Abstract
Embodiments of the present invention are directed generally to autocompete functionality in messaging applications. The autocomplete functionality, for example, generates frequently and/or recently used distribution lists or groups, performs keyword searches to identify recipient identifiers, and provides convenient modification of existing distribution lists or groups.

10. A messaging method, comprising:

(a) receiving from a user, as part of completing an outgoing message, at least a part of a recipient identifier; (b) matching the at least part of an identifier with a plurality of single and/or multi-member group recipient identifiers to form a set of matching identifiers; (c) ordering the members of the set of matching identifiers using the occurrence and/or nonoccurrence of selected expressions in at least one of the subject and message text fields of the outgoing message; and (d) providing, to the user a listing of the matching identifiers in the ordering determined in step (c). - View Dependent Claims (11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 21)

13. A messaging method, comprising:

(a) receiving from a user, as part of completing an outgoing message, at least one keyword; (b) searching a collection of messages and/or stored representations thereof for occurrences of the at least one keyword to identify a matching set of messages and/or stored representations thereof; (c) determining, for the matching set, a corresponding set of recipient identifiers, each member in the recipient identifier set having one or more corresponding members in the matching set; (d) providing the members of the recipient identifier set to the user; and (e) when the user selects one of the provided members, populating automatically a message recipient field of the outgoing message. - View Dependent Claims (22)
