Abstract

Techniques are provided that allow users to collaborate in relationship to data views, application displays, applications or events. A user can type in a text view related to a specific view in an application display, and the information is shared with other users that take part in sharing that view. A user that expresses an interest in an event is notified about the event and has the capability to interact, in relation to the event, with other users (e.g. by text). The particular form of interaction (and sharing) can be selectively specified. This interaction is comparable to a dynamic bulletin board where the subject is event driven, and where a user can specify who are allowed to participate. In the case of an event interest(s), users specify their interest (e.g. in other user application events or system events) and the system automatically alerts them to the occurrence of the event.

Claims

1. One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform a method comprising steps of:

providing a computer-based service over a network to a set of users;

enabling each user, in the set of users, to interact with at least one application, from one or more applications that are associated with the computer-based service, through at least one application display from a plurality of application displays;

wherein the plurality of application displays are associated with the computer-based service;

wherein the plurality of application displays include a plurality of views;

monitoring, by the computer-based service, for occurrence of events from a plurality of events;

wherein each event, from the plurality of events, corresponds to at least one of;

a) interaction with at least one of the one or more applications, by at least one user from the set of users;

or

b) at least one information update to content of at least one view from the plurality of views;

in response, at least in part, to occurrence of a first event, of the plurality of events, that corresponds to an information update to content of a view from the plurality of views, sending a first alert to each user of a plurality of first users, from the set of users, about the first event, to cause display of the first alert in a respective application display, from the plurality of application displays, of each of the plurality of first users;

wherein the respective application display of each of the plurality of first users includes at least one other alert about a different event from the plurality of events;

wherein the first alert includes one or more links that provide access to one or more views that are associated with the first event;

wherein at least one link from the one or more links provides access to the view;

enabling each user, of the plurality of first users, to enter one or more comments in relation to the first alert and to share said one or more comments, among the plurality of first users, in relation to the first alert;

receiving, by the computer-based service, a comment, entered in a text entry interface that is related to the first alert, from a particular first user of the plurality of first users; and

causing display of the comment, in relation to the first alert, to each user from the plurality of first users.

2. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 1 wherein:

the respective application display of at least one user, of the plurality of first users, is associated with the computer-based service at least in that the respective application display of the at least one user, of the plurality of first users, displays content obtained from the computer-based service; and

said content obtained from the computer-based service includes the first alert and the at least one other alert.

3. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 1 wherein:

the content of the view is associated with a particular data set;

the particular data set includes a plurality of fields;

the method comprises enabling updates to one or more fields, from the plurality of fields, by authorized users from the set of users;

the particular data set is maintained in a database in the computer-based service; and

the first event corresponds to an update to at least one field from the one or more fields.

4. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 3 wherein the update to the at least one field is performed by a user.

5. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 3 wherein the particular data set corresponds to a transaction.

6. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 5 wherein said transaction is a transaction involving an item.

7. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 6 wherein said item is a financial instrument.

8. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 1 wherein at least one of the one or more links is a URL.

9. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 1 wherein:

within the respective application display of a user, from the plurality of first users, the at least one other alert is a plurality of other alerts;

a first other alert and a second other alert belong to the plurality of other alerts;

the first other alert is an alert about a second event, from the plurality of events, that corresponds to a second information update to content of the view; and

the second other alert is an alert about a third event, from the plurality of events, that corresponds to a third information update to content of a second view from the plurality of views.

The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 1 wherein the method comprises sending the first alert to at least one first user, of the plurality of first users, based on receiving from the least one first user an expression of interest in being notified about information updates to the content of the view.

11. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 10 wherein receiving the expression of interest comprises receiving a specification of interest in being notified about information updates to the content of the view.

12. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 1 wherein the method further comprises:

in response, at least in part, to occurrence of a second event, of the plurality of events, associated with interaction with an application, of the one or more applications, by a particular user of the set of users, sending a second alert to each user of a plurality of second users, from the set of users, about the second event, to cause display of the second alert in a respective application display, from the plurality of application displays, of each of the plurality of second users;

wherein the second alert includes one or more links for accessing that provide access to one or more views that are associated with the second event;

wherein the plurality of first users is different from the plurality of second users;

wherein the particular first user belongs to the plurality of second users;

receiving, by the computer-based service, a second comment, entered in a text entry interface that is related to the second alert, from the particular first user;

causing display of the second comment, in relation to the second alert, to each user from the plurality of second users;

wherein causing display of the comment includes causing the comment to be displayed, in relation to the first alert, in the respective application display of the particular first user; and

wherein causing display of the second comment includes causing the second comment to be displayed, in relation to the second alert, in the respective application display of the particular first user.

13. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 12 wherein the application is a financial application.

14. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 12 wherein the application is associated with the computer-based service at least in that the computer-based service enables the particular user, at least in part, to interact with at least a portion of content of the application.

15. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 14 wherein the application is provided by the computer-based service.

16. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 12 wherein the method comprises sending the second alert to at least one second user, of the plurality of second users, based on receiving from the least one second user a specification of interest in being notified about interactions of the particular user.

17. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 12 wherein:

the second event corresponds to input of a text, by the particular user, into a text entry interface that is related to content that is shared at least in part among the particular user and the plurality of second users;

the method comprises maintaining said shared content of the view by the computer-based service;

at least one of the one or more links included in the second alert provides access to said shared content;

the shared content includes one of;

content of a particular view from the plurality of views;

or

content from an application display from the plurality of application displays;

the method comprises maintaining said content of the view, by the computer-based service, in at least one database;

the information update corresponds to an update to database information, that corresponds to the content of the view, in the at least one database;

the view includes a table view; and

said updated database information corresponds to at least cell in the table view that was updated by the information update.

18. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 1 wherein the text entry interface is a text view.

19. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 12 wherein:

the second event corresponds to the particular user loading at least a portion of a file to the computer-based service.

20. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 19 wherein the second event corresponds to the particular user loading at least one table from the file.

21. A method of sharing information associated with events, comprising:

providing a computer-based service over a network to a set of users;

enabling each user, in the set of users, to interact with at least one application from one or more applications that are associated with the computer-based service through at least one application display from a plurality of application displays;

wherein the plurality of application displays are associated with the computer-based service;

wherein the plurality of application displays include a plurality of views;

monitoring, by the computer-based service, for occurrence of events from a plurality of events;

wherein each event, from the plurality of events, corresponds to at least one of;

a) interaction with at least one of the one or more applications, by at least one user from the set of users;

or

b) at least one information update to content of at least one view from the plurality of views;

in response, at least in part, to occurrence of a first event, of the plurality of events, that corresponds to an information update to content of a view from the plurality of views, sending a first alert to each user of a plurality of first users, from the set of users, about the first event, to cause display of the first alert in a respective application display, from the plurality of application displays, of each of the plurality of first users;

wherein the respective application display of each of the plurality of first users includes at least one other alert about a different event from the plurality of events;

wherein the first alert includes one or more links that provide access to one or more views that are associated with the first event;

wherein at least one link from the one or more links provides access to the view;

enabling each user, of the plurality of first users, to enter one or more comments in relation to the first alert and to share said one or more comments, among the plurality of first users, in relation to the first alert;

receiving, by the computer-based service, a comment, entered in a text entry interface that is related to the first alert, from a particular first user of the plurality of first users; and

causing display of the comment, in relation to the first alert, to each user from the plurality of first users.

22. The method of claim 21 wherein:

the content of the view is associated with a particular data set;

the particular data set includes a plurality of fields;

the method comprises enabling updates to one or more fields, from the plurality of fields, by authorized users from the set of users;

the particular data set is maintained in a database in the computer-based service; and

the first event corresponds to an update to at least one field from the one or more fields.

23. The method of claim 21 wherein sending the first alert to the plurality of first users includes sending the first alert to at least one first user, of the plurality of first users, based on receiving from the at least one first user an expression of interest in information updates to the content of the view.

24. The method of claim 21 further comprising:

in response, at least in part, to occurrence of a second event, of the plurality of events, associated with interaction with an application, of the one or more applications, by a particular user of the set of users, sending a second alert to each user of a plurality of second users, from the set of users, about the second event, to cause display of the second alert in a respective application display, from the plurality of application displays, of each of the plurality of second users;

wherein the second alert includes one or more links for accessing that provide access to one or more views that are associated with the second event;

wherein the plurality of first users is different from the plurality of second users;

wherein the particular first user belongs to the plurality of second users;

receiving, by the computer-based service, a second comment, entered in a text entry interface that is related to the second alert, from the particular first user;

causing display of the second comment, in relation to the second alert, to each user from the plurality of second users;

wherein causing display of the comment includes causing the comment to be displayed, in relation to the first alert, in the respective application display of the particular first user; and

wherein causing display of the second comment includes causing the second comment to be displayed, in relation to the second alert, in the respective application display of the particular first user.

25. The method of claim 24 wherein sending the second alert to the plurality of second users includes sending the second alert to at least one second user, of the plurality of second users, based on receiving from the least one second user a specification of interest in being notified about interactions of the particular user.

26. The method of claim 24 wherein:

the second event corresponds to input of a text, by the particular user, into a text entry interface that is related to content that is shared at least in part among the particular user and the plurality of second users;

the method comprises maintaining said shared content of the view by the computer-based service;

at least one of the one or more links included in the second alert provides access to said shared content;

the shared content includes one of;

content of a particular view from the plurality of views;

or

content from an application display from the plurality of application displays;

the method comprises maintaining said content of the view, by the computer-based service, in at least one database;

the information update corresponds to an update to database information, that corresponds to the content of the view, in the at least one database;

the view includes a table view; and

said updated database information corresponds to at least cell in the table view that was updated by the information update.

