Abstract

Systems and methods described herein relate to a sleep diagnostic system including a mattress assembly, a plurality of sensors, data acquisition circuitry, an input device, a sleep processor, and a display device. The mattress assembly may have a sleeping surface, and the plurality of sensors may be disposed within the mattress assembly below the sleeping surface. The sensors are configured to measure at least one sleep condition and output data signals indicative of the sleep condition. The sleep processor receives signals from both the sensors and one or more other input devices, and determines a sleep characteristic based upon these received signals. The display device, which includes circuitry and a graphical user interface, receives the sleep characteristic from the sleep processor and displays it to the user.

Claims

1. A sleep diagnostic system, comprising:

a mattress assembly having a sleeping surface,

a plurality of sensors disposed within the mattress assembly and below the sleeping surface, configured to measure at least one sleep condition and output data signals indicative of the at least one sleep condition;

data acquisition circuitry in communication with at least one of the plurality of sensors for receiving the data signals;

an input device having circuitry and a graphical user interface for receiving one or more input signals from a user;

a sleep processor, in communication with the data acquisition circuitry and the input device, having circuitry for determining at least one sleep characteristic based at least in part on the received data signals indicative of the at least one sleep condition and the one or more input signals from the user; and

a display device, in communication with the sleep processor, having circuitry and a graphical user interface for displaying the at least one sleep characteristic to the user.

2. The sleep diagnostic system of claim 1, wherein the sleep processor is disposed within the mattress assembly.

3. The sleep diagnostic system of claim 1, wherein the input device is located within a mobile unit.

4. The sleep diagnostic system of claim 1, wherein the display device is located within a mobile unit.

5. The sleep diagnostic system of claim 4, further comprising a transmitter disposed within the mattress assembly in communication with the sleep processor and configured to transmit the at least one sleep characteristic to the mobile device.

6. The sleep diagnostic system of claim 1, wherein the data acquisition circuitry and the sleep processor are included within a mobile device.

7. The sleep diagnostic system of claim 6, further comprising a transmitter disposed within the mattress assembly and in communication with at least one of the plurality of sleep sensors for transmitting the data signals to the mobile device.

8. The sleep diagnostic system of claim 6, wherein the mobile device further comprises a location processor configured to determine the location of the user and communicate the location to the sleep processor.

9. The sleep diagnostic system of claim 8, wherein the mobile device further comprises a network interface for retrieving at least one of weather information, barometric information, sunrise time, and sundown time from a network based on the location of the user.

10. The sleep diagnostic system of claim 6, wherein the mobile device is configured to alert the user of a bed time based in part on the received data signals.

11. The sleep diagnostic system of claim 6, wherein the mobile device is configured to block incoming notifications when the sleep processor determines that the user is sleeping.

12. The sleep diagnostic system of claim 1, further comprising a decision processor in communication with the sleep processor for generating a recommendation for the user based on the at least one sleep characteristic.

13. The sleep diagnostic system of claim 12, wherein the decision processor is configured to generate the recommendation based in part on the user input.

14. The sleep diagnostic system of claim 1, wherein the sleep processor is configured to receive user input previously stored in a database.

15. The sleep diagnostic system of claim 1, further comprising a network interface for transmitting over a network at least one of data signals and a sleep characteristic to a third party.

16. The sleep diagnostic system of claim 15, wherein the third party sends at least one of a sleep characteristic or a recommendation to the network interface over the network.

17. The sleep diagnostic system of claim 15, wherein the third party is a healthcare service provider.

18. The sleep diagnostic system of claim 15, wherein the third party is a social networking website.

19. The sleep diagnostic system of claim 1, wherein the mattress assembly further comprises a removable cover in which at least one sleep sensor is disposed.

20. The sleep diagnostic system of claim 1, further comprising a database in communication with the sleep processor for storing at least one of sensor data, sleep characteristics, and recommendations.

21. The sleep diagnostic system of claim 20, wherein the sleep processor determines a sleep summary based on at least one of sensor data, sleep characteristics, and recommendations stored in the database over a period of time greater than 24 hours.

22. The sleep diagnostic system of claim 1, wherein the input from the user includes at least one of a user'"'"'s environment, previous activities, and health.

23. The sleep diagnostic system of claim 1, wherein at least one sleep sensor is configured to measure at least one of movement, pressure, weight, stress, strain, temperature, humidity, light, noise, heart rate, breathing, blood oxygenation, blood pressure, time in bed, and total time slept.

