Abstract

Techniques are provided for determining occurrence of an unintended video recording in a device. One or more features of a video recording are analyzed in the video recording device to determine whether at least a portion of the video recording is unintended. If one or more portions are determined to be unintended, one or more actions are initiated in the video recording device.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

in a device capable of recording video, recording a scene;

in the device, analyzing one or more features of a video recording of the scene to determine whether at least one portion of the video recording is unintended; and

in the device, initiating one or more actions based on whether the at least one portion is determined to be unintended.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein analyzing comprises analyzing image data for one or more individual frames of the video recording to determine whether the portion of the video recording has one or more characteristics indicative of an unintended recording.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein analyzing comprises analyzing one or more sound features to determine whether the portion of the video recording has one or more characteristics indicative of an unintended recording.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein analyzing comprises analyzing an orientation of the device during a period of time of the portion of the video recording to determine whether the portion of the video recording is an unintended recording.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising identifying the portion of the recording that is unintended based on one or more of a time code, frame number, byte location, or other indication of where the portion occurs within the video recording.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein initiating one or more actions comprises stopping recording such that the portion determined to be unintended is not stored into memory.

7. The method of claim 6, further comprising switching the device to a capturing mode that continues to capture video of the scene without storing the captured video into memory.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein initiating one or more actions comprises powering off the device.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein initiating one or more actions comprises deleting the portion of the video recording that is determined to be unintended.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein initiating one or more actions comprises storing the portion determined to be unintended in a file that is separate from a remaining portion of the video recording.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein initiating one or more actions comprises generating an alert to a user of an occurrence of an unintended recording.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein initiating one or more actions comprises presenting to a user the portion of the video recording determined to be unintended and presenting options for the user to initiate commands to delete the unintended portion, save a part of the unintended portion, or reclassify the unintended portion as intended.

13. An apparatus comprising:

a video capture unit that is configured to capture video of a scene;

a memory configured to store a video recording of the scene; and

a processor configured to analyze one or more features of the video recording of the scene and to determine whether at least one portion of the video recording is unintended.

14. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the processor is configured to analyze image data for one or more individual frames of the video recording to determine whether the portion of the video recording has one or more characteristics indicative of an unintended recording.

15. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the processor is configured to analyze one or more sound features to determine whether the portion of the video recording has one or more characteristics indicative of an unintended recording.

16. The method of claim 13, wherein the processor is configured to delete from the memory the portion of the video recording that is determined to be unintended.

17. The method of claim 13 wherein the processor is configured to generate an alert to a user of an occurrence of an unintended recording, wherein the alert is at least one of an audio alert and a visual alert.

18. A computer-readable memory medium storing instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to:

store data for a video recording of a scene in a memory;

analyze one or more features of the video recording of the scene to determine whether at least one portion of the video recording is unintended; and

initiate one or more actions in a device based on whether the at least one portion is determined to be unintended.

The computer-readable memory medium of claim 18, wherein the instructions that cause the processor to initiate one or more actions comprise instructions that cause the processor to identify the portion of the recording that is unintended based on one or more of a time code, frame number, byte location, or other indication of where the portion occurs within the video recording.

20. The computer-readable memory medium of claim 18, wherein the instructions that cause the processor to initiate one or more actions comprise instructions that cause the processor to store the portion determined to be unintended in a file that is separate from a remaining portion of the video recording.
