METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR UPDATING OBSOLETE RECORDS FOR REFERENCE POSITIONS IN A REFERENCE POSITION DATABASE

Abstract

A mobile device communicates position samples of one or more reference position with respect to one or more other communication device such as access points to a location server communicatively coupled to a reference database. The location server determines whether to utilize the one or more reference position in the reference position database based on the communicated samples. The mobile device scans the position samples, which indicate position information of the one or more other communication device and/or whether the position information is reliable for use. The scanned position samples are accumulated and transmitted to the location server. The location server updates records for the one or more reference positions with respect to the one or more other communication device in the reference position database based on the accumulated position samples received. The updated records are utilized to determine a fast position fix for the position device.

Claims

1. A method for communication, the method comprising:

performing by one or more processors and/or circuits in a mobile device;

communicating to a location server, position samples of one or more reference positions for said mobile device with respect to one or more other communication device, wherein said location server determines whether to utilize said one or more reference positions in a position database communicatively coupled to said location server based on said communicated samples.

The method according to claim 1, comprising scanning said position samples of said one or more reference positions for said mobile device with respect to said one or more other communication device, wherein said scanned position samples indicate position information of said one or more other communication device.

3. The method according to claim 2, wherein said scanned position samples of said one or more reference positions indicate whether said position information of said one or more other communication device is reliable for use.

4. The method according to claim 3, comprising accumulating said scanned position samples of said one or more reference positions.

5. The method according to claim 4, comprising transmitting said accumulated position samples of said one or more reference positions to said location server.

6. The method according to claim 5, wherein said location server updates records for said one or more reference positions with respect to said one or more other communication device in said reference position database based on said accumulated position samples of said one or more reference positions.

7. The method according to claim 6, wherein said location server removes said one or more other communication device from said reference position database based on said updated records.

8. The method according to claim 6, wherein said location server utilizes said one or more other communication device in said reference position database based on said updated records.

9. The method according to claim 6, wherein said location server determines whether said one or more other communication device in said reference position database are fix-positioned or moving based on said updated records.

10. The method according to claim 6, comprising determining a position fix for said mobile device based on said updated records.

11. A system for communication, the system comprising:

one or more processors and/or circuits in a mobile device, wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to communicate to a location server, position samples of one or more reference positions for said mobile device with respect to one or more other communication device, wherein said location server determines whether to utilize said one or more reference positions in a position database communicatively coupled to said location server based on said communicated samples.

The system according to claim 11, wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to scan said position samples of said one or more reference positions for said mobile device with respect to said one or more other communication device, wherein said scanned position samples indicate position information of said one or more other communication device.

13. The system according to claim 12, wherein said scanned position samples of said one or more reference positions indicate whether said position information of said one or more other communication device is reliable for use.

14. The system according to claim 13, wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to accumulate said scanned position samples of said one or more reference positions.

15. The system according to claim 14, wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to transmit said accumulated position samples of said one or more reference positions to said location server.

16. The system according to claim 15, wherein said location server updates records for said one or more reference positions with respect to said one or more other communication device in said reference position database based on said accumulated position samples of said one or more reference positions.

17. The system according to claim 16, wherein said location server removes said one or more other communication device from said reference position database based on said updated records.

18. The system according to claim 16, wherein said location server utilizes said one or more other communication device in said reference position database based on said updated records.

19. The system according to claim 16, wherein said location server determines whether said one or more other communication device in said reference position database are fix-positioned or moving based on said updated records.

20. The system according to claim 16, wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to determine a position fix for said mobile device based on said updated records.
