Abstract

A radiopharmaceutical containment or pig, in certain embodiments, may include a plurality of cavities or chambers to accommodate a syringe and other medical devices. For example, a syringe may be housed in a first chamber of the radiopharmaceutical containment, and a tube coupled to the syringe may be housed in a second chamber and extractable via a passage in the radiopharmaceutical containment. In some embodiments, a user may extract a radiopharmaceutical from the radiopharmaceutical containment without having to remove the syringe from the containment. The radiopharmaceutical containment may include radiation shielding, an aperture to enable a ram of a power injector to engage or interact with a syringe inside the containment, a movable shutter over the aperture, various labels, and/or an integral storage compartment.

Claims

1. A fluid delivery system, comprising:

a containment comprising a body, wherein said body comprises first and second chambers and a passage that extends between said first and second chambers;

a first syringe disposed within said first chamber; and

a first conduit comprising first and second conduit sections, wherein said first conduit section is interconnected with said first syringe, wherein said first conduit extends through said passage, and wherein said second conduit section is disposed within said second chamber and is fluidly interconnected with said first conduit section.

11. The fluid delivery system of claim 1, wherein said first conduit contains a first fluid, wherein said first syringe contains a second fluid, and wherein said first and second fluids are different.

13. The fluid delivery system of claim 11, further comprising a valve disposed within said first conduit to maintain a separated state between said first and second fluids until operation of said first syringe is initiated.

15. The fluid delivery system of claim 1, further comprising first shielding associated with said first chamber, wherein said first shielding extends 360°

about said first chamber, and wherein said first shielding comprises radiological shielding.

18. The fluid delivery system of claim 1, further comprising a cap detachably interconnected with said body of said containment, wherein said body of said containment comprises a necked end portion that coincides with an end of said second chamber, wherein said cap is mounted on said necked end portion, and wherein said cap selectively closes an open end of said second chamber.

23. The fluid delivery system of claim 18, wherein one end of said second conduit section of said first conduit is removably coupled to said cap.

25. The fluid delivery system of claim 18, wherein said second conduit section engages a surface of said cap that interfaces with said second chamber when said cap is mounted on said body of said containment.

28. The fluid delivery system of claim 1, wherein said first and second chambers are spaced along a longitudinal axis of said containment, and wherein at least part of said passage proceeds other than collinear with said longitudinal axis and also other than parallel with said longitudinal axis.

29. The fluid delivery system of claim 28, wherein said passage comprises a first passage section that extends from said first chamber along said longitudinal axis of said containment, a second passage section that extends from said first passage section and away from said longitudinal axis, and a third passage section that extends from said second passage section such that said second passage section is disposed between said first and third passage sections.

32. The fluid delivery system of claim 28, wherein said containment further comprises first and second shielding, wherein said first shielding is associated with and disposed about said first chamber and comprises radiological shielding, and wherein said second shielding is disposed about said passage and comprises radiological shielding.

35. The fluid delivery system of claim 1, wherein said containment further comprises:

an access aperture for said body;

a shutter movable relative to said body between first and second shutter positions, wherein said shutter blocks said access aperture when in said first shutter position, and wherein said shutter exposes said access aperture to an interior of said body when in said second shutter position; and

first shielding associated with said first chamber, wherein said first chamber is aligned with said access aperture.

36. The fluid delivery system of claim 35, wherein said first syringe comprises a plunger, and wherein said access aperture is adapted to accept a ram of an injection device for moving said shutter into a position so as to be able to interact with said plunger of said first syringe.

37. The fluid delivery system of claim 35, further comprising:

a label that blocks said access aperture of said containment, wherein said first syringe comprises a plunger, and wherein said label is adapted to be ruptured by a ram of an injection device so as to be able to interact with said plunger of said first syringe.

38. The fluid delivery system of claim 37, wherein said label comprises a least one of radiological shielding and being configured to store information relating to a radiopharmaceutical within said containment.

45. The fluid delivery system of claim 35, further comprising a biasing member that interacts with said shutter to bias said shutter into said first shutter position.

46. The fluid delivery system of claim 1, further comprising:

an access aperture for said body;

first shielding associated with said first chamber, wherein said first chamber is aligned with said access aperture; and

a label that blocks said access aperture of said containment, wherein said first syringe comprises a plunger, and wherein said label is adapted to be ruptured by a ram of an injection device so as to be able to interact with said plunger of said first syringe.