27. A system, comprising one or more processors, configured to execute instructions that cause the system to perform a method comprising steps of:

providing a computer-based service over a network to a set of users;

enabling each user, in the set of users, to interact with at least one application from one or more applications that are associated with the computer-based service through at least one application display from a plurality of application displays;

wherein the plurality of application displays are associated with the computer-based service;

wherein the plurality of application displays include a plurality of views;

monitoring, by the computer-based service, for occurrence of events from a plurality of events;

wherein each event, from the plurality of events, corresponds to at least one of;

a) interaction with at least one of the one or more applications, by at least one user from the set of users;

or

b) at least one information update to content of at least one view from the plurality of views;

in response, at least in part, to occurrence of a first event, of the plurality of events, that corresponds to an information update to content of a view from the plurality of views, sending a first alert to each user of a plurality of first users, from the set of users, about the first event, to cause display of the first alert in a respective application display, from the plurality of application displays, of each of the plurality of first users;

wherein the respective application display of each of the plurality of first users includes at least one other alert about a different event from the plurality of events;

wherein the first alert includes one or more links that provide access to one or more views that are associated with the first event;

wherein at least one link from the one or more links provides access to the view;

enabling each user, of the plurality of first users, to enter one or more comments in relation to the first alert and to share said one or more comments, among the plurality of first users, in relation to the first alert;

receiving, by the computer-based service, a comment, entered in a text entry interface that is related to the first alert, from a particular first user of the plurality of first users; and

causing display of the comment, in relation to the first alert, to each user from the plurality of first users.

28. The system of claim 27 wherein the system is configured to send the first alert to at least one first user, of the plurality of first users, based on receiving from the at least one first user a specification of interest in information updates to the content of the view.

29. One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform a method comprising steps of:

providing a computer-based service over a network to a set of users;

enabling each user, in the set of users, to interact with at least one application from one or more applications that are associated with the computer-based service through at least one application display from a plurality of application displays;

wherein the plurality of application displays are associated with the computer-based service;

wherein the plurality of application displays include a plurality of views;

monitoring, by the computer-based service, for occurrence of events from a plurality of events;

wherein each event, from the plurality of events, corresponds to at least one of;

a) interaction with at least one of the one or more applications, by at least one user from the set of users;

or

b) at least one information update to content of at least one view from the plurality of views;

in response, at least in part, to occurrence of a first event, of the plurality of events, that corresponds to an information update to content of a view from the plurality of views, sending a first alert to each user of a plurality of first users, from the set of users, about the first event, to cause display of the first alert in a respective application display, from the plurality of application displays, of each of the plurality of first users;

wherein the respective application display of each of the plurality of first users includes at least one other alert about a different event from the plurality of events;

wherein the first alert includes one or more links that provide access to one or more views that are associated with the first event;

wherein at least one link from the one or more links provides access to the view;

enabling each user, of the plurality of first users, to enter one or more comments in relation to the first alert and to share said one or more comments, among the plurality of first users, in relation to the first alert;

receiving, by the computer-based service, a comment, entered in a text entry interface that is related to the first alert, from a particular first user of the plurality of first users;

causing display of the comment, in relation to the first alert, to each user from the plurality of first users;

in response, at least in part, to occurrence of a second event, of the plurality of events, associated with interaction with an application, of the one or more applications, by a particular user of the set of users, sending a second alert to each user of a plurality of second users, from the set of users, about the second event, to cause display of the second alert in a respective application display, from the plurality of application displays, of each of the plurality of second users;

wherein the second alert includes one or more links that provide access to one or more views that are associated with the second event;

wherein the plurality of first users is different from the plurality of second users;

wherein the particular first user belongs to the plurality of second users;

receiving, by the computer-based service, a second comment, entered in a text entry interface that is related to the second alert, from the particular first user;

causing display of the second comment, in relation to the second alert, to each user from the plurality of second users;

wherein causing display of the comment includes causing the comment to be displayed, in relation to the first alert, in the respective application display of the particular first user;

wherein causing display of the second comment includes causing the second comment to be displayed, in relation to the second alert, in the respective application display of the particular first user;

wherein sending the first alert to the plurality of first users includes sending the first alert to the particular first user based on receiving from the particular first user a specification of interest in information updates to the content of the view; and

wherein sending the second alert to the plurality of second users includes sending the second alert to the particular first user based on receiving from the particular first user a specification of interest in being notified about interactions of the particular user.

30. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 29 wherein:

the second event corresponds to the particular user loading at least a portion of a file to the computer-based service;

at least one link from the one or more links provides access to the at least a portion of the file;

the content of the view is associated with a particular data set;

the particular data set includes a plurality of fields;

one or more fields from the plurality of fields are updateable by authorized users from the set of users;

the particular data set is maintained in a database in the computer-based service;

the particular data set corresponds to a transaction; and

the first event corresponds to updating of an update to at least one field from the one or more fields.
