1. An ambulatory medication on demand dispenser comprising:
- a sensor for receiving biometric information from a user;
a controller responsive to the biometric information for determining whether the user is an authorized user;
a memory component for storing prescribed medication dispensing information and actual medication dispensing information;
a communications device for communicating the actual medication dispensing information to a monitoring site; and
a continuous belt and a plurality of medication-carrying slots defined on an exterior-facing surface of the belt;
a dose opening defined in an exterior surface of the medication on demand dispenser; and
the controller for controlling the belt according to a prescribed dose administration schedule and after determining the user is an authorized user, the belt controllable to present a medication dose at the dose opening for removal by the user.

a medication component for carrying medication doses within slots formed in a movable belt spanning a distance between a first and a second spindle, the track movable to present a medication dose at a dose opening defined in the medication component; and an electronic component for permitting user access to medication doses only after a user has been identified as an authorized user and on a predetermined dosing schedule, responsive to which the electronic component controls the medication component to allow the user to manually move the belt to position a medication dose at the dose opening, thereby allowing user access to the medication dose present at the dose opening. - View Dependent Claims (18, 19)

20. A method for dispensing A method for dispensing a medication dose, comprising:

authenticating a person as a legitimate user of an ambulatory medication on demand dispenser; if the user is determined to be a legitimate user; controlling a continuous belt having a plurality of medication-carrying slots defined on an exterior-facing surface of the belt to present a medication at a dose opening defined in an exterior surface of the medication on demand dispenser after a minimum dosing interval has elapsed from presentation of the last dose.
