Abstract

In accordance with embodiments, there are provided mechanisms and methods for associating a plurality of stored elements with a creation of a patch. These mechanisms and methods for associating a plurality of stored elements with a creation of a patch can enable improved patch development for multi-tenant on-demand database systems, improved patch flexibility, etc.

Claims

1. A computer program product embodied on a tangible computer readable medium, comprising:

computer code for identifying creation of a first version of code to be installed in a multi-tenant on-demand database system;

computer code for storing a plurality of elements associated with the creation of the first version of code;

computer code for identifying creation of a patch associated with the first version of code; and

computer code for associating the stored plurality of elements with the creation of the patch.

2. The computer program product of claim 1, wherein the code includes an application.

3. The computer program product of claim 1, wherein the computer program product is operable such that a first workspace is used to create the first version of the code.

4. The computer program product of claim 1, wherein the plurality of elements include one or more version artifacts.

5. The computer program product of claim 1, wherein the plurality of elements include one or more custom objects associated with the first version of code.

6. The computer program product of claim 1, wherein the plurality of elements include one or more elements of metadata.

7. The computer program product of claim 3, wherein the computer program product is operable such that the plurality of elements is extracted from the workspace used to create the first version of code.

8. The computer program product of claim 1, wherein the computer program product is operable such that the plurality of elements are stored using an application programming interface (API).

9. The computer program product of claim 1, wherein the computer program product is operable such that the plurality of elements is deployed into a blank workspace associated with the patch.

10. A method, comprising:

identifying creation of a first version of code to be installed in a multi-tenant on-demand database system;

storing a plurality of elements associated with the creation of the first version of code;

identifying creation of a patch associated with the first version of code; and

associating the stored plurality of elements with the creation of the patch.

11. An apparatus, comprising:

a processor for;

identifying creation of a first version of code to be installed in a multi-tenant on-demand database system;

storing a plurality of elements associated with the creation of the first version of code;

identifying creation of a patch associated with the first version of code; and

associating the stored plurality of elements with the creation of the patch.

12. A method for transmitting code, comprising:

transmitting code to identify creation of a first version of code to be installed in a multi-tenant on-demand database system;

transmitting code to store a plurality of elements associated with the creation of the first version of code;

transmitting code to identify creation of a patch associated with the first version of code; and

transmitting code to associate the stored plurality of elements with the creation of the patch.

13. A computer program product embodied on a tangible computer readable medium, comprising:

computer code for identifying creation of a first version of code to be installed within a multi-tenant on-demand database system;

computer code for identifying creation of a second version of the code to be installed within the multi-tenant on-demand database system; and

computer code for enabling creation of a patch associated with the first version of the code, after the creation of the second version of the code.

14. The computer program product of claim 13, wherein the computer program product is operable such that the first version of the code is created by a developer utilizing an instance of a workspace.

15. The computer program product of claim 14, wherein the computer program product is operable such that the second version of the code is created by the developer utilizing an instance of a workspace other than the instance of the workspace utilized to create the first version of the code.

16. The computer program product of claim 13, wherein the computer program product is operable such that enabling the creation of the patch includes extracting and storing one or more elements associated with the creation of the first version of code.

17. The computer program product of claim 16, wherein the computer program product is operable such that the one or more elements are associated with the creation of the patch.

18. The computer program product of claim 15, wherein the computer program product is operable such that the patch associated with the first version of the code branches off the first version of the code and does not branch off the second version of the code.

19. The computer program product of claim 18, wherein the computer program product is operable such that the first version of code is associated with a version number.

20. The computer program product of claim 19, wherein the computer program product is operable such that the patch is associated with an extension of the version number of the first version of code.
