Abstract

A viewing system for viewing video displays having the appearance of a three dimensional image.

Claims

1. A method of synchronizing the operation of 3D glasses having left and right shutters with a display device, comprising:

initially synchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device; and

periodically resynchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein initially synchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device comprises:

transmitting a signal from the display device to the 3D glasses that comprises one or more synchronization pulses.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein initially synchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device comprises:

transmitting a signal from the display device to the 3D glasses that comprises information representative of the type of the display device.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein initially synchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device comprises:

transmitting a signal from the display device to the 3D glasses that comprises information representative of an opening and closing sequence of the left and right shutters.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein initially synchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device comprises:

transmitting a signal from the display device to the 3D glasses that comprises information representative of an operating frequency of the images displayed on the display device.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein initially synchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device comprises:

transmitting a signal from the display device to the 3D glasses that comprises one or more synchronization pulses;

transmitting a signal from the display device to the 3D glasses that comprises information representative of the type of the display device;

transmitting a signal from the display device to the 3D glasses that comprises information representative of an opening and closing sequence of the left and right shutters; and

transmitting a signal from the display device to the 3D glasses that comprises information representative of an operating frequency of the images displayed on the display device.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein periodically resynchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device comprises:

transmitting a signal from the display device to the 3D glasses that comprises one or more synchronization pulses.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein periodically resynchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device comprises:

transmitting a signal from the display device to the 3D glasses that comprises information representative of a time of transmission of the signal.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein periodically resynchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device comprises:

transmitting a signal from the display device to the 3D glasses that comprises information representative of a time delay of the transmission of the signal.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein periodically resynchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device comprises:

transmitting a signal from the display device to the 3D glasses that comprises one or more synchronization pulses;

transmitting a signal from the display device to the 3D glasses that comprises information representative of a time of transmission of the signal; and

transmitting a signal from the display device to the 3D glasses that comprises information representative of a time delay of the transmission of the signal.

11. The method of claim 9, further comprising:

the 3D glasses using the time delay of the transmission of the signal to resynchrdnize the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device.

12. A method of operating 3D glasses having left and right shutters, comprising:

initially synchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of a display device; and

periodically resynchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein initially synchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device comprises:

the 3D glasses receiving a signal from the display device that comprises one or more synchronization pulses.

14. The method of claim 12, wherein initially synchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device comprises:

the 3D glasses receiving a signal from the display device that comprises information representative of the type of the display device.

15. The method of claim 12, wherein initially synchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device comprises:

the 3D glasses receiving a signal from the display device that comprises information representative of an opening and closing sequence of the left and right shutters.

16. The method of claim 12, wherein initially synchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device comprises:

the 3D glasses receiving a signal from the display device that comprises information representative of an operating frequency of the images displayed on the display device.

17. The method of claim 12, wherein initially synchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device comprises:

the 3D glasses receiving a signal from the display device that comprises one or more synchronization pulses;

the 3D glasses receiving a signal from the display device that comprises information representative of the type of the display device;

the 3D glasses receiving a signal from the display device that comprises information representative of an opening and closing sequence of the left and right shutters; and

the 3D glasses receiving a signal from the display device that comprises information representative of an operating frequency of the images displayed on the display device.

18. The method of claim 12, wherein periodically resynchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device comprises:

the 3D glasses receiving a signal from the display device that comprises one or more synchronization pulses.

19. The method of claim 12, wherein periodically resynchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device comprises:

the 3D glasses receiving a signal from the display device that comprises information representative of a time of transmission of the signal.

20. The method of claim 12, wherein periodically resynchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device comprises:

the 3D glasses receiving a signal from the display device that comprises information representative of a time delay of the transmission of the signal.

21. The method of claim 12, wherein periodically resynchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device comprises:

the 3D glasses receiving a signal from the display device that comprises one or more synchronization pulses;

the 3D glasses receiving a signal from the display device that comprises information representative of a time of transmission of the signal; and

the 3D glasses receiving a signal from the display device that comprises information representative of a time delay of the transmission of the signal.

22. The method of claim 20, further comprising:

the 3D glasses using the time delay of the transmission of the signal to resynchronize the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device.

23. A computer readable program product for operating 3D glasses stored on a tangible storage media associated with 3D glasses having left and right shutters, the program product a set of instructions that, when executed by the 3D glasses, cause the 3D glasses to perform the following operations:

initially synchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of a display device; and

periodically resynchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device.

24. The program product of claim 23, wherein initially synchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device comprises:

the 3D glasses receiving a signal from the display device that comprises one or more synchronization pulses.

25. The program product of claim 23, wherein initially synchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device comprises:

the 3D glasses receiving a signal from the display device that comprises information representative of the type of the display device.

26. The program product of claim 23, wherein initially synchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device comprises:

the 3D glasses receiving a signal from the display device that comprises information representative of an opening and closing sequence of the left and right shutters.

27. The program product of claim 23, wherein initially synchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device comprises:

the 3D glasses receiving a signal from the display device that comprises information representative of an operating frequency of the images displayed on the display device.

28. The program product of claim 23, wherein initially synchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device comprises:

the 3D glasses receiving a signal from the display device that comprises one or more synchronization pulses;

the 3D glasses receiving a signal from the display device that comprises information representative of the type of the display device;

the 3D glasses receiving a signal from the display device that comprises information representative of an opening and closing sequence of the left and right shutters; and

the 3D glasses receiving a signal from the display device that comprises information representative of an operating frequency of the images displayed on the display device.

29. The program product of claim 23, wherein periodically resynchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device comprises:

the 3D glasses receiving a signal from the display device that comprises one or more synchronization pulses.

30. The program product of claim 23, wherein periodically resynchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device comprises:

the 3D glasses receiving a signal from the display device that comprises information representative of a time of transmission of the signal.

31. The program product of claim 23, wherein periodically resynchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device comprises:

the 3D glasses receiving a signal from the display device that comprises information representative of a time delay of the transmission of the signal.

32. The program product of claim 23, wherein periodically resynchronizing the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device comprises:

the 3D glasses receiving a signal from the display device that comprises one or more synchronization pulses;

the 3D glasses receiving a signal from the display device that comprises information representative of a time of transmission of the signal; and

the 3D glasses receiving a signal from the display device that comprises information representative of a time delay of the transmission of the signal.

33. The program product of claim 31, further comprising:

the 3D glasses using the time delay of the transmission of the signal to resynchronize the operation of the 3D glasses with the operation of the display device.
