Abstract

Architecture for playing back personal text-based messages such as email and voicemail over a vehicle-based media system. The user can use a cell phone that registers over a cellular network to an IMS (IP multimedia subsystem) to obtain an associated IP address. The personal messages are then converted into audio signals using a remote text-to-voice (TTV) converter and transmitted to the phone based on the IP address. The phone then transmits the audio signals to the vehicle media system for playback using an unlicensed wireless technology (e.g., Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, etc.). Other alternative embodiments include transmitting converted message directly to the media system, via a satellite channel, converting the messages via a TTV converter on the cell phone, and streaming the converted messages to the phone and/or the media system for playback.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method, for providing a converted message to a vehicle media system, comprising:

associating, at a tangible internet protocol multimedia system, an internet protocol address with a mobile communication device;

associating, at a text-to-voice converter, the internet protocol address with the mobile communication device;

converting, at the text-to-voice converter, a text message to a voice message; and

using the internet protocol address, transmitting the voice message to the mobile communication device for subsequent transmission to the vehicle media system.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, further comprising assigning, at the tangible Internet protocol multimedia system, the internet protocol address to the mobile communication device, wherein the internet protocol address is not associated with the mobile communication device prior to the assigning.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein transmitting the voice message to the mobile communication device, using the internet protocol address, is performed by the text-to-voice converter.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein transmitting the voice message to the mobile communication device, using the internet protocol address, is performed by the internet protocol multimedia system.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, further comprising receiving, at the tangible internet protocol multimedia system, a registration request from the mobile communication device, wherein associating the internet protocol address with the mobile communication device is performed in response to receiving the registration request from the mobile communication device.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 5, further comprising the tangible internet protocol multimedia system transmitting to the mobile communication device a confirmation of registration of the mobile communication device to the internet protocol multimedia system.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, further comprising the tangible internet protocol multimedia system submitting a registration request to the text-to-voice converter component with respect to the mobile communication device.

8. The computer-implemented method of claim 7, further comprising:

receiving, at the tangible internet protocol multimedia system, confirmation from the text-to-voice converter component of registration of the mobile communication device to the text-to-voice converter component, wherein registering the mobile communication device to the text-to-voice component includes the associating of the mobile communication device with the Internet protocol address at the text-to-voice component; and

transmitting, by the tangible internet protocol multimedia system, a confirmation to the mobile communication device of registration of the mobile communication device to the text-to-voice converter component.

9. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, further comprising subscribing the mobile communication device to the text-to-voice converter component.

10. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving a subscribe request from the mobile communication device for subscription of the mobile communication device to the text-to-voice converter component; and

transmitting a subscription notice to the mobile communication device confirming subscription of the mobile communication device to the text-to-voice converter component.

11. A system, for providing a converted message to a vehicle media system, comprising:

a tangible internet protocol multimedia subsystem configured to associate, at the internet protocol multimedia subsystem, an internet protocol address with a mobile communication device; and

a text-to-voice converter subsystem configured to;

associate, at the text-to-voice converter subsystem, the internet protocol address with the mobile communication device;

convert a text message to a voice message; and

transmit, using the internet protocol address, the voice message to the mobile communication device for subsequent transmission to the vehicle media system.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein:

the internet protocol multimedia subsystem is further configured to receive a registration request from the mobile communication device; and

the internet protocol multimedia subsystem, in being configured to associate the internet protocol address with the mobile communication device, at the Internet protocol multimedia subsystem, is configured to associate the internet protocol address with the mobile communication device in response to the internet protocol multimedia subsystem receiving the registration request.

13. The system of claim 12, wherein the internet protocol multimedia subsystem is further configured to transmit to the mobile communication device a confirmation of registration of the mobile communication device to the internet protocol multimedia subsystem.

14. The system of claim 11, wherein the internet protocol multimedia subsystem is further configured to submit a registration request to the text-to-voice converter subsystem with respect to the mobile communication device.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the internet protocol multimedia subsystem is further configured to:

receive confirmation from the text-to-voice converter subsystem of registration of the mobile communication device to the text-to-voice converter subsystem, wherein registering the mobile communication device to the text-to-voice converter subsystem includes the associating of the internet protocol address to the mobile communication device at the text-to-voice converter subsystem; and

transmit a confirmation to the mobile communication device of registration of the mobile communication device to the text-to-voice converter subsystem.

16. The system of claim 15, wherein the internet protocol multimedia subsystem is further configured to:

receive a subscribe request from the mobile communication device for subscription of the mobile communication device to the text-to-voice converter subsystem; and

transmit a subscription notice to the mobile communication device confirming subscription of the mobile communication device to the text-to-voice converter subsystem.

17. A system, for providing a converted message to a vehicle media system, comprising:

a text-to-voice converter subsystem configured to;

associate, at the text-to-voice converter subsystem, an internet protocol address with a mobile communication device;

convert a text message to a voice message, creating a converted message; and

transmit the converted message to a tangible internet protocol multimedia subsystem; and

the tangible internet protocol multimedia subsystem configured to;

associate, at the internet protocol multimedia subsystem, the internet protocol address with the mobile communication device;

receive the converted message from the text-to-voice converter subsystem; and

transmit, using the internet protocol address, the voice message to the mobile communication device for subsequent transmission to the vehicle media system.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein:

the internet protocol multimedia subsystem is further configured to receive a registration request from the mobile communication device; and

the internet protocol multimedia subsystem, in being configured to associate the internet protocol address with the mobile communication device, at the internet protocol multimedia subsystem, is configured to associate the internet protocol address with the mobile communication device in response to the internet protocol multimedia subsystem receiving the registration request.

19. The system of claim 17, wherein:

the internet protocol multimedia subsystem is further configured to submit a registration request to the text-to-voice converter subsystem with respect to the mobile communication device;

receive confirmation from the text-to-voice converter subsystem of registration of the mobile communication device to the text-to-voice converter subsystem, wherein the registration includes the associating of the mobile communication device with the internet protocol address at the text-to-voice converter subsystem; and

transmit a confirmation to the mobile communication device of registration of the mobile communication device to the text-to-voice converter subsystem.

20. The system of claim 19, wherein the internet protocol multimedia subsystem is further configured to:

receive a subscribe request from the mobile communication device for subscription of the mobile communication device to the text-to-voice converter subsystem; and

transmit a subscription notice to the mobile communication device confirming subscription of the mobile communication device to the text-to-voice converter subsystem.
