Abstract
The present invention provides systems and method for delivering information to a transmitting and receiving device. The device receives a notification alerting a user of the device that information is available to be obtained and, in some embodiments, providing a short description of the information. After receiving the notification at the device, the user can then use the device to obtain or otherwise act on the information at a time and at a place convenient to the user.

71. A method of interacting with a voice mail message using a cell phone comprising:

(a) displaying on the cell phone a list including a plurality voice mail messages available on a remote voice mail system; (b) operating a user interface on the cell phone to select one of the plurality of available voice mail messages; (c) transmitting a request from the cell phone to the remote voice mail system over a cellular network to retrieve the selected voice mail message; (d) receiving at the cell phone the selected voice mail messaged from the remote voice mail system; (e) storing at the cell phone the selected voice mail message; and (f) playing on the cell phone the selected voice mail message using a codec stored at the cell phone. - View Dependent Claims (72, 73, 74)

82. A method of commanding a remote messaging system from a cell phone, the cell phone having a user interface with which a user can input a command intended to be transmitted to the remote message system, comprising:

(a) receiving and storing at the cell phone a notification of an available message, the notification including a message identifier and an indication of the location of a system to be contacted to trigger retrieval of the message; (b) receiving at the cell phone at least one command on the user interface of the cell phone, the command to be performed on the available message by the remote message system; (c) determining if wireless service is available to the cell phone; (d) if wireless service is available to the cell phone, then transmitting the command and at least part of the notification from the cell phone to the remote message system using the wireless service; and (e) otherwise, saving the command until such time that it is determined that wireless service is available to the cell phone, and then automatically transmitting the command and at least part of the notification to the remote message system using the wireless service. - View Dependent Claims (83)
