Abstract

A method for operating an image display apparatus is discussed. The method according to an embodiment includes displaying a plurality of card objects on a display, displaying an application menu including at least one application item on the display, and displaying a broadcast image or broadcast image-associated information on the display. Accordingly, it is possible to increase user convenience.

Claims

1. A method for operating an image display apparatus configured to receive a television broadcast from one of a landline, a satellite and another connection, the method comprising:

simultaneously displaying, on a display of the image display apparatus, three of a plurality of card objects, each card object being displayed in a corresponding predefined area of the display; and

changing information displayed on the display of the image display apparatus in response to a user input to one of the three simultaneously displayed card objects or in response to another user input.

2. The method of claim 1,

wherein a first of the three card objects is a broadcast image or broadcast image-associated information,

wherein a second of the three card objects is a content provider (CP) list, and

wherein a third of the three card objects is an application provision list.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

replacing at least one of the three card objects with another of the plurality of card objects so as to simultaneously display two of the three card objects along with the another of the plurality of card objects.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

scrolling thru the plurality of card objects so that at least one of the displayed card objects is removed from the display, and a corresponding at least one undisplayed card object is added to the display.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the step of scrolling includes horizontally scrolling thru the plurality of card objects.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

replacing the three simultaneously displayed card objects with a simultaneous display of two of the three simultaneously displayed card objects.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

replacing the three simultaneously displayed card objects with a display of only one of the three simultaneously displayed card objects.

8. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

replacing two of the three simultaneously displayed card objects with two other card objects of the plurality of card objects.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

expanding a size of one of the three simultaneously displayed card objects to overlap at least a portion of at least one of a remaining two simultaneously displayed card objects.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the plurality of card objects comprises:

a card object including a broadcast image or broadcast image-associated information;

a card object including a content provider (CP) list;

a card object including an application provision list;

a card object including a channel browser;

a card object including a time-based broadcast guide list;

a card object including a program reservation list or a program recording list;

a card object including a media list in the image display apparatus or in a device connected to the image display apparatus; and

a card object including a genre-based broadcast guide list.

11. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

displaying an application menu including a predetermined number of application items drawn from a plurality of application items.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein a first of the a predetermined number of application items is a user selected application item.

13. The method of claim 11, wherein the another user input is an input to one of the predetermined number of application items.

14. The method of claim 1,

wherein a first of the three simultaneously displayed card objects is a broadcast image or broadcast image-associated information, the method further comprising:

changing the broadcast image or the broadcast image-associated information in response to a user input to a second of the three card objects or a third of the three card objects.

15. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of changing information displayed on the display of the image display apparatus in response to a user input to one of the three simultaneously displayed card objects or to another user input comprises:

scrolling or panning within the one of the three simultaneously displayed card objects.

16. An image display apparatus configured to receive a television broadcast from one of a landline, a satellite and another connection, comprising:

a display unit;

a communication device;

a memory; and

a controller operatively connected to the display unit, the communication device and the memory, the controller programmed to;

simultaneously display, on a display of the image display apparatus, three of a plurality of card objects, each card object being displayed in a corresponding predefined area of the display, and

change information displayed on the display of the image display apparatus in response to a user input to one of the three simultaneously displayed card objects or in response to another user input.

17. The image display apparatus of claim 16,

wherein a first of the three card objects is a broadcast image or broadcast image-associated information,

wherein a second of the three card objects is a content provider (CP) list, and

wherein a third of the three card objects is an application provision list.

18. The image display apparatus of claim 16, wherein the controller is further programmed to display an application menu including a predetermined number of application items drawn from a plurality of application items.

19. The image display apparatus of claim 16, wherein a first of the a predetermined number of application items is a user selected application item,

wherein the another user input is an input to one of the predetermined number of application items.

20. A non-transitory computer readable medium including instructions configured to cause an image display apparatus configured to receive a television broadcast from one of a landline, a satellite and another connection to perform the following method:

simultaneously displaying, on a display of the image display apparatus, three of a plurality of card objects, each card object being displayed in a corresponding predefined area of the display; and

changing information displayed on the display of the image display apparatus in response to a user input to one of the three simultaneously displayed card objects or in response to another user input.
