Abstract

A waste water insert has a wall surrounding a vertical bore. A horizontal flange extends outwardly from the upper end of the wall and has a lip formed on its outer periphery. The horizontal flange of the waste water insert is super-imposed over the horizontal flange of a waste water strainer located in a bathtub, sink or the like. The wall of the insert extends downwardly through the cylindrical wall of the waste water strainer with the two walls being spaced from each other by virtue of the cylindrical wall of the insert having a smaller diameter than that of the strainer.

Claims

1. A waste water insert adapted to be associated with a strainer that includes a strainer wall having an inner surface of a first diameter, comprising:

a flange;

an insert wall having an outer surface of a second diameter extending from said flange, said insert wall adapted to be spaced from said strainer wall; and

an enlarged seal that extends along said outer surface of said insert wall.

2. The device of claim 1 wherein said enlarged seal is made of a resilient material.

3. The device of claim 1 wherein said insert wall is devoid of grooves.

4. The device of claim 1 wherein said enlarged seal extends from a lower surface of said flange to a lowermost portion of said insert.

5. The device of claim 1 wherein said enlarged seal contacts a majority of said outer surface of said insert wall.

6. The device of claim 1 wherein said enlarged seal possesses a tapered surface.

7. The device of claim 1 wherein said flange of said insert is adapted to rest on a flange of the strainer wherein said insert wall extends downwardly into an opening defined by said strainer and said enlarged seal is adapted to be positioned within the space provided between said insert wall and the strainer wall.

In combination with a fluid compartment having a bottom with a waste water strainer mounted in said bottom, said strainer having a first wall with a bottom edge surrounding an opening extending through the bottom of said compartment, and a first flange extending outwardly from a level above and adjacent to said opening and positioned on the bottom of said compartment:

a waste water insert comprising a second wall, said second wall defining a cylindrical bore and having an upper end with a second flange extending therefrom; and

an enlarged seal that extends along said outer surface of said second wall.

9. The combination of claim 8 wherein said enlarged seal is made of a resilient material.

10. The combination of claim 8 wherein said second wall is devoid of grooves.

11. The combination of claim 8 wherein said enlarged seal extends from a lower surface of said flange to a lowermost portion of said insert.

12. The combination of claim 8 wherein said enlarged seal contacts a majority of said outer surface of said second wall.

13. The combination of claim 8 wherein said enlarged seal has a tapered surface.

14. The combination of claim 8 wherein said second flange rests on the first flange and wherein said second wall extends downwardly into said opening defined by said first wall and wherein said enlarged seal is adapted to be positioned within the space provided between said first wall and said second wall.

15. The combination of claim 8, wherein said second flange includes a lip that covers a portion of an outer edge of the first flange.

16. A waste water insert adapted to be associated with a strainer mounted in a fluid compartment, comprising:

a downwardly extending wall that surrounds an opening, said downwardly extending wall having a diameter less than a diameter of a cylindrical wall of a waste water strainer that is adapted to receive said insert, said downwardly extending wall extending into an opening of said waste water strainer;

a circular flange extending outwardly from said central opening superimposable over a flange of the waste water strainer, said flange adapted to rest on the flange of said waste water strainer; and

an enlarged seal that extends along an outer surface of said downwardly extending wall.

17. The combination of claim 16 wherein said enlarged seal extends from a lower surface of said flange to a lowermost portion of said insert.

18. The combination of claim 16 wherein said enlarged seal possesses a tapered surface.

19. The waste water insert of claim 16 wherein said fluid compartment comprises a tub or a sink.

20. The waste water insert of claim 16 wherein said circular flange has an outer edge that comprises a downwardly extending lip.

21. The waste water insert of claim 16 wherein said downwardly extending wall is centered within the wall of the waste water strainer.

22. A waste water insert adapted to be associated with a strainer that includes a strainer wall having an inner surface of a first diameter, comprising:

a flange;

a wall spaced from said wall of said strainer, said wall comprised of a first cylindrical portion interconnected to said flange, and a second cylindrical portion, said first portion and said second portion being separated by a transition wherein said first cylindrical portion has a diameter larger than said second cylindrical portion.

23. The waste water insert of claim 22 further comprising an enlarged seal that extends along said outer surface of said insert wall.

24. A device for concealing a flange of a waste water strainer, where the strainer includes an outwardly-extending flange and a downwardly-extending wall having an inner surface of a first diameter, comprising:

a wall having a first portion and a second portion with a transitional portion therebetween, said first portion having a diameter greater than a diameter of said second portion and a flange on said upper end extending outwardly from said wall; and

the wall of said insert being spaced from a wall of said strainer wherein said first portion being closer to said wall of said strainer than said second portion.

25. A device of claim 24 further comprising a resilient ring associated with said wall of said insert that is also adapted to engage said cylindrical wall of said strainer.

26. The waste water insert of claim 24 further comprising an enlarged seal that extends along said outer surface of said insert wall.

27. The device of claim 26 wherein said enlarged seal is made of a resilient material.

28. The device of claim 24 wherein said insert wall is devoid of grooves.

29. The device of claim 26 wherein said enlarged seal extends from a lower surface of said flange to a lowermost portion of said insert.

30. The device of claim 26 wherein said enlarged seal contacts a majority of said outer surface of said insert wall.

31. The device of claim 26 wherein said enlarged seal possesses a tapered surface.

32. The device of claim 26 wherein said flange of said insert is adapted to rest on a flange of the strainer wherein said insert wall extends downwardly into an opening defined by said strainer and said enlarged seal is adapted to be positioned within the space provided between said insert wall and the strainer wall.
