Abstract

An ostomy closure is disclosed for sealing an ostomy-pouch after use and removal from an ostomy mounting plate. The ostomy mounting plate is secured to an individual. The ostomy closure comprises a cap body defining an interior surface and an exterior surface extending to a peripheral edge. A cap flange is coupled to the peripheral edge of the cap body and extends from the interior surface of the cap body. A cap locking member is integral to the cap flange. A cap lip defining an interior surface and an exterior surface extends from the cap flange for manipulating the cap body and the cap flange. The cap flange couples with a pouch flange of the ostomy pouch for defining a sealing closure for maintaining the stool and the stool odor within the ostomy chamber and a locking closure for preventing inadvertent removal of the cap flange from the pouch flange.

Claims

1. An ostomy closure for sealing an ostomy pouch after removal from an ostomy mounting plate, the ostomy mounting plate securing to an individual, a plate flange securing to the ostomy mounting plate, a plate locking member integral to the plate flange, a plate orifice positioning within the plate flange and traversing the ostomy mounting plate, the ostomy pouch having a first flexible layer coupling to a second flexible layer for defining an ostomy chamber, a pouch flange securing to the first flexible layer, a pouch locking member integral to the pouch flange, a pouch orifice positioning within the pouch flange and traversing the first flexible layer, the pouch flange engaging with the plate flange and the pouch locking member engaging with the plate locking member for conveying stool from the individual to the ostomy chamber, the pouch flange disengaging with the plate flange for dispose of the stool, the ostomy closure, comprising:

a cap body defining an interior surface and an exterior surface extending to a peripheral edge;

a cap flange coupling to said peripheral edge of said cap body and extending from said interior surface of said cap body;

a cap locking member integral to said cap flange;

a cap lip defining an interior surface and an exterior surface extending from said cap flange for manipulating said cap body and said cap flange;

said cap flange coupling with the pouch flange for positioning said cap body over the pouch orifice and defining a sealing closure;

said sealing closure maintaining the stool and the stool odor within the ostomy chamber;

said cap locking member engaging with the pouch locking member for defining a locking closure; and

said locking closure preventing inadvertent removal of said cap flange from the pouch flange.

2. An ostomy closure for sealing an ostomy pouch as set forth in claim 1, wherein said cap body, said cap flange and said cap lip defining a unitary-one-piece unit constructed from injected molding process.

3. An ostomy closure for sealing an ostomy pouch as set forth in claim 1, wherein said interior surface of said cap lip including an aligning tab positioning adjacent to said cap flange;

and

said aligning tab and said cap flange defining an aligning channel there between for centering said cap flange relative to the pouch flange prior to said cap flange coupling within said pouch flange.

4. An ostomy closure for sealing an ostomy pouch as set forth in claim 1, wherein said interior surface of said cap lip including a first aligning tab, a second aligning tab, a third aligning tab and a four aligning tab positioning adjacent to said cap flange;

said first aligning tab, said second aligning tab, said third aligning tab and said four aligning tab defining an equidistance orientation about said cap flange;

said first aligning tab, said second aligning tab, said third aligning tab and said four aligning tab and said cap flange defining a first aligning channel, a second aligning channel, a third aligning channel and a fourth aligning channel respectively for centering said cap flange relative to the pouch flange prior to said cap flange coupling within said pouch flange.

5. An ostomy closure for sealing an ostomy pouch as set forth in claim 1, wherein said exterior surface of said cap body including a cap adhesive layer for temporarily securing said cap body to the ostomy pouch.

6. An ostomy closure for sealing an ostomy pouch as set forth in claim 1, wherein said exterior surface of said cap body and said exterior surface of said cap lip including a cap adhesive layer for temporarily securing said cap body to the ostomy pouch.

7. An ostomy closure for sealing an ostomy pouch as set forth in claim 1, further including a flexible storage bag having an enclosure body extending between a bag base and a bag opening;

said enclosure body defining a bag chamber;

said bag base coupling to said exterior surface of said cap body for defining a cap and bag single unit;

said bag opening retracting over said flexible storage bag for defining an inverted flexible storage bag;

said bag opening retracting over said cap body for defining a bag cap enclosure;

said bag opening retracting over the ostomy pouch for defining a bag pouch enclosure; and

a bag closure engaging said enclosure body for encapsulating both said cap body and the ostomy pouch within said bag chamber.

8. An ostomy closure for sealing an ostomy pouch as set forth in claim 1, further including a flexible storage bag having an enclosure body extending between a bag base and a bag opening;

said enclosure body defining a bag chamber;

said bag base coupling to said exterior surface of said cap body for defining a cap and bag single unit;

said enclosure body compacting adjacent to said exterior surface of said cap body for defining a temporary compact cap and bag unit;

said enclosure body expanding from said exterior surface of said cap body for defining a deployed cap and bag unit;

said bag opening retracting over said flexible storage bag for defining an inverted flexible storage bag;

said bag opening retracting over said cap body for defining a bag cap enclosure;

said bag opening retracting over the ostomy pouch for defining a bag pouch enclosure; and

a bag closure engaging said enclosure body for encapsulating both said cap body and the ostomy pouch within said bag chamber.

