Abstract

In one aspect, a system includes a transaction handler to process transactions, a data warehouse to store data recording the transactions, a portal configured to communicate with an online store, and at least one processor coupled with the data warehouse and the portal. In one example, after users of the online store express interest in items of the online store, a first subset of the items are purchased from the online store. The processor is configured to determine a second subset of the items purchased by the users but not from the online store. Data representing user activities in the online store, and data representing the first subset and the second subset are combined to generate a checkout funnel analysis result.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

tracking, by a computing device, user activities in an online store;

identifying, by the computing device, items of interest to users of the online store;

identifying, by the computing device, a first subset of the items, the first subset being purchased from the online store;

determining a second subset of the items, the second subset being purchased but not from the online store; and

generating, by the computing device, a checkout funnel analysis result based on data representing the user activities in the online store, and data representing the first subset and the second subset.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the determining of the second subset comprises:

identifying a portion of the items not in the first subset;

determining information identifying users who are interested in the portion of the items; and

querying a transaction handler for purchases related to the portion of the items and made by the users who are interested in the portion of the items.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the second subset are purchased offline.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the second subset are purchased in one or more retail stores.

5. The method of claim 3, wherein the online store and the one or more retail stores are operated by a same merchant.

6. The method of claim 2, wherein the second subset are purchased from one or more competitors of the online store.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the second subset are purchased from one or more offline competitors of the online store.

8. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

generating offers associated with the items, wherein the offers are redeemable via a transaction handler when payments for the items are processed by the transaction handler.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the transaction handler is configured to associate the payments with the user activities via the offers redeemed with the payments.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the offer comprises at least one of:

a discount, a statement credit, a gift, a reward, and cash back.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the items of interest to users of the online store are items in online shopping carts of the users.

12. The method of claim 11, further comprising:

determining identifiers of respective users interested in items in the second subset; and

transmitting the identifiers to a transaction handler to request the transaction handler to monitor purchases of items in the second subset by the respective users.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the transaction handler is configured to use authorization response messages to request purchase details in response to authorization requests for transactions associated with purchases by the respective users.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the transaction handler is configured to monitor transactions of the respective users for a predetermined period of time in response to the identifiers transmitted to the transaction handler.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the transaction handler is configured to compare purchase details received as responses to the authorization response messages and information about the items in the second subsets to identify payments for the items in the second subsets.

16. The method of claim 1, wherein the checkout funnel analysis result shows conversion from the user activities in the online store and purchase activities.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the purchase activities include offline purchases.

18. A tangible computer-readable storage medium storing instructions which, when executed on a computer, cause the computer to perform a method comprising:

tracking user activities in an online store, where users of the online store express interest in items presented by the online store, a first subset of the items being purchased from the online store;

determining a second subset of the items, the second subset being purchased but not from the online store; and

generating a checkout funnel analysis result based on data representing the user activities in the online store, and data representing the first subset and the second subset.

19. A computing apparatus, comprising:

a transaction handler to process transactions, each of the transactions being processed to make a payment from an issuer to an acquirer via the transaction handler in response to an account identifier of a customer, as issued by the issuer, being submitted by a merchant to the acquirer, the issuer to make the payment on behalf of the customer, the acquirer to receive the payment on behalf of the merchant;

a data warehouse to store data recording the transactions;

a portal configured to communicate with an online store, wherein users of the online store express interest in items of the online store, a first subset of the items being purchased from the online store; and

at least one processor coupled with the data warehouse and the portal;

wherein the at least one processor is configured to determine a second subset of the items based on the data recording the transactions, the second subset being purchased but not from the online store; and

wherein a checkout funnel analysis result is generated based on data representing user activities in the online store, and data representing the first subset and the second subset.

20. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein the portal is configured to generate the data representing user activities in the online store;

and the at least one processor is configured to generate the checkout funnel analysis.
