Abstract

A mold for producing a soft contact lens, wherein the mold is capable of forming both front and rear surfaces of the lens from a surface of the mold during polymerization of a monomer composition.

24. A silicone hydrogel contact lens having a surface contact angle in a range of 10-50 degrees by the captive bubble method in water and less than 110 degrees by the sessile drop method in air, an oxygen permeability having a Dk value of about 60 or more, and a water content of at least 10% by weight, wherein the silicone hydrogel contact lens comprises units of monomers including a polysiloxane monomer, and an amide monomer containing an N-vinyl group.

25. The silicone hydrogel contact lens of claim 24, wherein the silicone hydrogel further comprises units of monomers including monomers containing a hydroxyl group, or methacrylamide monomers, or combinations thereof.

26. The silicone hydrogel contact lens of claim 25, wherein the silicone hydrogel comprises units of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, units of N,N′

-dimethylacrylamide, or combinations thereof.

27. The silicone hydrogel contact lens of claim 24, wherein the amide monomer containing an N-vinyl group comprises N-vinyl-N-methylacetamide, or N-vinylpyrrolidone.

28. The silicone hydrogel contact lens of claim 24, in which the surface contact angle as determined by the captive bubble method in water is at least 17 degrees.

29. The silicone hydrogel contact lens of claim 24, in which the water content is from 10% to about 46% by weight.

30. The silicone hydrogel contact lens of claim 24 which is a molded contact lens.

31. The silicone hydrogel contact lens of claim 30 which is obtained from a mold comprising a resin having a contact angle to water of no greater than 90 degrees by the sessile drop method.

32. The silicone hydrogel contact lens of claim 30, wherein the surface of the contact lens has not been modified by applying plasma treatment, ozone treatment, or graft polymerization.

33. The silicone hydrogel contact lens of claim 24, wherein the polysiloxane monomer is a monomer shown by formula (1)

34. The silicone hydrogel of claim 24, wherein the polysiloxane monomer is a monomer shown by formula (16)

35. The silicone hydrogel contact lens of claim 24 which comprises a copolymer obtained from a composition comprising 10-99% by weight of the polysiloxane monomer and 1-90% by weight of an amide monomer.

36. The silicone hydrogel contact lens of claim 24, wherein the surface contact angle is in a range of 30-90 degrees by the by the sessile drop method in air.

37. The silicone hydrogel contact lens of claim 24, wherein the amide monomer containing an N-vinyl group is hydrophilic.

38. The silicone hydrogel contact lens of claim 24, wherein the contact lens is manufactured by a polymerization in a mold, wherein a mold material is insoluble to a composition of polymerizable monomers and at least one side of the mold for forming a lens surface has a polar group.
