Abstract

The Invention relates to a method for submitting and processing checks using an ATM, which comprises a reading unit in order to read in the image data of a check, using a web service, which is provided over a network, comprising the following steps:

• • capturing the image data of the check by means of the ATM using the reading unit;
  • transmitting the image data to the web service based on an open API (application programming interface) without resorting to the standard protocols of the ATMs in the field of payment transactions;
  • processing the image data by means of the web service so that the text data on the check are recognized;
  • posting the recognized data.

Claims

1. A method for depositing and processing checks using an ATM that has a reading unit to read in the image data of a check, using a web service which is provided over a network, comprising the following steps:

capturing the image data of the check by means of the ATM using the reading unit;

transmitting the image data to the web service based on an open API (Application Programming Interface) without resorting to the standard protocols of ATMs in the field of payment transactions;

processing the image data by means of the web service so that the text data on the check are recognized;

posting the recognized data.

2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the communication between the web service and the ATM takes place over a proxy that enables imaging to the API.

3. The method according to claim 1, wherein when the API is opened, version information is transmitted in order to determine that the correct web service is carried out.

4. The method according to claim 1, wherein the calls from the web service are based on RPC (Remote Procedure Calls).

5. The method according to claim 1, wherein a multiple data transmission is captured by unique message IDs.

6. The method according to claim 5, wherein the inquiries and the responses are saved in order to answer redundant inquiries and/or to resend said inquiries.

7. The method according to claim 1, wherein a dialog between web service and ATM takes place in which the user of the ATM is involved in order to confirm the data recognized on the check.

8. The method according to claim 1, wherein the data thus determined are immediately posted based on account information.

9. An ATM to receive and process checks comprising:

a reading unit to read in the image data of a check,

using means providing an open API that allows a connection to a web service that is provided over a network,

using a processor that is set up in such a manner that the image data are transmitted to the web service based on the open API (Application Programming Interface) without resorting to the standard protocols in the field of payment transactions, wherein the text data on the check are recognized by the web service in order to have said text data posted.

10. The ATM according to claim 9, wherein the communication between the web service and the ATM runs over a proxy that enables imaging to the API and is located on the ATM.

11. The ATM according to claim 9, wherein the processing unit is configured in such a manner that a multiple data transmission is captured by means of unique MessageIDs.

12. The ATM according to claim 9, wherein means are available that permit a dialog between web service and ATM in which the user of the ATM is involved in order to confirm the data recognized on the check.

13. A web service server for processing checks, the image information from said checks having been transmitted by an ATM, comprising:

a network connection to communicate with the ATM in order to acquire the image data;

a processing unit that provides a web service based on an open API (Application Programming Interface) without resorting to the standard protocols of ATMs in the field of financial transactions;

a unit to initiate posting of the data recognized.

14. The web service server according to claim 13, wherein means are available that examine transmitted version information when the API is opened to determine that the correct web service is performed.

15. The web service server according to claim 13, wherein means are available that capture a multiple data transmission by means of unique MessageIDs.

16. The web service server according to claim 15, wherein storage means are available to save the inquiries and responses, to be able to answer redundant inquiries and/or to resend said inquiries.
