1. A method for using metadata for multimedia content in a network-based editing system, the system comprising at least one remote media asset node (MAN) server computer associated with at least one client for editing a multimedia content (MMC), the at least one remote MAN having a server computer constructed and configured in electronic communication over a network to a global media hub (GMH) including a GMH server computer having a processor, a memory, and software operable thereon to control the processes that act on the MMC, the GMH operable for storing all metadata associated with the MMC, and the MAN operable for storing all MMC for editing by a client through a client user interface (UI), the method steps comprising:

  • (a) providing metadata at the GMH corresponding to a multiplicity of MMC units;

    (b) automatically transforming the metadata for the given MMC into a multiplicity of metadata subsets, including at least a primary metadata subset, and a second metadata subset, wherein the primary metadata subset and the second metadata subset are different, and are coupled to predetermined different user roles at the client;

    (c) receiving a request into the GMH via the network from a first user having a first role at a client; and

    (d) the GMH automatically transforming and grouping metadata into a role-based view of the metadata that is unique to the first user role.
