Abstract

A power management method of a station in a wireless local area network (WLAN) system and the station supporting the method are provided. The method includes: transmitting to an access point (AP) a power save configuration (PSC) request frame for reporting that the STA intends to transition to a power save (PS) mode; receiving from the AP a PSC response frame in response to the PSC request frame; and after receiving the PSC response frame, entering the PS mode.

Claims

1. A power management method of a station (STA), comprising:

transmitting to an access point (AP) a power save configuration (PSC) request frame for reporting that the STA intends to transition to a power save (PS) mode;

receiving from the AP a PSC response frame in response to the PSC request frame; and

after receiving the PSC response frame, entering the PS mode.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the PSC request frame includes a wakeup schedule for indicating a period in which the STA operates in a wakeup state.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the PSC request frame includes a power management (PM) field, and the PM field is set to 1.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the PSC response frame includes a status code field to indicate that the AP successfully receives the PSC request frame.

5. A power management method of a station (STA), comprising:

receiving from an access point (AP) an information response frame including a wakeup schedule of a destination STA which is a target of frame transmission; and

transmitting to the destination STA a data frame according to the wakeup schedule.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the information response frame is transmitted in response to an information request frame for requesting transmission of the information response frame.

7. The method of claim 5, wherein the information request frame has a target address set to a medium access control (MAC) address of the destination STA, and includes a request information element for indicating the wakeup schedule of the destination STA.

8. The method of claim 5, wherein the information response frame includes a requested information element field, and the requested information element field includes a wakeup schedule information element of the destination STA.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the wakeup scheduling information element includes a length field indicating a length of the wakeup schedule information element, a start time field indicating a start time at which the destination STA initially operates in a wakeup state in a beacon interval, and a sleep interval field indicating an interval of a period in which the plurality of destination STAs existing in the beacon interval remain in the wakeup state.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein if the destination STA operates in an active mode, the length field of the wakeup schedule information element of the information response frame is set to 0.

11. A power management method of a station (STA), performed by an access point (AP), in a wireless local area network (WLAN) system, the method comprising:

receiving a power save configuration (PSC) request frame including a wakeup schedule of a first STA from the first STA coupled to a control STA and an information response frame from the AP;

receiving from a second STA an information request frame for requesting the wakeup schedule of the first STA; and

transmitting an information response frame including the wakeup schedule of the first STA in response to the information request frame.

12. A station (STA) comprising:

a processor; and

a transceiver functionally coupled to the processor and transmitting and receiving a frame,

wherein the processor receives from an access point (AP) an information response frame including a wakeup schedule of a destination STA which is a target of frame transmission, and transmits a data frame to the destination STA according to the wakeup schedule.

13. The STA of claim 12, wherein the information response frame includes a requested information element field, and the requested information element field includes a wakeup schedule information element of the destination STA.

The STA of claim 13, wherein the wakeup scheduling information element includes a length field indicating a length of the wakeup schedule information element, a start time field indicating a start time at which the destination STA initially operates in a wakeup state in a beacon interval, and a sleep interval field indicating an interval of a duration in which the plurality of destination STAs existing in the beacon interval remain in the wakeup state.

15. The STA of claim 14, wherein if the destination STA operates in an active mode, the length field of the wakeup schedule information element of the information response frame is set to 0.
