Abstract

Example systems and methods for facilitating access to stored content using a computer system comprising multiple non-alphanumeric buttons involve converting at least a portion of an identifier associated with the content to a code comprising a combination of one or more of the non-alphanumeric buttons. The code is stored along with access information for accessing the content and the access information is provided in response to receipt of the code.

Claims

1. A method for facilitating access to stored content using a computer system comprising multiple non-alphanumeric buttons, the method comprising using a programmed computer system to perform steps including:

converting at least a portion of an identifier associated with the content to a code comprising a combination of one or more of the non-alphanumeric buttons;

storing the code along with access information for accessing the stored content; and

providing the access information in response to receipt of the code.

2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the identifier comprises alphanumeric characters and the converting converts one or more of the characters to the code.

3. The method according to claim 2, wherein the converting converts a predetermined number of characters at the end of the identifier to the code.

4. The method according to claim 3, wherein the predetermined number of characters comprises ten.

5. The method according to claim 1, wherein the non-alphanumeric buttons include one or more portions of a cross-switch of the computer system.

6. The method according to claim 1, wherein the non-alphanumeric buttons include one or more shoulder buttons of the computer system.

7. The method according to claim 1, wherein the computer system is embodied as a hand-held video game system.

8. The method according to claim 1, wherein the access information comprises a uniform resource locator.

9. The method according to claim 1, wherein the access information comprises information for accessing information about the author of the content.

10. The method according to claim 1, wherein the access information comprises information for accessing the information about the category containing the content.

11. A computer-readable storage medium storing program instructions, which when executed, cause a computer to perform a method for facilitating access to stored content using a computer system comprising multiple non-alphanumeric buttons comprising:

converting at least a portion of an identifier associated with the content to a code comprising a combination of one or more of the non-alphanumeric buttons;

storing the code along with access information for accessing the stored content; and

providing the access information in response to receipt of the code.

12. The computer-readable storage medium according to claim 11, wherein the identifier comprises alphanumeric characters and the converting converts one or more of the characters to the code.

13. The computer-readable storage medium according to claim 11, wherein the converting converts a predetermined number of characters at the end of the identifier to the code.

14. The computer-readable storage medium according to claim 13, wherein the predetermined number of characters comprises ten.

15. The computer-readable storage medium according to claim 11, wherein the access information comprises a uniform resource locator.

16. The computer-readable storage medium according to claim 11, wherein the access information comprises information for accessing the information about the author of the content.

17. The computer-readable storage medium according to claim 11, wherein the access information comprises information for accessing the information about the category containing the content.

18. A hand-held video game system comprising:

a display screen;

a cross-key;

an arrangement of one or more buttons;

a processing system configured to receive a code input using one or both of the cross-key and the buttons of the button arrangement and, in response to receipt of access information for accessing stored content which corresponds to the code, using the access information to access and output the content.

19. The hand-held video game system according to claim 18, wherein the button arrangement comprises a cross-shaped arrangement of four buttons.

20. The hand-held video game system according to claim 18, wherein the cross-key is disposed adjacent a first lateral side of the display screen and the button arrangement is disposed adjacent to a second lateral side of the display screen.

21. The hand-held video game system according to claim 18, wherein the access information comprises a uniform resource locator.