24. The sleep diagnostic system of claim 1, wherein the at least one sleep characteristic is one of a length of time in bed, a sleep start time, a sleep end time, a measurement of respiration, and a measurement of moving.

25. The sleep diagnostic system of claim 1, wherein at least one sleep sensor positioned near the head region of the mattress is configured for detecting breathing.

26. The sleep diagnostic system of claim 1, wherein at least one sleep sensor near the center of the mattress is configured for detecting weight.

27. The sleep diagnostic system of claim 1, wherein at least one sleep sensor near the foot region of the mattress is configured for detecting movement.

28. A sleep diagnostic method comprising:

receiving at an input device having circuitry and a graphical user interface one or more input signals from a user;

receiving at data acquisition circuitry data signals indicative of at least one sleep condition from at least one sleep sensor;

determining, at a sleep processor in communication with the data acquisition circuitry and the input device, at least one sleep characteristic based at least in part on the received data signals indicative of the at least one sleep condition and the one or more input signals from the user; and

displaying on a display device, in communication with the sleep processor, having circuitry and a graphical user interface the at least one sleep characteristic to the user.

29. The sleep diagnostic method of claim 28, further comprising determining by a location processor the location of the user and communicating the location to the sleep processor.

30. The sleep diagnostic method of claim 29, further comprising retrieving at the sleep processor at least one of weather information, barometric information, sunrise time, and sundown time from a network based on the location of the user.

31. The sleep diagnostic method of claim 28, further comprising alerting the user of a bed time based in part on the received data signals.

32. The sleep diagnostic method of claim 28, further comprising waking up the user at a time based in part on the received data signals.

33. The sleep diagnostic method of claim 28, further comprising blocking incoming notifications on a mobile device when the sleep processor identifies that the user is sleeping.

34. The sleep diagnostic method of claim 28, further comprising generating a recommendation a decision processor for the user based on the at least one sleep characteristic.

35. The sleep diagnostic method of claim 28, wherein the decision processor is configured to generate the recommendation based in part on the user input.

36. The sleep diagnostic method of claim 28, further comprising receiving at the sleep processor user input previously stored in a database.

37. The sleep diagnostic method of claim 28, further comprising transmitting over a network at least one of data signals and a sleep characteristic to a third party.

38. The sleep diagnostic method of claim 37, further comprising transmitting by the third party over a network at least one of a sleep characteristic or a recommendation.

39. The sleep diagnostic method of claim 37, wherein the third party is a healthcare service provider.

40. The sleep diagnostic method of claim 37, wherein the third party is a social networking website.

41. The sleep diagnostic method of claim 28, further comprising determining at the sleep processor a sleep summary from data collected over a period of time greater than 24 hours.

42. The sleep diagnostic method of claim 28, wherein the input from the user includes at least one of a user'"'"'s environment, previous activities, and health.

43. The sleep diagnostic method of claim 28, further comprising measuring by a sleep sensor at least one of movement, pressure, weight, stress, strain, temperature, humidity, light, noise, heart rate, breathing, blood oxygenation, blood pressure, time in bed, and total time slept.

44. The sleep diagnostic method of claim 28, wherein the at least one sleep characteristic is one of a length of time in bed, a sleep start time, a sleep end time, a measurement of respiration, and a measurement of moving.

45. A mattress cover for disposing over the sleeping surface of a mattress, comprising

at least one sleep sensor disposed therein configured to measure at least one sleep condition and output data signals indicative of the at least one sleep condition;

and

at least one wireless transmitter in communication with the at least one sleep sensor for transmitting the data signals to a sleep processor;

wherein the sleep processor is configured to receive data signals, determine at least one sleep characteristic based on the received data signals, and automatically generate and output a recommendation to the user based on the at least one sleep characteristic.

46. The mattress cover of claim 45, wherein the mattress cover further comprises a padding layer.

47. The mattress cover of claim 45, wherein the mattress cover is removable and transportable.

48. The mattress cover of claim 45, wherein the mattress cover further comprises a power source.

49. The mattress cover of claim 45, wherein the at least one sleep sensor is configured to measure at least one of movement, pressure, weight, stress, strain, temperature, humidity, light, noise, heart rate, breathing, blood oxygenation, blood pressure, time in bed, and total time slept.
