Abstract

Door fiber management for fiber optic housings, and related components and methods are disclosed. In one embodiment, a fiber optic housing is provided that comprises an enclosure defining at least one interior chamber configured to support fiber optic equipment. The fiber optic housing comprises at least one door attached to the enclosure and configured to seal off at least a portion of the at least one interior chamber when the door is closed. The fiber optic housing also comprises at least one fiber management component disposed in the at least one door. The door can be a front door, a rear door, both a front and rear door, or any other door attached or provided as part of the fiber optic housing. The fiber management component can be any type of fiber management device or component.

Claims

1. A fiber optic housing, comprising:

an enclosure defining at least one interior chamber configured to support fiber optic equipment;

at least one door attached to the enclosure and configured to seal off at least a portion of the at least one interior chamber when the door is closed against the enclosure; and

at least one fiber management component disposed in the at least one door.

2. The fiber optic housing of claim 1, wherein the at least one door is comprised of at least one of a front door attached to a front of the enclosure and a rear door attached to a rear of the enclosure.

3. The fiber optic housing of claim 1, wherein the at least one fiber management component is comprised of at least one slack storage component configured to retain slack in one or more optical fibers.

4. The fiber optic housing of claim 3, wherein the at least one slack storage component is disposed on a perimeter of the at least one door.

5. The fiber optic housing of claim 4, wherein the at least one slack storage component is comprised of a plurality of storage components disposed on the perimeter of the at least one door to retain slack in the one or more optical fibers in at least three sides of the at least one door.

6. The fiber optic housing of claim 4, wherein the at least one slack storage component is comprised of at least one retainer configured to retain slack in the one or more optical fibers disposed in the at least one door.

8. The fiber optic housing of claim 1, wherein the at least one fiber management component is comprised of at least one routing guide configured to route one or more optical fibers in the at least one door.

9. The fiber optic housing of claim 8, wherein the at least one routing guide is comprised of at least one routing clip.

10. The fiber optic housing of claim 8, wherein the at least one routing guide is attached to at least one pedestal disposed in the at least one door.

11. The fiber optic housing of claim 8, wherein the at least one routing guide is comprised of a plurality of routing clips attached to a pedestal disposed in the at least one door.

12. The fiber optic housing of claim 10, wherein the at least one pedestal disposed the at least one routing clip above the at least one door.

13. The fiber optic housing of claim 1, further comprising at least one strain relief bracket disposed in at least one edge of the at least one door to provide strain relief for one or more optical fibers routed in the at least one door.

14. The fiber optic housing of claim 1, wherein the at least one fiber management component is disposed in at least one base disposed in the at least one door.

15. The fiber optic housing of claim 14, wherein the at least one base is comprised of a plurality of bases disposed in a side-by-side arrangement in the at least one door.

16. The fiber optic housing of claim 14, wherein the at least one base is configured to be removable from the at least one door.

17. The fiber optic housing of claim 14, further comprising at least one attachment device disposed in the at least one base and configured to be received by at least one receiver disposed in the at least one door to disposed in the at least one base in the fiber optic housing, and configured to be removed from the at least one receiver to remove the at least one base from the fiber optic housing.

18. The fiber optic housing of claim 17, wherein the at least one attachment device is comprised of at least one fastener for fastening the at least one base to the at least one door.

19. The fiber optic housing of claim 16, further comprising at least one recessed area disposed on at least one perimeter of the at least one base configured to be located adjacent to at least one component disposed in the at least one door when the at least one base is disposed in the at least one door.

7. The fiber optic housing of claim 7, wherein the at least one retainer is comprised of a first member disposed in a first plane and attached to the at least one door and a second member attached to the first member in a second plane intersecting with the first plane to form a slack storage area within the at least one retainer.

20. A method of managing optical fibers disposed in a fiber optic housing, comprising:

providing an enclosure defining at least one interior chamber configured to support fiber optic equipment; and

managing at least one optical fiber in at least one fiber management component disposed in at least one door attached to the enclosure and configured to seal off at least a portion of the at least one interior chamber when the door is closed against the enclosure.

21. The method of claim 20, wherein managing the at least one optical fiber comprises retaining slack in the at least one optical fiber in the at least one fiber management component comprised of at least one slack storage component.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein the at least one slack storage component is disposed on a perimeter of the at least one door.

23. The method of claim 22, wherein the at least one slack storage component is comprised of a plurality of storage components disposed on the perimeter of the at least one door to retain slack in the at least one optical fiber in at least three sides of the at least one door.

24. The method of claim 22, wherein the at least one slack storage component is comprised of at least one retainer configured to retain slack in the at least one optical fiber disposed in the at least one door.

25. The method of claim 20, wherein managing the at least one optical fiber comprises routing at least a portion of the at least one optical fiber in the at least one fiber management component comprised of at least one routing guide.

26. The method of claim 25, wherein the at least one routing guide is comprised of at least one routing clip.

27. The method of claim 25, wherein the at least one routing guide is attached to at least one pedestal disposed in the at least one door.

28. The method of claim 25, wherein the at least one routing guide is comprised of a plurality of routing guides attached to a pedestal disposed in the at least one door.

29. The method of claim 20, wherein the at least one fiber management component is disposed in at least one base disposed in the at least one door.

30. The method of claim 29, further comprising attaching the at least one base to the at least one door.

31. The method of claim 29, further comprising disposing at least one recessed area disposed on at least one perimeter of the at least one base disposed adjacent to at least one component disposed in the at least one door when the at least one base is attached to the at least one door.

32. The method of claim 29, further comprising detaching the at least one base from the at least one door.