47. The fluid delivery system of claim 1, wherein said body of said containment further comprises a first storage compartment that is isolated from said first chamber.

48. The fluid delivery system of claim 47, further comprising at least one fluid delivery component stored within said first storage compartment, wherein said containment further comprises an access door for said first storage compartment, and wherein said access door is movable relative to said body between open and closed positions.

53. The fluid delivery system of claim 1, wherein said body comprises first and second body sections that are movably interconnected, wherein said fluid delivery system further comprises a hinge between said first and second body sections, and wherein said first and second body sections are movable relative to each other between open and closed positions.

56. The fluid delivery system of claim 53, wherein said containment comprises a longitudinal axis, and wherein said first and second body sections are movable relative to each other at least generally about an axis that is parallel with said longitudinal axis of said containment.

57. The fluid delivery system of claim 53, further comprising:

a label secured to said body of said containment and disposed over a junction between said first and second body sections when said containment is in a closed configuration.

60. The fluid delivery system of claim 1, wherein said body comprises a third chamber, and wherein said fluid delivery system further comprises a second syringe disposed within said third chamber.

61. The fluid delivery system of claim 60, wherein said first and second syringes discharge into a common conduit.

62. The fluid delivery system of claim 1, wherein said containment comprises a positional registration member, and wherein said positional registration member is on an exterior of said body of said containment.

64. The fluid delivery system of claim 1, further comprising a power injector, wherein operation of said power injector provides a discharge from said containment.

65. A method for delivering a fluid, comprising:

transporting a shielded containment in a closed configuration, wherein a syringe is disposed within said containment and comprises a syringe plunger and a radiological fluid.

installing said shielded containment on a power injector after said transporting step, wherein said power injector comprises a syringe plunger driver;

advancing said syringe plunger driver;

interacting said syringe plunger driver with said syringe plunger using said advancing step;

moving said syringe plunger after said interacting step and using said syringe plunger driver; and

discharging said radiological fluid from said shielded containment using said moving step.

66. The method of claim 65, further comprising:

positioning said syringe in said shielded containment before said installing step.

67. The method of claim 66, wherein said shielded containment remains closed throughout said installing step.

68. The method of claim 65, further comprising:

removing injection peripherals from a compartment of said shielded containment prior to at least said interacting step.

69. The method of claim 65, further comprising:

extracting tubing from within said shielded containment prior to at least said interacting step, wherein said tubing is fluidly interconnected with said syringe prior to said installing step.

70. The method of claim 65, further comprising:

reading information stored on said shielded containment prior to initiating said advancing step.

71. The method of claim 65, further comprising:

opening an access to said shielded containment using said advancing step, wherein said interacting step is executed after said opening step.

72. The method of claim 71, wherein said opening step comprises said syringe plunger driver puncturing a label that blocks said access.

73. The method of claim 71, wherein said opening step comprises said syringe plunger driver displacing a shutter that blocks said access.

76. The method of claim 73, further comprising:

withdrawing said syringe plunger driver out of an interior of said shielded containment; and

moving said shutter back to a closed position using at least one biasing member.

79. A fluid delivery system, comprising:

a containment comprising;

a body comprising first and second ends that are spaced along a longitudinal axis;

a first chamber disposed within said body;

first shielding associated with said first chamber;

a second chamber disposed within said body and spaced from said first chamber along said longitudinal axis; and

a passage that is disposed within said body, and that extends between said first and second chambers, wherein at least part of said passage proceeds other than collinear with said longitudinal axis and also other than parallel with said longitudinal axis.

80. A fluid delivery system, comprising:

a containment comprising;

a body comprising an access aperture;

a shutter movable relative to said body between first and second shutter positions, wherein said shutter blocks said access aperture when in said first shutter position, and wherein said shutter exposes said access aperture to an interior of said body when in said second shutter position;

a first chamber disposed within said body in alignment with said access aperture; and

first shielding associated with said first chamber.

81. A fluid delivery system, comprising:

a containment comprising;

a body;

a first chamber disposed within said body;

first shielding associated with said first chamber; and

a first storage compartment within said body and isolated from said first chamber.
