Abstract

Methods, systems, and apparatus transferring power between the grid and an electric vehicle are disclosed. The apparatus may include at least one vehicle communication port for interfacing with electric vehicle equipment (EVE) and a processor coupled to the at least one vehicle communication port to establish communication with the EVE, receive EVE attributes from the EVE, and transmit electric vehicle station equipment (EVSE) attributes to the EVE. Power may be transferred between the grid and the electric vehicle by maintaining EVSE attributes, establishing communication with the EVE, and transmitting the EVSE maintained attributes to the EVE.

Claims

1. A method for transferring power between the grid and an electric vehicle, the apparatus comprising:

maintaining, by electric vehicle station equipment (EVSE), EVSE attributes;

establishing, by EVSE, communication with electric vehicle equipment (EVE); and

transmitting, by EVSE, the EVSE maintained attributes to the EVE.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving EVE attributes from the EVE.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

energizing a connector positioned between the EVE and the grid.

4. The method of claim 3, further comprising:

determining if payment is required;

wherein the energizing step energizes the connector if payment is not required.

5. The method of claim 4, further comprising:

determining if payment has been authorized; and

wherein the energizing step energizes the connector if payment is required and payment is authorized.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

recording usage of EVSE by the EVE; and

transmitting the recorded usage to an electric charging vendor.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

entering EVSE attributes along with authorization codes to restrict or enable specific electrical services only by approved vehicles, only when authorized via employee ID and encryption to provide tamper-resistance.

8. A system for transferring power between the grid and an electric vehicle, the apparatus comprising:

means for maintaining electric vehicle station equipment (EVSE) attributes;

means for establishing communication with electric vehicle equipment (EVE); and

means for transmitting the EVSE maintained attributes to the EVE.

9. The system of claim 8, further comprising:

means for receiving EVE attributes from the EVE.

10. The system of claim 9, further comprising:

means for energizing a contactor positioned between the EVE and the grid.

11. The system of claim 10, further comprising:

means for determining if payment is required;

wherein the means for energizing energizes the contactor if payment is not required.

12. The system of claim 11, further comprising:

means for determining if payment has been authorized; and

wherein the means for energizing energizes the contactor if payment is required and payment is authorized.

13. The system of claim 8, further comprising:

means for recording usage of the EVSE by the EVE; and

means for transmitting the recorded usage to an electric charging vendor.

14. The system of claim 8, further comprising:

means for entering EVSE attributes along with authorization codes to restrict or enable specific electrical services only by approved vehicles, only when authorized via employee ID and encryption to provide tamper-resistance.

15. An apparatus for transferring power between the grid and an electric vehicle, the apparatus comprising:

at least one vehicle communication port for interfacing with electric vehicle equipment (EVE);

a processor coupled to the at least one vehicle communication port, the processor configured to establish communication with the EVE via the at least one communication port, receive EVE attributes from the EVE, and transmit electric vehicle station equipment (EVSE) attributes to the EVE.

16. The apparatus of claim 15, further comprising a memory coupled to the processor, the processor configured to store and maintain the EVSE attributes in the memory.

17. The apparatus of claim 15, further comprising:

a contactor operably coupled to the processor, the contactor having a first side coupled to the at least one vehicle communication port and a second side for coupling to the grid;

wherein the processor is further configured to operate the connector to selectively couple the at least one vehicle communication port to the grid.

18. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein the processor is configured to determine if payment is required and to energize the connector if payment is not required.

19. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the processor is further configured to determine if payment has been authorized and to energize the connector if payment is required and payment is authorized.

20. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the processor is further configured to record usage of the EVSE by the EVE and to transmit the recorded usage to an electric charging vendor.

21. The apparatus of claim 15, further comprising:

a transformer to match power received from the EVE to loads of a building when activated by the EVSE for emergency power; and

at least one contactor connected to the processor, the at least one contactor positioned to couple the received power to the building in response to a signal from the processor.
