Abstract

Particular embodiments of the present invention are related to a social network site with enhanced user interaction functionality. In particular implementations, a method includes accessing a list of contacts that are connected to an owner of a personal page of a social network; identifying one or more contact pairs from the list, wherein the contacts in each contact pair are not connected to each other; computing an affinity score for each identified contact pair; randomly selecting one or more of the contact pairs based on corresponding affinity scores; providing a friend connector user interface module to the owner of the personal page, wherein the friend connector user interface prompts the owner to invite the contacts of the selected contact pair to establish a connection association relative to the social network; and conditionally transmitting an invitation to the contacts of the contact pair based on one or more actions of the owner relative to the friend connector interface.

19. A method comprising:

receiving, at a computing device, a request from an editor to perform an action on a personal page of a social network;

accessing, via the computing device, permission information associated with an owner of the personal page;

accessing, via the computing device, relationship information between the owner and the editor;

determining, via the computing device, if the relationship information matches the permission information;

determining, via the computing device, if the action has been revoked based on the permission information; and

modifying, via the computing device, the personal page based on the action if the relationship information matches the permission information and the action has not been revoked by the owner.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein if the relationship information does not match the permission information, the request is denied.

21. The method of claim 19, wherein if the action has been revoked, the request is denied.

22. The method of claim 19, wherein the permission information comprises:

a listing of authorized editors that can view or edit the personal page; and

a listing of permitted actions each authorized editor is allowed to perform on the personal page.

23. The method of claim 22, wherein said determining if the relationship information matches the permission information comprises:

comparing profile information of the editor with the listing of authorized editors.

24. The method of claim 22, wherein said determination of the action comprises:

determining whether the action is identified within the listing of permitted actions for the editor.

25. The method of claim 19, wherein said determination if the action has been revoked is based upon a match between the relationship information and the permission information.

26. The method of claim 19, wherein the editor is the owner.

27. The method of claim 19, wherein the relationship information identifies the editor and the owner as a connected contact pair.

28. The method of claim 19, further comprising:

updating a data table that tracks said modification of the personal page based on the requested action by the editor, wherein said modification is visually displayed on the personal page after approval by the owner.

29. A computer-readable storage medium tangibly encoded with computer executable instructions, that when executed by a computing device, perform a method comprising:

receiving, at the computing device, a request from an editor to perform an action on a personal page of a social network;

accessing, via the computing device, permission information associated with an owner of the personal page;

accessing, via the computing device, relationship information between the owner and the editor;

determining, via the computing device, if the relationship information matches the permission information;

determining, via the computing device, if the action has been revoked based on the permission information; and

modifying, via the computing device, the personal page based on the action if the relationship information matches the permission information and the action has not been revoked by the owner.

30. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 29, further comprising:

denying the request if the relationship information does not match the permission information; and

denying the request if the action has been revoked.

31. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 29, wherein the permission information comprises:

a listing of authorized editors that can view or edit the personal page; and

a listing of permitted actions each authorized editor is allowed to perform on the personal page.

32. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 31, wherein said determining if the relationship information matches the permission information comprises:

comparing profile information of the editor with the listing of authorized editors.

33. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 31, wherein said determination of the action comprises:

determining whether the action is identified within the listing of permitted actions for the editor.

34. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 29, wherein said determination if the action has been revoked is based upon a match between the relationship information and the permission information.

35. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 29, further comprising:

updating a data table that tracks said modification of the personal page based on the requested action by the editor, wherein said modification is visually displayed on the personal page after approval by the owner.

36. A system comprising:

a plurality of processors;

a module executor, implemented by at least one processor of said plurality of processors, configured for;

receiving a request from an editor to perform an action on a personal page of a social network;

accessing permission information associated with an owner of the personal page;

accessing relationship information between the owner and the editor;

determining if the relationship information matches the permission information;

determining if the action has been revoked based on the permission information; and

modifying the personal page based on the action if the relationship information.

37. The system of claim 36, further comprising:

the module executor, implemented by at least one processor of said plurality, configured for;

denying the request if the relationship information does not match the permission information; and

denying the request if the action has been revoked.

38. The system of claim 36, wherein the permission information comprises:

a listing of authorized editors that can view or edit the personal page; and

a listing of permitted actions each authorized editor is allowed to perform on the personal page,

wherein said determining if the relationship information matches the permission information comprises;

comparing profile information of the editor with the listing of authorized editors; and

wherein said determination of the action comprises;

determining whether the action is identified within the listing of permitted actions for the editor.