An ostomy closure for sealing an ostomy pouch after removal from an ostomy mounting plate, the ostomy mounting plate securing to an individual, a plate flange securing to the ostomy mounting plate, a plate locking member integral to the plate flange, a plate orifice positioning within the plate flange and traversing the ostomy mounting plate, the ostomy pouch having a first flexible layer coupling to a second flexible layer for defining an ostomy chamber, a pouch flange securing to the first flexible layer, a pouch locking member integral to the pouch flange, a pouch orifice positioning within the pouch flange and traversing the first flexible layer, the pouch flange engaging with the plate flange and the pouch locking member engaging with the plate locking member for conveying stool from the individual to the ostomy chamber, the pouch flange disengaging with the plate flange for dispose of the stool, the ostomy closure, comprising:

a cap flange defining a cap flange aperture;

a cap locking member integral to said cap flange;

a cap lip defining an interior surface and an exterior surface extending from said cap flange;

a flexible sheet defining an interior surface and an exterior surface;

said interior surface of said flexible sheet coupled to said cap flange for covering said cap flange aperture;

said cap flange coupling with the pouch flange for positioning said flexible sheet over the pouch orifice and defining a sealing closure;

said sealing closure maintaining the stool and the stool odor within the ostomy chamber;

said cap locking member engaging with the pouch locking member for defining a locking closure; and

said locking closure preventing inadvertent removal of said cap flange from the pouch flange.

10. An ostomy closure for sealing an ostomy pouch as set forth in claim 9, wherein said cap flange and said cap lip defining a unitary-one-piece unit constructed from injected molding process;

and

said cap flange and said flexible sheet coupled by a heat seal couple.

11. An ostomy closure for sealing an ostomy pouch as set forth in claim 9, wherein said interior surface of said cap lip including an aligning tab positioning adjacent to said cap flange;

and

said aligning tab and said cap flange defining an aligning channel there between for centering said cap flange relative to the pouch flange prior to said cap flange coupling within said pouch flange.

12. An ostomy closure for sealing an ostomy pouch as set forth in claim 9, wherein said interior surface of said cap lip including a first aligning tab, a second aligning tab, a third aligning tab and a four aligning tab positioning adjacent to said cap flange;

said first aligning tab, said second aligning tab, said third aligning tab and said four aligning tab defining a equidistance orientation about said cap flange;

said first aligning tab, said second aligning tab, said third aligning tab and said four aligning tab and said cap flange defining a first aligning channel, a second aligning channel, a third aligning channel and a fourth aligning channel respectively for centering said cap flange relative to the pouch flange prior to said cap flange coupling within said pouch flange.

13. An ostomy closure for sealing an ostomy pouch as set forth in claim 9, wherein said exterior surface of said flexible sheet including a cap adhesive layer for temporarily securing said flexible sheet and said cap flange to the ostomy pouch.

14. An ostomy closure for sealing an ostomy pouch as set forth in claim 9, further including a flexible storage bag having an enclosure body extending between a bag base and a bag opening;

said enclosure body defining a bag chamber;

said bag base coupling to said exterior surface of said flexible sheet defining a cap and bag single unit;

said bag opening retracting over said flexible storage bag for defining an inverted flexible storage bag;

said bag opening retracting over said cap flange for defining a bag cap enclosure;

said bag opening retracting over the ostomy pouch for defining a bag pouch enclosure; and

a bag closure engaging said enclosure body for encapsulating both said cap flange and the ostomy pouch within said bag chamber.

15. An ostomy closure for sealing an ostomy pouch as set forth in claim 9, further including a flexible storage bag having an enclosure body extending between a bag base and a bag opening;

said enclosure body defining a bag chamber;

said bag base coupling to said exterior surface of said flexible sheet for defining a cap and bag single unit;

said enclosure body compacting adjacent to said exterior surface of said flexible sheet for defining a temporary compact cap and bag unit;

said enclosure body expanding from said exterior surface of said flexible sheet for defining a deployed cap and bag unit;

said bag opening retracting over said flexible storage bag for defining an inverted flexible storage bag;

said bag opening retracting over said cap flange for defining a bag cap enclosure;

said bag opening retracting over the ostomy pouch for defining a bag pouch enclosure; and

a bag closure engaging said enclosure body for encapsulating both said cap flange and the ostomy pouch within said bag chamber.

