A steering system for a motor vehicle comprising a steering wheel, an upper steering shaft, a lower steering shaft and an electric drive, wherein the upper steering shaft is held pivot-mounted in a jacket unit and the electric drive can be directly or indirectly connected to a vehicle body, wherein at least one housing part and/or one holding part is/are manufactured from sheet metal implemented as a composite material, wherein the composite material has a first metal layer and a second metal layer, between which a layer is arranged made of a viscoelastic material or an elastomer.
