second mode of operation.

36. The apparatus of claim 35, in which the processor is further configured to receive a first configuration indicating User Equipment (UE) operation in the first mode.

37. The apparatus of claim 35, in which the processor is further configured to determine a power operation control feature of the first mode of operation depending on whether the UE is power limited.

38. The apparatus of claim 35, in which the triggering channel prioritization is also based on what channel is being transmitted and whether the UE is configured in single carrier format.

39. The apparatus of claim 35, in which the first mode of operation is 3GPP release 10 and the second mode of operation is 3GPP Release 8/9, and in which each mode of operation includes release specific features.

40. The apparatus of claim 35, in which the report comprises at least one of a power headroom report, a CQI (channel quality indicator) report and a measurement report.

41. The apparatus of claim 35, in which the channel prioritization includes one of single carrier priority rules with power scaling and multicarrier priority rules with power scaling.

42. The apparatus of claim 41, in which the channel prioritization assigns priority for transmissions, in order of highest to lowest, as:

radio resource control (RRC) signaling and medium access control (MAC) signaling on a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH);

physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) transmissions, and non RRC/MAC physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) transmissions.

43. The apparatus of claim 42, in which a hierarchy of priority rules is configured within the physical uplink control channel (PUCCH), from highest to lowest priority, as error correction feedback signals, scheduling requests, rank indicators, channel quality indicator (CQI) report/precoding matrix indicator (PMI) signals, and sounding reference signals.

44. The method of claim 35, in which the processor is further configured to reconfigure a mode of operation from the first mode to the second mode, when a power headroom report exceeds a predetermined threshold.
