Abstract

A method comprising establishing a wireless link with at least one endpoint. The wireless link includes at least one connection. The method also includes receiving a mobility indication indicative of a rate of travel of the endpoint. The method further include dynamically selecting at least one parameter for the wireless link based on the received mobility indication.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

establishing a wireless link with at least one endpoint, the wireless link comprising at least one connection;

receiving a mobility indication indicative of a rate of travel of the endpoint; and

dynamically selecting at least one parameter for the wireless link based on the received mobility indication.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein selecting the at least one parameter for the wireless link comprises selecting a parameter from the group consisting of a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) scheme for the wireless link, a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) level for the wireless link, and a code-block size for segmenting frames sent via the wireless link.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein dynamically selecting at least one parameter comprises adjusting the selection during a lifetime of the wireless link.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein selecting the at least one parameter for the wireless link comprises adjusting at least one performance curve based on the mobility indication, wherein the at least one performance curve correlates at least one parameter of a wireless link with a detected signal to noise ratio.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the mobility indication comprises a selection of a range of rates of travel of the endpoint.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

determining an application profile associated with the wireless link; and

selecting at least one parameter for the wireless link based on the mobility indication and the determined application profile.

7. A method, comprising:

establishing a wireless link with at least one access station, the wireless link comprising at least one connection;

determining a mobility indicative of a rate of travel;

dynamically determining a recommendation for at least one parameter of the wireless link based on the determined mobility; and

transmitting the recommendation to the at least one access station.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein dynamically determining a recommendation comprises selecting a parameter from the group consisting of a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) scheme for the wireless link, and a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) level for the wireless link.

9. The method of claim 7, wherein dynamically determining a recommendation comprises changing the recommendation during a lifetime of the wireless link.

10. The method of claim 7, wherein dynamically determining a recommendation comprises adjusting at least one performance curve based on the mobility determination, wherein the at least one performance curve correlates at least one parameter of a wireless link with a detected signal to noise ratio.

11. The method of claim 7, further comprising:

determining an application profile associated with the wireless link; and

selecting at least one parameter for the wireless link based on the mobility and the determined application profile.

12. A system, comprising:

an interface configured to;

establish a wireless link with at least one endpoint, the wireless link comprising at least one connection; and

receive a mobility indication indicative of a rate of travel of the endpoint; and

a processor coupled to the interface and configured to dynamically select at least one parameter for the wireless link based on the received mobility indication.

The system of claim 12, wherein the processor configured to select the at least one parameter for the wireless link is further configured to select a parameter from the group consisting of a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) scheme for the wireless link, a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) level for the wireless link, and a code-block size for segmenting frames sent via the wireless link.

14. The system of claim 12, wherein the processor configured to dynamically select at least one parameter is further configured to adjust the selection during a lifetime of the wireless link.

15. The system of claim 12, wherein the processor configured to select the at least one parameter for the wireless link is further configured to adjust at least one performance curve based on the mobility indication, wherein the at least one performance curve correlates at least one parameter of a wireless link with a detected signal to noise ratio.

16. The system of claim 12, wherein the mobility indication comprises a selection of a range of rates of travel of the endpoint.

17. The system of claim 12, wherein the processor is further configured to:

determine an application profile associated with the wireless link; and

select at least one parameter for the wireless link based on the mobility indication and the determined application profile.

18. A system, comprising:

an interface configured to establish a wireless link with at least one access station, the wireless link comprising at least one connection; and

a processor coupled to the interface and configured to;

determine a mobility indicative of a rate of travel; and

dynamically determine a recommendation for at least one parameter of the wireless link based on the determined mobility; and

wherein the interface is further configured to transmit the recommendation to the at least one access station.

The system of claim 18, wherein the processor configured to dynamically determine a recommendation is further configured to select a parameter from the group consisting of a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) scheme for the wireless link, and a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) level for the wireless link.

20. The system of claim 18, wherein the processor configured to dynamically determine a recommendation is further configured to change the recommendation during a lifetime of the wireless link.

21. The system of claim 18, wherein the processor configured to dynamically determine a recommendation is further configured to adjust at least one performance curve based on the mobility determination, wherein the at least one performance curve correlates at least one parameter of a wireless link with a detected signal to noise ratio.

22. The system of claim 18, wherein the processor is further configured to:

determine an application profile associated with the wireless link; and

select at least one parameter for the wireless link based on the mobility and the determined application profile.

23. A tangible computer readable storage medium comprising executable instructions that when executed by a processor are configured to:

establish a wireless link with at least one endpoint, the wireless link comprising at least one connection;

receive a mobility indication indicative of a rate of travel of the endpoint; and

dynamically select at least one parameter for the wireless link based on the received mobility indication.

The medium of claim 23, wherein the instructions configured to select the at least one parameter for the wireless link are further configured to select a parameter from the group consisting of a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) scheme for the wireless link, a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) level for the wireless link, and a code-block size for segmenting frames sent via the wireless link.

25. The medium of claim 23, wherein the instructions configured to dynamically select at least one parameter are further configured to adjust the selection during a lifetime of the wireless link.

26. The medium of claim 23, wherein the instructions configured to select the at least one parameter for the wireless link are further configured to adjust at least one performance curve based on the mobility indication, wherein the at least one performance curve correlates at least one parameter of a wireless link with a detected signal to noise ratio.

27. The medium of claim 23, wherein the mobility indication comprises a selection of a range of rates of travel of the endpoint.

28. The medium of claim 23, wherein the instructions are configured further configured to:

determine an application profile associated with the wireless link; and

select at least one parameter for the wireless link based on the mobility indication and the determined application profile.

29. A tangible computer readable storage medium comprising executable instructions that when executed by a processor are configured to:

establishing a wireless link with at least one access station, the wireless link comprising at least one connection;

determining a mobility indicative of a rate of travel;

dynamically determining a recommendation for at least one parameter of the wireless link based on the determined mobility; and

transmitting the recommendation to the at least one access station.

The medium of claim 29, wherein the instructions configured to dynamically determine a recommendation are further configured to select a parameter from the group consisting of a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) scheme for the wireless link, and a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) level for the wireless link.

31. The medium of claim 29, wherein the instructions configured to dynamically determine a recommendation are further configured to change the recommendation during a lifetime of the wireless link.

32. The medium of claim 29, wherein the instructions configured to dynamically determine a recommendation are further configured to adjust at least one performance curve based on the mobility determination, wherein the at least one performance curve correlates at least one parameter of a wireless link with a detected signal to noise ratio.

33. The medium of claim 29, wherein the instructions are further configured to:

determine an application profile associated with the wireless link; and

select at least one parameter for the wireless link based on the mobility and the determined application profile.
