Abstract

A multi-radio mobile device comprises a plurality of different radios. When a location update occurs, the multi-radio mobile device, at a specific location, acquires location-based radio information from a remote location server. The multi-radio mobile device selects a radio for use in the specific location based on the acquired location-based radio information comprising available radios in the specific location and radio weights. The radio is selected from the available radios based on the radio weights in the specific location. Transmissions of a desired service are received in the specific location utilizing the selected radio. Location-based radio measurements reports to the remote location server are generated utilizing signal strength measurements for the received signals. Radio quality information of the available radios is calculated by the location server utilizing location-based radio measurement reports from associated users. The radio weights of the available radios are determined based on the calculated radio quality information.

Claims

1. A method for communication, the method comprising:

performing by one or more processors and/or circuits in a multi-radio mobile device that comprises a plurality of different radios;

acquiring location-based radio information for a specific location of said multi-radio mobile device; and

selecting, from said plurality of different radios, a radio for use in said specific location based on said acquired location-based radio information.

2. The method according to claim 1, wherein said acquired location-based radio information comprises available radios in said specific location, and corresponding radio weights in said specific location.

3. The method according to claim 2, comprising selecting said radio from said available radios based on said corresponding radio weights in said specific location.

4. The method according to claim 3, comprising receiving, at said specific location, signals of a desired service utilizing said selected radio.

5. The method according to claim 4, comprising measuring, at said specific location, a signal strength of said received signals of said desired service over said selected radio.

6. The method according to claim 5, comprising generating a location-based radio measurement report for said selected radio utilizing said signal strength measurements in said specific location, information on said selected radio in said specific location, and information on said specific location of said multi-radio mobile device.

7. The method according to claim 1, comprising receiving a location update of said multi-radio mobile device from a remote location server.

8. The method according to claim 7, comprising communicating said generated location-based radio measurement report to said remote location server.

9. The method according to claim 8, wherein said remote location server receives a plurality of location-based radio measurement reports corresponding to said specific location of said multi-radio mobile device from a plurality of mobile devices.

10. The method according to claim 9, wherein said remote location server calculates radio quality information of said available radios in said specific location of said multi-radio mobile device utilizing said received plurality of location-based radio measurement reports.

11. The method according to claim 10, wherein said remote location server determines said radio weights of said available radios in said specific location based on said calculated radio quality information.

12. A system for communication, the system comprising:

one or more processors and/or circuits for use in a multi-radio mobile device, said one or more processors and/or circuits being operable to;

acquire location-based radio information for a specific location of said multi-radio mobile device; and

select a radio, from said plurality of different radios, for use in said specific location based on said acquired location-based radio information.

13. The system according to claim 12, wherein said acquired location-based radio information comprises available radios in said specific location, and corresponding radio weights in said specific location.

14. The system according to claim 13, wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to select said radio from said available radios based on said corresponding radio weights in said specific location.

15. The system according to claim 14, wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to receive, at said specific location, signals of a desired service utilizing said selected radio.

16. The system according to claim 15, wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to measure, at said specific location, a signal strength of said received signals of said desired service over said selected radio.

17. The system according to claim 16, wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to generate a location-based radio measurement report for said selected radio utilizing said signal strength measurements in said specific location, information on said selected radio in said specific location, and information on said specific location of said multi-radio mobile device.

18. The system according to claim 12, wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to receive a location update of said multi-radio mobile device from a remote location server.

19. The system according to claim 18, wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to communicate said generated location-based radio measurement report to said remote location server.

20. The system according to claim 19, wherein said remote location server receives a plurality of location-based radio measurement reports corresponding to said specific location of said multi-radio mobile device from a plurality of mobile devices.

21. The system according to claim 20, wherein said remote location server calculates radio quality information of said available radios in said specific location of said multi-radio mobile device utilizing said received plurality of location-based radio measurement reports.

22. The system according to claim 21, wherein said remote location server determines said radio weights of said available radios in said specific location based on said calculated radio quality information.
