Abstract

Disclosed is a status report transmission of the PDCP layer for a PDCP status report which can reduce radio resources, by transmitting the reception success or failure of a series of PDCP SDUs in the form of a bitmap when configuring the PDCP status report for reporting a reception status of the PDCP SDU to another party in the PDCP layer in the LTE system.

13. A method for transmitting a status report of Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) layer in a mobile communications system, in a method for transmitting, by a receiving side PDCP layer, a status report for a series of data to a transmitting side PDCP layer, the method comprising:

determining, by the receiving side PDCP layer, a reception status of the series of data, wherein the series of data are PDCP Service Data Units (SDUs);

generating, by the receiving side PDCP layer, a reception status report for the PDCP SDUs indicating whether or not each data of the series of data has been successfully received at the receiving side PDCP layer, wherein the reception status report is included in PDCP Protocol Data Unit (PDU) and transmitted in the form of a bitmap including sequence number (SN) information of the PDCP SDUs indicating whether or not the PDCP SDUs have successfully been received; and

transmitting, by the receiving side PDCP layer, the reception status report to the transmitting side.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the reception status report is transmitted by the PDCP PDU, the format of PDCP PDU includes a bitmap field and a field including SN information on a PDCP SDU corresponding to a first or a last bit of the bitmap field.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the format of the PDCP PDU further includes a D/C field, a PDU type field, the PDCP PDU being configured by arranging the fields in an order of the D/C field, the PDU type field, the field including the SN information of the PDCP SDU, and the bitmap field.

16. The method of claim 13, wherein the receiving side PDCP layer transmits the PDCP PDU including the reception status report for the PDCP SDUs to the transmitting side, such that the transmitting side is able to transmit or retransmit the series of data.

17. The method of claim 13, wherein the format of the PDCP PDU is a PDCP data PDU or a PDCP control PDU depending on a value of the D/C field.

The method of claim 15, wherein the D/C field indicates whether the format of PDCP PDU is a PDCP data PDU or a PDCP control PDU, the PDU type field indicates a type of control information, the bitmap field is configured with indicators indicating whether a reception of each of the PDCP SDUs is a success or a failure, and the field including the SN information of the PDCP SDU corresponding to the first or last bit of the bitmap field is a First Sequence Number (FSN) field or a Last Sequence Number (LSN) field.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the FSN field indicates a sequence number (SN) of the PDCP SDU corresponding to the first bit of the bitmap field, and the FSN field indicates SN of a first missing PDCP SDU.

20. The method of claim 15, wherein the format of the PDCP PDU further comprises a length field, wherein the length field includes information indicating a length of the bitmap field, and the bitmap field does not exist if the value of the length field is ‘

0’

21. The method of claim 18, wherein each of the indicators is configured with a single bit, and a value of the single bit is set to ‘

0’

or ‘

1’

so as to indicate whether or not a corresponding PDCP SDU is successfully received.

22. A receiver in a mobile communications system comprising:

a communication module which determines whether or not PDCP SDUs received via a Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) layer have successfully been received,

generates a reception status report for the received PDCP SDUs indicating whether or not each data of the series of data has been successfully received at the receiving side PDCP layer, wherein the reception status report is generated in the form of a bitmap including sequence number (SN) information of the PDCP SDUs indicating whether or not the PDCP SDUs have successfully been received, and

transmits the reception status report included in PDCP Protocol Data Unit (PDU) to a transmitting side, such that the transmitting side is able to transmit or retransmit a series of data or PDCP SDUs determined as not having been successfully received,

wherein the PDCP PDU comprises a D/C field, a PDU type field, a bitmap field, and a field including Sequence Number (SN) information of a PDCP SDU corresponding to a first or a last bit of the bitmap field, the PDCP PDU being configured by arranging the fields in an order of the D/C field, the PDU type field, the field including the SN information of the PDCP SDU, and the bitmap field.

The receiver of claim 22, wherein the D/C field indicates whether a format of the PDCP PDU is a PDCP data PDU or a PDCP control PDU, the PDU type field indicates a type of control information, the bitmap field is configured with indicators indicating whether a reception of each of the PDCP SDUs is a success or a failure, and the field including the SN information of the PDCP SDU corresponding to the first or last bit of the bitmap field is a First Sequence Number (FSN) field or a Last Sequence Number (LSN) field, and wherein the FSN field indicates a sequence number (SN) of the PDCP SDU corresponding to the first bit of the bitmap field and the LSN field indicates a sequence number (SN) of the PDCP SDU corresponding to the last bit of the bitmap field.
