Method and System for Selective Application of Cellular-PBX Integration Service
First Claim
1. A method comprising:
- receiving into a cellular radio access network (RAN) a call request seeking to set up a call for a cellular wireless communication device (WCD) that is operating in a wireless coverage area of the RAN, wherein the call is a call to a called party;
responsively making a determination of whether the WCD is currently checked-into a cellular-PBX integration service to which the WCD subscribes;
if the determination is that the WCD is currently checked-into the cellular-PBX integration service, then setting up the call to an IP PBX server that serves the WCD; and
if the determination is that the WCD is not currently checked-into the cellular-PBX integration service, then setting up the call to the called party without setting up the call to the IP PBX server,the method further comprising maintaining a subscriber profile record for the WCD, wherein the subscriber profile record includes an indication of whether the WCD is currently checked-into or checked-out of the cellular-PBX integration service,wherein making the determination of whether the WCD is currently checked-into the cellular-PBX integration service comprises referring to the subscriber profile record to determine whether the WCD is currently checked-into or checked-out of the cellular PBX integration service.

Abstract
A method and system for selectively applying a cellular-PBX integration service. When a radio access network (RAN) receives a call request seeking to set up a call for a cellular wireless communication device (WCD) that is operating in the coverage area of the RAN, a determination is made as to whether the WCD is currently checked-into a cellular-PBX integration service. A service control point (SCP), for instance, may make the determination. If the determination is that the WCD is currently checked-in, then the call is set up to an IP PBX server that services the WCD, and the IP PBX server may then handle the call as it would handle a call placed to any IP PBX extension. Further, differential billing can be applied, charging an enterprise billing-account for the call if the WCD is checked-in, and charging a WCD billing-account for the call if the WCD is not checked-in.

17. A method comprising:
-
receiving into a cellular radio access network (RAN) a call request seeking to set up a call for a cellular wireless communication device (WCD) that is operating in a wireless coverage area of the RAN, wherein the call is a call to a called party; receiving together with the call request a directive of whether or not to apply cellular-PBX integration service for the call; responsively making a determination of whether the WCD is currently checked-into a cellular-PBX integration service to which the WCD subscribes, wherein if the directive is to apply cellular-PBX integration service for the call, then the determination is that the WCD is checked into the cellular-PBX integration service, and if the directive is to not apply cellular-PBX integration service for the call, then the determination is that the WCD is not currently checked-into the cellular-PBX integration service; if the determination is that the WCD is currently checked-into the cellular-PBX integration service, then setting up the call to an IP PBX server that serves the WCD; and if the determination is that the WCD is not currently checked-into the cellular-PBX integration service, then setting up the call to the called party without setting up the call to the IP PBX server. - View Dependent Claims (18)

19. A system comprising:
-
a cellular radio access network (RAN) comprising a base station that radiates to produce a wireless coverage area; subscriber profile data indicating whether a cellular wireless communication device (WCD) is currently checked-into or checked-out of a cellular-PBX integration service to which the WCD subscribes; a media gateway system; a call session control function (CSCF) arranged to engage in signaling communication with the media gateway system; and an IP PBX server arranged to serve a plurality of enterprise telephone stations that are situated on an enterprise packet-switched network, the IP PBX server being further arranged to engage in signaling communication with the CSCF and bearer communication with the media gateway system, wherein the RAN receives a request to set up a call for the WCD when the WCD is operating in the wireless coverage area and, responsive to the profile data indicating that WCD is currently checked-into the cellular-PBX integration service, the RAN sets up the call to the media gateway system for connection of the call in turn to the IP PBX server.
