Abstract

A fluid pumping mechanism in one embodiment includes a fluid reservoir, and a multiple layer film extending over a portion of the fluid reservoir, wherein fluid is moved through the reservoir by movement of the film from a first position to a second position, the film including first and second layers, each of first and second layers comprising a blend of a polypropylene and a styrene ethylene butadiene block copolymer. Peritoneal dialysis systems are also provided and may include a peritoneal dialysis machine and a disposable cassette defining at least one pump chamber and having a multiple layer film extending over a portion of the at least one pump chamber, the film including first and second layers, each of the first and second layers comprising a blend of a polypropylene and a styrene ethylene butadiene block copolymer.

Claims

1. A fluid pumping mechanism comprising:

a fluid reservoir; and

a multiple layer film extending over a portion of the fluid reservoir, wherein fluid is moved through the reservoir by movement of the film from a first position to a second position, the film including first and second layers, each of the first and second layers comprising a blend of a polypropylene and a styrene ethylene butadiene block copolymer.

2. The mechanism of claim 1, wherein the fluid reservoir is defined by a frame and the film is attached to the frame.

3. The mechanism of claim 2, wherein the film is attached to the frame by heat sealing.

4. The mechanism of claim 2, wherein the film is attached to the frame by welding.

5. The mechanism of claim 2, wherein the frame is manufactured from polypropylene.

6. The mechanism of claim 1, further comprising a tubing in fluid communication with the reservoir.

7. The mechanism of claim 6, wherein the reservoir is defined by a frame and the tubing is connected to the frame by solvent bonding.

8. The mechanism of claim 1, which is used in a therapy selected from the group consisting of continuous flow peritoneal dialysis, automated peritoneal dialysis, tidal flow peritoneal dialysis, hemofiltration and hemodialysis.

9. A peritoneal dialysis system comprising:

a peritoneal dialysis machine; and

a disposable cassette defining at least one pump chamber and having a multiple layer film extending over a portion of the at least one pump chamber, the peritoneal dialysis machine constructed and arranged to move a fluid through the at least one pump chamber by movement of the film from a first position to a second position, the film including first and second layers, each of the first and second layers comprising a blend of a polypropylene and a styrene ethylene butadiene block copolymer.

10. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 9, wherein the fluid reservoir is defined by a frame and the film is attached to the frame.

11. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 10, wherein the film is attached to the frame by heat sealing.

12. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 10, wherein the film is attached to the frame by welding.

13. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 10, wherein the frame is manufactured from polypropylene.

14. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 9, further comprising a tubing in fluid communication with the reservoir.

15. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 14, wherein the reservoir is defined by a frame and the tubing is connected to the frame by solvent bonding.

16. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 9, which is used in a therapy selected from the group consisting of continuous flow peritoneal dialysis, automated peritoneal dialysis, tidal flow peritoneal dialysis, hemofiltration and hemodialysis.
