Abstract

A method and apparatus for receiving and transmitting signals in a wireless communication system are provided. The method of receiving signals includes configuring a system mode and receiving the signals according to the system mode, wherein the system mode is either a first system mode or a second system mode, when the system mode is the first system mode, the signals are transmitted through a maximum of N transmit antennas, and when the system mode is the second system mode, the signals are transmitted through a maximum of M (N<M) transmit antennas.

Claims

1. A method of a user equipment (UE) receiving signals in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

configuring a system mode; and

receiving the signals according to the system mode, wherein the system mode is either a first system mode or a second system mode,

when the system mode is the first system mode, the signals are transmitted through a maximum of N transmit antennas, and when the system mode is the second system mode, the signals are transmitted through a maximum of M (N<

M) transmit antennas.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the first system mode is a long term evolution (LTE) mode, and the second system mode is an LTE-Advanced (LET-A) mode.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising receiving a downlink (DL) grant, wherein the signals are received based on the DL grant.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein:

a first identifier (ID) or a second ID of the UE is masked to a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) of the DL grant,

when the first ID is masked to the CRC, the system mode is configured as the first system mode, and

when the second ID masked to the CRC, the system mode is configured as the second system mode.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising transmitting subframe information to indicate a subframe configured as the first system mode, wherein the system mode is configured based on the subframe information.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the subframe information is transmitted through a higher layer signaling.

7. The method of claim 5, wherein the subframe information is transmitted through a broadcasting physical downlink control channel (PDCCH).

8. The method of claim 1, wherein in a case in which a base station (BS) sends the signals using a semi-persistent scheduling (SPS) method, the system mode is configured as the first system mode.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein:

the system mode is configured according to a transmission scheme set for the UE, and

the transmission scheme is a scheme of a BS sending the signals to the UE.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the system mode is configured according to component carriers on which the signals are transmitted.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the system mode is semi-statically configured.

12. The method of claim 11, further comprising, when the system mode is configured as the first system mode:

feeding first back channel state information (CSI) for the first system mode; and

second CSI for the M transmit antennas.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein a feedback cycle of the first CSI and a feedback cycle of the second CSI are independently set.

14. A method of a UE transmitting signals in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

configuring a system mode; and

transmitting the signals according to the system mode, wherein the system mode is either a single antenna mode or a multiple antenna mode, and

the system mode is independently configured according to a transmission format of the signals.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the transmission format is any one of physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) transmission, physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) transmission, and sounding reference signal (SRS) transmission.

16. An apparatus for wireless communications, comprising:

a plurality of antennas; and

a processor coupled to the plurality of antennas and configured to configure a system mode and to transmit signals according to the system mode,

wherein the system mode is either a single antenna mode or a multiple antenna mode, and

the system mode is independently configured according to a format of the signals.
