Abstract

Distributed mechanisms are provided for implementing a neurological sentiment tracking system to collect and analyze consumer and business sentiment. Neuro-response data as well as optional survey and interview data may be collected from subjects about personal finance expectations, anticipated hiring expectations, views on prospects for the economy in the short and long term, purchase expectations, etc. Neuro-response data collection mechanisms such as Electroencephalography (EEG) and/or facial emotion encoding can be used along with surveys and interviews to collect data from subjects in a variety of environments. Collected data may be aggregated to aid in economic forecasting and modeling. Data may be continuously collected to provide high temporal resolution. Analysis may also be performed to determine impacts of particular events on sentiment.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

obtaining neuro-response data including electroencephalography (EEG) data from a plurality of subjects exposed to economic sentiment stimulus, the EEG data collected using a plurality of electrodes;

filtering and analyzing the neuro-response data by using a processor;

generating an economic sentiment index using the neuro-response data.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the plurality of electrodes are dry EEG electrodes.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising obtaining economic survey data;

4. The method of claim 3, wherein generating the economic sentiment index comprises using the neuro-response data and the economic survey data.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the economic sentiment index is a consumer sentiment index.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the economic sentiment index is a producer sentiment index.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein neuro-response data is obtained before and after an economic event.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein analyzing the neuro-response data comprises determining measures of attention, retention, and emotion.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein economic sentiment stimulus includes an economic survey.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein economic sentiment stimulus includes a personal financial situation survey.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein economic sentiment stimulus includes purchase expectation queries.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein neuro-response data further comprises electrooculography (EOG) data.

13. A system, comprising:

a neuro-response data collection mechanisms configured to obtain neuro-response data including electroencephalography (EEG) data from a plurality of subjects exposed to economic sentiment stimulus, the EEG data collected using a plurality of electrodes;

a processor configured to filter and analyze the neuro-response data by using a processor;

wherein an an economic sentiment index is generated using the neuro-response data.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the plurality of electrodes are dry EEG electrodes.

15. The system of claim 13, further comprising obtaining economic survey data;

16. The system of claim 15, wherein generating the economic sentiment index comprises using the neuro-response data and the economic survey data.

17. The system of claim 13, wherein the economic sentiment index is a consumer sentiment index.

18. The system of claim 13, wherein the economic sentiment index is a producer sentiment index.

19. The system of claim 13, wherein neuro-response data is obtained before and after an economic event.

20. An apparatus, comprising:

means for obtaining neuro-response data including electroencephalography (EEG) data from a plurality of subjects exposed to economic sentiment stimulus, the EEG data collected using a plurality of electrodes;

means for filtering and analyzing the neuro-response data by using a processor;

means for generating an economic sentiment index using the neuro-response data.
