Abstract

An apparatus and method for updating channel information in a mobile communication terminal supporting Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) are provided. The method includes sending a broadcasting information request to an Over The Air (OTA) server over a mobile communication network, receiving broadcasting information from the OTA server over the mobile communication network, and updating stored broadcasting information based on the received broadcasting information.

Claims

1. A method for updating broadcasting information in a mobile communication terminal supporting Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) reception, the method comprising:

sending a broadcasting information request to an Over The Air (OTA) server over a mobile communication network;

receiving broadcasting information from the OTA server over the mobile communication network; and

updating stored broadcasting information based on the received broadcasting information.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the broadcasting information comprises at least one of center frequency information of a channel and broadcast program information.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the broadcasting information received from the OTA server comprises broadcasting information mapped to a location of the terminal.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the location is determined in accordance with a location server.

5. The method of claim 3, wherein the location is determined in accordance with a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver.

6. A method for updating broadcasting information in a mobile communication terminal supporting Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) reception, the method comprising:

entering a certain region;

receiving information broadcast by a base station in the region; and

when the received broadcast information comprises broadcasting information, updating stored broadcasting information based on the received broadcasting information.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the broadcasting information comprises at least one of center frequency information of a channel and broadcast program information.

8. The method of claim 6, wherein the certain region comprises a region where a certain channel is determined to have a weak signal.

9. An apparatus for updating broadcasting information in a mobile communication terminal supporting Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) reception, the apparatus comprising:

a wireless communication unit for sending a broadcasting information request to an Over The Air (OTA) server over a mobile communication network, and for receiving broadcasting information from the OTA server over the mobile communication network; and

a storage unit for updating stored broadcasting information based on the received broadcasting information.

10. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the broadcasting information comprises at least one of center frequency information of a channel and broadcast program information.

11. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the broadcasting information received from the OTA server comprises broadcasting information mapped to a location of the terminal.

12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the location is determined in accordance with a location server.

13. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the location is determined in accordance with a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver.

14. An apparatus for updating broadcasting information in a mobile communication terminal supporting Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) reception, the apparatus comprising:

a wireless communication unit for, when detecting entry to a certain region, receiving information broadcast by a base station in the region; and

a storage unit for, when the received broadcast information comprises broadcasting information, updating stored broadcasting information based on the received broadcasting information.

15. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the broadcasting information comprises at least one of center frequency information of a channel and broadcast program information.

16. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the certain region comprises a region where a certain channel is determined to have a weak signal.