16. A sheet of ostomy closures for sealing a plurality of ostomy pouches, the plurality of ostomy closures engaging with the plurality of ostomy pouches after removal from an ostomy mounting plate, the ostomy mounting plate securing to an individual, a plate flange securing to the ostomy mounting plate, a plate locking member integral to the plate flange, a plate orifice positioning within the plate flange and traversing the ostomy mounting plate, the ostomy pouch having a first flexible layer coupling to a second flexible layer for defining an ostomy chamber, a pouch flange securing to the first flexible layer, a pouch locking member integral to the pouch flange, a pouch orifice positioning within the pouch flange and traversing the first flexible layer, the pouch flange engaging with the plate flange and the pouch locking member engaging with the plate locking member for conveying stool from the individual to the ostomy chamber, the pouch flange disengaging with the plate flange for dispose of the stool, the sheet of ostomy closures, comprising:

a plurality of cap bodies defining an interior surface and an exterior surface extending to a peripheral edge;

a plurality of cap flanges coupling to said peripheral edge of said plurality of cap bodies and extending from said interior surface of said plurality of cap bodies;

a plurality of cap locking members integral to said plurality of cap flanges;

a plurality of cap lips defining an interior surface and an exterior surface extending from said plurality of cap flanges for manipulating said plurality of cap bodies and said plurality of cap flanges;

a perforated edge traversing said plurality of cap bodies for assisting in the separation of each of said plurality of cap bodies;

each of said plurality of cap flanges coupling with the pouch flange for positioning each of said plurality of cap bodies over the pouch orifice and defining a sealing closure;

said sealing closure maintaining the stool and the stool odor within the ostomy chamber;

each of said plurality of cap locking members engaging with the pouch locking member for defining a locking closure; and

said locking closure preventing inadvertent removal of said plurality of cap flanges from the pouch flange.

17. A sheet of ostomy closures for sealing a plurality of ostomy pouches as set forth in claim 16, wherein said exterior surface of said plurality of cap bodies including a cap adhesive layer for temporarily securing each of said plurality of cap bodies to the ostomy pouch.

18. A sheet of ostomy closures for sealing a plurality of ostomy pouches as set forth in claim 16, wherein said exterior surface of said plurality of cap bodies including a cap adhesive layer for temporarily securing each of said plurality of cap bodies to the ostomy pouch;

and

an adhesive backing sheet secured to said cap adhesive layer for protecting and preventing unwanted adhesion to said cap adhesive layer.

19. A sheet of ostomy closures for sealing a plurality of ostomy pouches as set forth in claim 16, wherein further including a plurality of flexible storage bags having an enclosure body extending between a bag base and a bag opening;

said enclosure body defining a bag chamber;

said bag base coupling to said exterior surface of said plurality of cap bodies for defining a plurality of cap body and bag single units;

said enclosure body compacting adjacent to said exterior surface of said plurality of cap bodies for defining a plurality of temporary compact cap and bag units;

said enclosure body expanding from said exterior surface of said plurality of cap bodies for defining a plurality of deployed cap and bag units;

said bag opening retracting over said plurality of flexible storage bags for defining a plurality of inverted flexible storage bags;

said bag opening retracting over said plurality of cap bodies for defining a plurality of bag cap enclosures;

said bag opening retracting over the ostomy pouch for defining a plurality of bag pouch enclosures; and

a plurality of bag closures engaging each said enclosure body for encapsulating both said plurality of cap bodies and each ostomy pouch within said bag chamber.

20. A method for utilizing an ostomy closure for sealing an ostomy pouch, the ostomy mounting plate securing to an individual, a plate flange securing to the ostomy mounting plate, a plate locking member integral to the plate flange, a plate flange orifice positioning within the plate flange and traversing the ostomy mounting plate, the ostomy pouch having a first flexible layer coupling to a second flexible layer for defining an ostomy chamber, a pouch flange securing to the first flexible layer, a pouch locking member integral to the pouch flange, a pouch flange orifice positioning within the pouch flange and traversing the first flexible layer, the pouch flange engaging with the plate flange and the pouch locking member engaging with the plate locking member for conveying stool from the individual to the ostomy chamber, the method comprising the steps of:

disengaging the pouch locking member from the plate locking member;

disengaging the pouch flange from the plate flange;

engaging a cap flange with the pouch flange for positioning a cap body over the pouch orifice and maintaining the stool and the stool odor within the ostomy chamber; and

engaging a cap locking member with the pouch locking member for preventing inadvertent removal of said cap flange from the pouch flange.

A method for utilizing an ostomy closure for sealing an ostomy pouch as set forth in claim 20, wherein the step of engaging a cap flange with the pouch flange further includes the step of positioning an aligning channel defined between an aligning tab integral to said cap body and adjacent to said cap flange relative to said cap flange for centering said cap flange relative to the pouch flange prior to said cap flange coupling within said pouch flange.

22. A method for utilizing an ostomy closure for sealing an ostomy pouch as set forth in claim 20, wherein the step of engaging a cap flange with the pouch flange further includes the step of removing said cap body from the ostomy pouch secured by a cap adhesive layer temporarily securing said cap body to the ostomy pouch.

23. A method for utilizing an ostomy closure for sealing an ostomy pouch as set forth in claim 20, further including the step of expanding a flexible storage bag coupled to said cap body;

retracting a bag opening of said flexible storage bag over said flexible storage bag;

retracting said bag opening over said cap flange;

retracting said bag opening over the over the ostomy pouch; and

sealing said flexible storage bag for encapsulating both said cap flange and the ostomy pouch within said bag chamber.
